Delta, no need to be sorry I have been researching William J. Clift for a very long time and you are not the only Clift decendant to get a bit confused concerning Nancy. I would appreciate it very much if you do find out what her last name was before marriage and where she was buried! It seems strange that William J, Clift would be buried with his second wife and not his first. I do know they were married in 1799 but where I do not know but do have them living in Caswel County in 1800 with 1 child whom I think was Polly so I have to believe he met his first wife in North Carolina. I also, know Joseph Clift Willia,s father and my 5th GGrandfather died in Guilford County NC in 1790 but where buried I do not know. Delta I have a lot of Clift iformation so if you have any blanks that I can help you with please let me know. I will keep looking for whom Nancy might have been in the mean time, paul

Delta, thanks again for your responce but there is a concern that my & your William J. Clift being married to Nancy Brooks is not correct! William J Clift's brother James Clift had a son named William J, Clift which as our William's nephew. James Clift's son William J, Clift was married to a Nancy A Brooks and they were married in Soddy Ham TN. I believe somewhere there confusion between our William J. Clift and his nephew William J Clift who was married to a Nancy A Brooks. Please let me know your references because I have extensive research on our William J. Clift but have not found anything concering his first wife who was my 4th Ggrandmother. I also, found William and his first wife on the Caswell County NC census of 1800 with 1 child so I believe Polly was born in NC not TN, paul

Hi Delta, thanks for contacting me!
My 4th greatgrandfather was William J. Clift and this come from my mothers side of the family through my greatgrandmother Amanda Clift who was the daughter of Robert Newton Clift who was the son of Andrew Jackson Clift and the son of William J Clift! I have pictures of where William J Clift is buried in Crab Orchard Tennessee. I have been looking for who William J Clift's first wife and who she was, Her full Name before marriage, where she is buried. I know she died in 1819 giving birth to twins one of them who died with her. I would be so thankful to find out about William J Clift's first wife, my 4th greatgrandmother. Thank you so much Paul Cochran

Hello
I am sorry, but I was unable to find the marker for his grave. I am also having some computer and internet problems, so I hope that the mixed messages did not cause any problems.

Your welcome. They are not side by side. They are in the same row but about 9 graves apart. I have a map from the cemetery with the locations and names on it. I can mail it to you if you want it for your records. Contact me by e-mail and give me your address if you want it.
