|sharon kenney||RE: father of lula belle lyford huff|
You may access the obit of her father J.W. Lyford in the Chariton Courier directly on the Library of Congress website "Chronicling America" by looking up that Chariton Courier issue date and page number. I did not copy it, just left the message for you where it was located when I saw you had family of his on Find A Grave, but I am not related to him. "Chronicling America" is the digitized collection of a large number of American newspapers and has quite an impressive list for missouri.

|Don Dixon||RE: Learh Dixon burial site|
I know where she is buried. I've been to the site -- walking through brush and knee-high grass & returning to my truck with pants and socks covered with ticks =).
Take route 129 north of Green City & Pennville into Putnam County, turn west on route F, then north on 230th St. (county gravel road) 60-75 yards on the right side of the road across ditch.
There are at least 7 burials, but only 4 stones are visible. The rest have either sunk in the ground or were wooden markers. Huet's stone has been replaced at some time and is in the best condition. I have a photo of Learh's stone, but the markings on it are so worn that it doesn't show in the picture - you have to get really close to read it. Also in the cemetery is Huet's first wife Hannah, along with his second wife Martha Ann. Daughter Caroline and her husband Henry Green.
Anything I can do to help, let me know.

|Don Dixon||Learh Dixon burial site|
The information listed on Learh is pretty much correct. However, I'm pretty sure her burial site is wrong.
Samuel & Learh were my great-great-great grandparents.
Their son William was my great-great grandfather.
After Samuel was killed in Ohio in 1835, Learh and her children eventually made it to southeastern Putnam County MO in the 1850's. I have copies of land deeds of adjoining parcels the sons obtained for themselves and their mother from the Federal government (Dept. of Interior web site). Learh, two of her children & their spouses, and Huet's first wife are buried in a small Dixon cemetery on part of that land.
I have photos of their stones that I can scan - if anyone is interested.

For J.W. (Joseph William) Lyford, father of Lula Belle Lyford Huff, there is an obit online in the Chariton Courier Aug. 27,1909 on page 1. I am not related, I am reading the whole year 1909 of the Chariton Courier looking for death info on my ggg grandmother (Katherine,Katie,Catherine ?) Catherine (Burns) Draper , wife of John Draper, died JAN? 1909, probably around Prairie Hill Chariton County Mo.

I enlarged the pic--looks pretty clearly like JH rather than JB. I live about 4 blocks from the cemetery, will try to get up there in the next couple days to look at it more closely. Clearly there is more info on that stone, if I can make it out.

Just to let you know that today's bio adds did not come thru many times, just singles! Thanks! It wasn't on either of our ends, but some gremlins playing around!

Thanks for the reply. It must be a glitch somewhere - I do copy and paste the bios into the memorials. Why I am getting duplicates is beyond me. Oh well, lets blame it on Mid - January! Have a great weekend and thanks for the info you have been finding!

|Megan Heyl||Suggestion on adding info to memorials|
Thank you for sending the funeral home records you have discovered. If possible, could you please go to the "edit" button and send the information thru there? For some reason (if you are already doing that) - I am getting double "notices" on these memorials where you would like me to add the info.
If you come across more, please try that and lets see if it cuts down on the notices and becomes an easy edit.
Thanks for the info!
Have a great weekend!

Are you related? If so, I'd be glad to transfer. I live near the cemetery and walked it a few years ago just for fun. Unlike some folks we've all run into on Find A Grave, I'd rather family be with family. A distant relation is better than no relation at all.

I'm curious where her given names came from. My records have "Anna May." Would appreciate any clues.

I checked his and wife's death certificates on line and they are listed as being buried at Mt Olivet. I may call back next week and see if they have the wife's info about where they are buried. Why they couldn't find Joe Jr I don't know.

The cited source lists 2 people in lot 138 - S.T. Lorey (no dates) and Anna Lorey (no dates).
The source is primarily based on gravestone inscriptions, but given that there are no dates, it is reasonably likely that names were taken from the Cemetery records.
I'll transfer to you so you can decide how to handle them.

Yeah, those Newspapers.com "teasers" are impossible to read. If you attempt to blow them up to readable size, all you get is a "come-on" to sign up for the website. And I don't use that site enough to pay the price! But I have a hardcopy of that article and, after the holidays when I have more time, I intend to mine that article for any information I haven't already captured. I did edit the one caption to include some information about the person who actually alerted the police to this tragedy so I will probably just delete that photo of the newspaper page from the photo line-up. But I would really like for a family member to submit or post a better photo of Jim. The yearbook pic is nice but . . . Tom

Thank you SO much, Joanne, for the transfer. I was running out of room trying to tell this poor fella's sad story via the photo captions! Now, I'll be able to tell a more coherent story. Thanks again, Tom

I noticed that age discrepancy as well and was surprised at how the newspaper people could have made such a blatant error. But I rechecked the article again just now, and that's exactly what it says. I think it's good you noted the error, on her page.

Ernest was born in Laclede County Mo. and died in Ellensburg Washington. He is buried in the IOOF cemetery, his son Ernest Edward Martin is also buried in the cemetery he was found in 2008 in Germany where he was killed in WW2. Think his daughter Margaret Rogers is also buried there.
