|charles bachman||Jonathan Bachman|
I am Charles R. Bachman, great-great grandson of Jonathan Bachman born 1825, and I wonder if you can help me clear up a discrepancy between my family's oral history and the written record.
My grandfather, Charles A. Bachman, told me (as did others in my family) that his grandfather Jonathan A. Bachman (married to Alice Darty) was from Hamburg, Germany, and got to the U.S. by deserting the German navy. However, I've just seen the picture and information on Jonathan Bachman on the Find a Grave site--and even though all the other information--birth and death dates, marriage, children (including my great-grandfather Ira Bachman, whom I knew as a child), his two terms of service in the Civil War (I have copies of his induction papers)--matches, it appears that he was actually from Tennessee, and his forebears had been in the U.S. for several generations. Did someone in the family--perhaps Johann Friedrich--desert the German navy to get here?

|Paul Rolfe||Donaldson photo requests|
I wanted to let you know, I visited the grave site of the Donaldson graves and visited with the cemetery office staff to confirm my results on these markers you requested. There are eight Donaldson graves all in a row there; however, only the graves of George and Anna in lot 289 are marked. The others are unmarked - they include Joseph (an infant) plus Chester and Lester (infant twins) in lot 291; Bessie and Frank in lot 292; and, Raymond (an infant) in lot 293. These graves are difficult to locate as you must either approach from Walnut Hill section 07 and enter thick woods that lead down a ten foot hill to an isolated area below or approach from St Joseph Cemetery (which adjoins Walnut Hill for a short distance). If you park in St. Joseph near the Walnut Hill section 07 that adjoins it, you will find an abandoned lane - not quite a road (on the east end of that adjoining area) that leads downhill to Green Valley (an abandoned cemetery below) and along the side of this road, perhaps halfway to Green Valley, you can see the marker for George and Anna and one more marker with a different surname. There are only wooded hillsides surrounding them - no other evidence of a cemetery. I will try to get photos and post them to show the location but we have had extensive rain so it may be a few days.

|Roger Straw||Lewis Billington|
Hi Shawn - I posted 2 photos today from Benicia City Cemetery showing the grave of Lewis V Billington. In your request, you added, "and Wife." There was no wife's gravestone there today, only empty space beside his grave. A little Ancestry.com research suggests that his wife was Ida Elnora Marinda Larsen. They married in 1911, and the 1920 census shows them together in Spring City, Sanpete, Utah. But the 1930 and 1940 census shows her as divorced, living in Spring City.

I have transferred this memorial to you. I am currently working on the cemetery list for Eldora Cemetery and only up to the H surnames. If you have any other family buried in this cemetery, please tell me and I will transfer them to you. I will be out of state and away from Find A Grave most of July-Aug.

|Harvey Pearson||RE: Kent Funeral Home|
I would assume that Ruschmeier Funeral Homes,now of Browning,Green City & Milan got ALL of the records of the former Kent Funeral Home including the area burial registers/records on 16 December,2010 when the sale became final for their purchase of Kent Funeral Home.You might check with them when you get down to the area later this Fall to verify that.

|Harvey Pearson||RE: Ester Scobee|
Kent Funeral Home is NO longer in business.It was bought by Ruschmeier Funeral Homes of Milan & Browning,Mo back around Christmas,2009 when Ronald & Jaci Kent retired if I remember correctly so there to my knowledge is NOT an individual that stays in the Office on a daily basis.They are only there when they have a funeral scheduled out of the Green City area.
The funeral home has both a website and Facebook page.

Can't say as I haven't done any research on him.
When the weather straightens up to my liking I'll see if I can get a better photo of the headstone as that one appears to have been taken on an extremely cloudy day.
