Elizabeth "Betty" Dainwood Steward - buried in Oklahoma City

You posted a nice image of Betty's 1978 newspaper obituary with her Find a Grave memorial #50189588. Is she a relative? She was the daughter of my great-great-aunt, and I'd love to fill in the blanks on the Dainwood-Steward side of the family. Please write me directly if you're able to share data.

Your caption with the obituary is:

"Elizabeth Dainwood Steward was the second wife of John Howard Steward of Bald Knob, White Co., AR."

Allanah Ticer
Melanie, We haven't been in touch in years. I have information on Allanah Ticer's maiden name and where the marriage record for Samuel and Allanah is located. Also, learned that Allanah is Samuel's second wife. My private email is: Look forward to hearing from you.

Jennie (Rogers) Campbell Lemaster
Hello Melanie
I want to tell you that you've done well with all your memorials and grave photos in and around Houston County, especially Rehobeth Cemetery. Have you ever come across a marker for Jennie Lemaster of Madrid who died Nov 20, 1953? Her obit states she is buried at Rehobeth. Thanks for your time.

Hugh Curlin Atkins
My name is Robin Atkins. I started working on my family tree as a retirement project starting with my father Hugh Thurman Atkins. I see your name attached to a lot of Atkins records so I'm hoping you can shed some light on a mystery that has me stumped. I and a cousin both have a picture labeled as Uncle Hugh Curlin Atkins, however, I cannot find a trace of him until he shows up as a 17 year old "nephew" in the home of John Richard Atkins in the 1900 Census. There are details of his adult life & death but nothing about who his parents are or where he was born. He goes by a number of nick names but I can't find a thing. Any information you may have or suggestions where to look next would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Amanda Hughes
Old Rehobeth Cemetery - Hughes
Hi Melanie...

I notice that the Old Rehobeth cemetery in Houston County, AL is on private land. I am visiting family in the area in the first week of October and would love to visit it if possible.

Can you help me with that? Who is the family that currently owns the land it's on? Would they be ok with someone taking a look?

Thank you in advance for any assistance you could give. I am hoping the William and Mary Hughes family you have listed are my husband's ancestors.

John Newton McCurdy Whitfield GA
Hello, Melanie! Another Melanie here -- a descendant of John Newton McCurdy. I'm curious. I have twice visited the graves of my John Newton McCurdy, his second wife Rebecca Casteel, his parents Stephen McCurdy & Delilah Wright, as well as several of his children by Rebecca Casteel.

These graves are not in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Cohutta -- as you have listed here. They are buried in the McCurdy Family Burial Ground on private land, owned at one time by Charlie Hooker and his family. His daughter now owns that land.

They are in Whitfield County, GA -- on Maddox Chapel Road NE in Dalton, GA.

I'm really confused by the entry here in Find A Grave and would love to chat with you about these graves.

I have photos of the gravestones. We were just there again two years ago with a number of the McCurdy clan who live there and care for the Burial Ground.

In fact, Charlie Hooker and his wife have passed away since my first visit to the burial ground, and they have established a family cemetery that links to the McCurdy Burial Ground.

Please contact me, if you would be so kind. I'm curious about this!!!!

God Bless!
Melanie B.

Marcus D. Lafayette Spriggs
Hi Melanie
Thank you so much for the job you do. I know it takes lots of time. Have a question regarding this memorial. There is a lovely picture on this you know who is in the picture? Marcus Spriggs mother is not listed and she is Louisa McCoy Spriggs 1796-1848. My husband is a direct descendant of the McCoy line. Marcus's grandfather was David McCoy 1742-1822 from Edinburgh, Scotland and his grandmother was Susan Cox McCoy 1776-1847.
Thank you in advance for your help!

I just wanted to tell you what a great job you've done on the Napper family. Darkes Napper-Smith is the 2nd great-grandmother of my friend, Jarrett Robinson. I've done a lot of work on his genealogy and appreciate your work. I understand how time consuming it is to do this work.

RE: Abigail Williams Turner #53753186
Hi Melanie,

I am confused. Is the name of Abigail's husband Robert C. Turner or Robert Fulton Turner? In the bio on her memorial it is Robert Fulton but in the quote from the History of the Big Bend it is Robert C. Turner.

The reason I am asking is I thought your request was to change his name to be Robert Fulton Turner throughout the bio, which I did. But when I linked her to the memorial you gave, the name on the memorial was R. C. Turner, the same as the photo of his marker you added.

Please clarify.

J. S. Smith
The birth and death dates on this memorial match perfectly to a John Smith I've been tracking.

His father was George Andrew Jackson Smith 1821-1851. The George I have had one wife -- Mary Jane Ledbetter 1826-1888.

This George Smith and his wife lived in Overton County Tennessee, where their son, John, was born.

I'd love to compare information/notes.

How do I leave a flower/note for someone listed on Find A Grave?
First, go to the record to which you wish to add flowers and/or a note. There will be a box on the right hand side that says "Leave flowers and a note for this person". Just click on that box and follow the steps. (Note: you must be registered as a member and logged in to be able to leave flowers and notes.) We want Find A Grave to remain a place of respect and remembrance, just like a real cemetery.
" Additionally, biographical information and obituaries should not be included in a virtual flower." Limit flowers to no more than one flower per memorial per day. [Top]

William Ellsberry Jenkins, Sr.
Hi! I hope this message finds you well. William Ellsberry Jenkins (1817 - 1902) was my 3rd Great Grandfather. My direct line is through his son James Langford Jenkins. I am looking for William's parents, as well as where James Langford is buried. I thought his name was James Langston, but my Great Aunt Inez, who is James' granddaughter, says his mane was James Langford. She is still living. He died in Chamblee Georgia on November 22, 1920. He is not currently listed on Find A Grave. I saw where you had asked about William's parents many years ago on a genealogy site, and very much hope you have found them. Thanks in advance, Carolyn Jenkins Cruz, Royston Georgia
