Elizabeth "Bitsy" (Gibson) Wagner & Chester Wagner
RE: Lillie Wagner Dobie - Memorial# 33670609
Thank you for correcting the cemetery of where my paternal great-aunt Lillie Josephine (nee Wagner) Dobie, to where she IS buried at the Wimberley Cemetery, on Old Kyle Road, in Wimberley, Hays County, Texas next to her husband, John Richard Dobie (1876-1949) who predeceased her.

Please note on her death record (posted on her Memorial# 33670609) she had been a resident for 4 years at the time of her death at Hillside Manor Rest Home in San Marcos, Hays County, Texas. Her usual and prior residence had been at her and her late husband's home on ____ River Road, in Wimberley, Hays County, Texas.

PLEASE Edit/Add to her Memorial# that her place of death was in San Marcos, Hays County, Texas. I tried to submit this location of her death myself, however, Find A Grave would not allow me to submit her place of death since I still have the "pending edit" open from advising you of the Correct Cemetery of where she and her husband are buried at the Wimberley Cemetery in Wimberley, Texas (NOT the Blanco Cemetery).

Thank you for correcting where she is buried and your work on Please add the location information of where she passed away.

James Chester Wagner
Great-nephew of Lillie Josephine (nee Wagner) Dobie

Richard Thomas Crowson
Hi Bill, The memorial page for Rev Richard Thomas Crowson says you were the creator. Unfortunately, although it says that he is buried in Poplar Flat Cemetery, Winston County Mississippi - a volunteer went to the cemetery to take a photo of the grave and was not able to find it. He talked to the caretakers there and they were not aware of such a grave. How/Where did you get the information about where Richard Thomas Crowson (son of William & Catherine) was buried? Thanks. Cat Metz

Mariann Laughlin

I noticed that you had Beasley Sr.'s death date as 1835 on the find a grave page. My documents say 1839 and that is what it says in Richard Prewitt's family book. I am wondering if you have something that I don't have or just made a typo. Please let me know if you have documented proof of other information about his death.

Bobby Dobbs
Julia Embrey Wagner
It's sad that you take upon yourself to pollute the internet with misinformation by listing Julia Wagner as being buried in the Wagner cemetery. The Wagner's did not even purchase the land where that cemetery sits until 3 years after Julia died. You simply add her to the cemetery and note "Did not find headstone" as though she is there and you just are not able to find the grave. Its nonsensical. It causes countless people to repeat and copy your mistake.

Nancy Isabell Jolly

Her maiden name was not Eskew, it was Guill. Records show that she was the daughter of Byrd Guill, and granddaughter of Alexander Eskew who became her guardian after Byrd Guill died. Her mother had been one of Alexander's daughters, who is never named in those records, but is believed to have been Mary Eskew. The records for this are recorded in the guardianship and probate records of Wilson County, Tennessee.

Newspaper article:The Vindicator Liberty CountyFounders of Dayton: Beasley Pruitt, HistoryBy Robert L. Schaadt

Feature Writer & ArchivistPosted: Wednesday, July 20, 2011 5:50pm

Beasley Pruitt was born in 1740 in Virginia, the son of Uriah and Elizabeth Pruitt. In 1767 Beasley was bound out to Thomas Townsend in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. In 1770 Beasley married Eleanor Humphreys in Virginia. They had seven children and moved to the Mississippi's Natchez District in 1783, receiving a Spanish Land Grant for 440 acres on Sandy Creek.

In 1790, Pruitt was a tobacco grower at Natchez and his family was listed in the 1792 Spanish Census of Sandy and Second Creek, District of Natchez lists. In 1803, after selling their acreage, the family moved again, this time to Rapides Parish, Louisiana. Eleanor died in 1805.

In 1808, Beasley married his second wife, Lucy Sims Rogers, a native of East Florida, born c1786. The 1810 Rapides Parish Census shows the family with three children and nine slaves. The children were Cynthia Riley, born 1812, Beasely Jr., born on 25 Dec 1816, and Edmond, born 1819.In 1824, at the age of eighty-four, Beasley Pruitt moved his family to the Atascosito District of Texas, settling land on the Trinity River.

The 1826 Atascosito District Census documents that Beasely and Lucy had their three children with them; Cynthia, Beasley Jr. and Edmond, aged 18, 10, and 7 years respectively. Jesse Pruitt, a son from his first marriage, with his wife Harriett and their four children lived on the next homestead. On 10 Apr 1830, Beasely Pruitt applied for his land grant to Commissioner General Jose Antonio Padilla, stating that he had emigrated in 1824 and was one of the individuals authorized to settle between the Trinity and the San Jacinto under an 1828 Mexican Government proclamation that legalized settlement in that area.Commission er Jose Francisco Madero on April 23, 1831 issued the title for one league of land.

On 2 May 1831, Beasley Pruitt received title to a town lot on Hidalgo Street (northeast corner of Austin and Trinity) in Liberty. His daughter Cynthia (Cinderella) Riley Pruitt received an adjacent lot.

By 1831, Beasley must have felt a bit mortal for he wrote and acknowledged his will on April 2nd at the age of ninety-one. The most interesting will starts: "In the name of almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit know I Beasley Prewitt a native of the County of Essex in the State of Virginia one of those of North America and actually established on the Trinity River District of Atascosito in the Department of Bexar which appertains to the Sovereign State of Coahuila and Texas of the Mexican Confederation, finding myself well and in good health and entire Judgment Memory and relation but fearing the uncertainty of the hour of my death for my advanced age I have thought proper to make my testament extra judicially for want of a Judge which I verify in the following manner.~".

His will was witnessed and acknowledged by J. Francisco Madero, Jose M. J. Carbajal, Antonio Arranaga, Jose Maria Felan, Jose Julian de la Garza, B. W. Hardin, John Faulk, Amos Green, and Wm. Hardin. In the will he names "executors in the first place Mr. George Orr in the second place Mr. Hugh B. Johnston and in the third place Mr. John Berry."Beasley Pruitt died at West Liberty, Liberty Co., Texas, in 1839.

He was ninety-nine years of age and survived by his wife, children and many other family members. The surname Pruitt is spelled many ways including Prewitt, Pruett and Prewitt. Part 2 on Beasley Pruitt will include more information on his will and descendants. This article is based on the book "Beasley Pruitt, his descendants" by Richard Pruitt,1940; research by Jane Matthews on the Pruitt and Munson Families, see; the web site on "The Dugat Family" found at compiled by J. C. Schreiber; Miriam Partlow, Liberty, Liberty County, and the Atascosito District (Austin: Pemberton, 1974); and the holdings of the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center, Liberty.

In Daughters of Republic of Texas, page 226, it says: Beasley Pruett, Jr., born in Rapides Parish, LA, in 1816, to Beasley Sr., and his second wife Lucy Sims Rodgers...(just confirms Beasley and Lucy)

Prewitt, Beasley (1740 - 1839) - male
b. 1740 in ,Goochland County,Virginia
d. 1839 in West Liberty,Liberty County,Texas
father: Prewitt, Uriah (1699 - )
mother: Unknown, Elizabeth (1699 - )

Beasley was in Natchez District, Mississippi, 1783. Lucy and family came to Texas in 1825, was on Mexican Census of 1826, Atascosita District (now Liberty County, Texas). He died in West Liberty (now Dayton), Liberty County, Texas.

He was a private in Capt Frank Hardkin'scompany of volunteers from Liberty County. He received a bounty warrent for 320 acres. Thos.(x) Dever and Free Green, Vitoria Co.,affirmed idenity.
