Edit Error for Schmidt.
Hey Orrin,

You are going to get a edit notice for Lenna Schmidt (Find A Grave 104401944). I was trying to link her to husband Clifford (Find A Grave 119639149), but I’m afraid that I messed up and linked her to herself. Find A Grave won’t let me correct my error, so I thought I should send you a note to let you know.

Thanks, Steve

RE: Thanks for the picture
Hey Orrin,

You are very welcome.

She is buried next to her parents (Joseph on the left, Lolah in the middle, and Bonnie on the right.) I see that you shot the photo of Joseph’s headstone. So, if you remember where that was, you know where Bonnie is buried.

I could have sworn that I sent you a note about the search for Louisa Ottman, but I see now that I never got it done.

I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to find Louisa because there is no record of her at: This list was generated in the 1980’s by people actually walking the cemetery and writing down the names they found there. I figured that if they didn’t find her ~30 years ago, the odds of me finding her today were remote.

But just incase, I went over to the Sycamore library and had a look at the official Elmwood records. Sure enough, Louisa was listed in a plot next to the road within about 50 feet of the cemetery’s east entrance. The reason there was no listing for Louisa at the illinoisgenweb site is because there is no family stone indicating last name, only stones with first names. There are stones on either side of Louisa’s that are made of the same material and in the same manner as Louisa’s with the names George, Charles, Mary, Russell, and Lida E.

Cheers! Steve

Question about parents
Hello. I was wondering if you are positive of the parents on memorial no. 25902063 Lorena wells. I have some Wells that I think are her parents. William H and Ida Rosaline (Palmer) Wells. No. 1327200401 and No. 132720401. Thank you for checking it out for me.

You posted a photo of grave stone for Rev. Harold Nilges. It is a joint marker with his sister. She just died today and I am making a page for her. May I post your photo to her page?
I'm not related, and not seeking to have this transferred to me.
Thank you.

RE: Thanks for your diligence...
You are welcome, Orrin. Sorry it did not pan out. Given no (known, written) records of Morses in this cemetery and that Isaac Morse was about ten years old, is it conceivable that he was buried in the other cemeteries where Morses predominated? Seems odd to have a child removed from parents and siblings. Let me know if I can track down another.

RE: Thanks for the pictures!!

You are so welcome. We photographed quite a bit of that cemetery when we were in that area in Sept. ( We live in Michigan) I have been working on the transcription right now, but try to put the photos up as well when I see the requests.

Francis Malloy
On Oct. 10, 2013, you questioned the contributor about a memorial for a Francis Malloy. The reason you haven't received a reply is that the contributor passed away in July. I've sent Peg's obituary to the findagrave office. Charlotte Briggs

Billings Merritt
Yes, I am interested in other connections to Billings. My connection to him is that his son Arthur Carleton Merritt married my first cousin twice removed Annie E. Penniman. Click on the links from Billings to find their memorials.

As far as I know, Billings never married anyone else, and another marriage would seem unlikely anyway, since he married Emily when he was only 22 and died young, leaving her as his widow. So any other marriage would have had to be before 1852.

Ezra Starr & Jane Brown Gregory
You took a gravestone photos for them some time ago ... and it looks to me like someone is claiming the photos as theirs on at these links: and

The more I look, the more photos it looks like he swiped from Find A Grave. He COULD have asked for permission (maybe), but he isn't showing photo credits.

Ezra and Jane are my 3rd great grandparents, BTW.

Was Ms. Hazen actually buried here? I knew her personally. Wonderful woman. I can ask the paper where she was buried. It could also be that she was buried there and no one got around to getting a headstone for her. I can ask the people who run the funeral home, all friends of mine. Linda

Thanks for adding the photo. I had been there for his mother's funeral in Feb and just getting ready to add my photo and saw what a fine photo you have. Mine has snow in it. Thanks for adding it to his memorial.

RE: Thanks....
You're very welcome. I just noticed on Alice Merritt's memorial page that her maiden name was Gardner and her parents are also buried in that cemetery. Perhaps the records for the plot location are listed under the name Gardner rather than Merritt, so I will check back with the town hall. Hope I can locate her for you.

Looking at relatives on and one of the hints came back "findagrave". You added a picture of Martha Aurner's grave stone. Are you related? or just adding pictures of stones?
