RE: Elizabeth Venable
I was able to get to the Venable and met with landowner. It is very overgrown with thick vines and dead trees on the ground. He has assured me he will get rid of the vines and the deadwood. I was able to dig around and find four fieldstone grave markers. He believes there is one more marked tombstone. I was able to locate enough of the rock fence to determine the actual size of the cemetery. After seeing this I suspect there are many more graves.

You're welcome, Janice. You should thank Cathy. She took the photos and emailed them to me. I simply posted them.

Are you descended from the Leathers family? I'm always happy to meet another cousin.

Best regards,

I tried to find a grave for you back in June 2012. I live in Childress Texas now and was wondering if the grave was here in Childress I could try and find it again, but don't know the name. If you have a request for Childress, Texas let me know and I will try and find it for you. Jan Collins

Such a surprise to me as well. I hope to get to do some more digging to find out who else might be there. Have you seen the name Israel anywhere in your research. At some point I will clean the stone and get a better picture.

Elizabeth Venable
A couple of years ago I was looking for her grave on what is now the Trammel farm but could never gain access to look. It was not located in the 1970's when our historical society documented all of our cemeteries. At least what they could find.

Just today a gentleman sent me a picture of a stone that appears to be her stone. It is in an undocumented cemetery. I plan to meet him next weekend and visit the area.

I will let you know something as soon as I can.

You're quite welcome, Janice! Note how George Brown's headstone is off its base and turned facing east. Interesting. Mind if I ask about the application you mentioned? -James

elijah huddleston
there could be a problem with getting a picture of his stone. dodge grove records indicate that
he is buried in Sec 1 Pottersfield.
potersfield was hit by the tri-state tornada in 1917 and most the stones are missing about 95%
gone. this is a very old section and the records of grave location for this section were destroyed also.
there is no record of mary catherine debord huddleston.
I will check to sse if a stone does exists for elijah once the snow melts its under 2 feet of snow right now.

Venable Family Cemetery
I am sorry to say there are no stones in this cemetery. It was only recently that we discovered what this cemetery was. In the late 1970's the local historical society did a survey of all the cemeteries in the county. At that time all they found was a fieldstone cemetery with no names whatsoever. Just recently after I had discussions with a Venable descendant (I think Jim Hutchinson)we have beliefs this fieldstone cemetery did include burials for the Venables. Are there any other items that could be the proof you need. I live in Shelbyville and am on the Shelby County Cemetery Preservation Board. I would be glad to do whatever I can.

Yes, Ardelia was Alice's aunt. What I have posted is correct.

The 1880 census for Winn Parish, LA shows Alice H. McIlwain (age 2 yrs) as the daughter of John T. McIlwain (age 30) and Amy E. McIlwain (age 25). His obituary named among his survivors his daughter "Mrs. Tiny McManus, Mathis, Texas". Alice Hazeltine McIlwain McManus's death certificate (posted on her memorial # 39611691) gives her full name, birth place (Louisiana) and names her parents as "J. L. McIlwain" (sic) and "Amy Martin". These are the parents I have her linked to.

Ardelia Haseltine McIlwain Durham's memorial is # 21319215. However, another contributor created it, so I can't add parent links. Her death certificate (per gives her birth place as Atlanta, Winn Parish, LA and names her parents as John McIlwain and "Carylon Edward". Her only surviving sibling was named as "Mrs. Marion Melton". This was Caroline Josephine "Dona" McIlwain Melton (# 11706574), whose memorial I created. I have Caroline linked to her parents, John Theophilus McIlwain (# 9252660 ) and Ellender Caroline Edwards McIlwain (# 9252695). THESE ARE THE PARENTS OF ARDELIA HASELTINE MCILWAIN DURHAM. She was named as John Theophilis McIlwain's daughter in his bio (added by yet another contributor).

I don't give up that easily! I've contacted the church to see what records they have and am waiting to hear from them. I also plan to revisit the cemetery in better sunlight, and may also check out a nearby Catholic cemetery where one of Lucy's children is buried. As for Benjamin, the one I photographed is Lucy's grandson as there are already family links in the memorial.

I just added the grave photos for Bejamin Hewitt. If you note the date, he can not be Lucy Hewitt's husband - most likely a son or even a grandson. I'll continue looking for Lucy though.

Hi - it's not true that if a photo already exists or a photo request has been filled, that no one can ever make another photo request for that memorial. I don't know where you have read that.

I have fulfilled photo requests on entries that have photos already, myself.

I am referring to a note you left for "Ronzoni" stating that what he did was "Bad" because now another photo could never be posted, because he posted one to the entry after a photo request had been made.

I would think that he was posting the best graphic he could find, not what you expected or wanted, but it wasn't "Bad" -- it was a volunteer trying to be useful to you and the site.

And it wouldn't have kept more photos from being added, unless so many photos were posted that there wasn't room without sponsorship. I also do a lot of photo requests. I would hope to get a thank you, not called "bad" and told that no one could ever post another photo there because of it!
