RE: Carrie E. Bornecke
I just checked the memorial again and it says she died in 1919 but it should be she died in 1918.

Zelma Chase in Portland, Oregon
I added pics to Zelma's Find A Grave page. Her #= 98520727
If you want her I will be glad to transfer her page to you. I am not related in any way.
It is in an area where the sun just does not shine. By the time the sun gets up high enough to be over some trees it goes behind a bunch of other trees. I am pretty sure the sun hits this area in the summer when the sun is up higher in the sky. I just think pictures look a lot better in full sun but then I am rather particular about my pictures.

Would you have any information on Mary Ella Buckley that died 1917 in MO. She was the daughter of John and Nancy and I see you have them on Find A Grave.
Thanks so much.

RE: Ship
You are right, we can never be for sure about the records because there isn't enough information. Another match-up, though, I know the family talked about Joseph and his Uncle Silveiro (sp?) worked their way on the ships to come here. Uncle S. P. (as we called him) worked his way on the ships around the world when he was a very young man, so he was very well traveled. That is another match-up for this find I have on the Ellis Island record. Another match-up is my grandmother's passport was made when she was 21. So that is when she came over and she came shortly after Joseph did. I need to find my family Bible to be sure. I have the full names of everyone, and maybe I'm forgetting his middle name. That "Maria" for his middle name does not ring a bell with me. I've been thinking it was Joaquin, or somebody's name was Joaquin, anyway. The reason I don't have access to the Bible right now is our son returned home, and his "stuff" is blocking the area my genealogy is stored. When we get him moved out, I'll get it out to see what Grandma told us when she was still alive. I would love it if you could email me and we could continue this as things come to light. Thanks for all you do, Jeannie. I do appreciate it. The Joseph Maria you found... what is his birthdate? That would also help. Charlene

RE: Joseph Martins
According to my records Joseph came to the U. S. by Ellis Island records. Date of Arrival: October 12, 1921

I believe his mother's first name was Joaquina, but I'll have to check my records on that. This info I have is from my grandmother (Joseph's wife) Albertina. We were told by my grandmother his middle name is Joaquin. I believe - perhaps - he changed his name to Joe M. Martins out in California because just before they moved from Rhode Island he had been in jail for bootlegging, which Rhode Island hadn't ratified the Prohibition Act, but the Feds got him. In 1940 my grandparents were still married. It wasn't long, like maybe 10 years at the most, they divorced. My grandmother remarried a Martin (no "s") in the early 50's.

Joseph wasn't here in America as early as 1920. Have to remember there were multitudes of Martins in Rhode Island during that time. I'm having a hard time keeping things straight, too, because of similar names on top of the commonness of the name.

RE: Joseph Martins
Hello Jeannie,

My grandparents were living in Patterson, California in 1940. They had just moved from Providence, Rhode Island. They had been in Bristol, Rhode Island before that, where my father Amilcar (Mickey) Martins was born in 1925. I really appreciate the help. That name change was a bit of a shock for me. My father's siblings are named John Martins, and Mary Martins. My father was the oldest living child at that time.

Thanks, Charlene

Joseph Martins
Hello Jeannie,
Have been doing more research on my Martins line, and have come up with some interesting things. My grandfather, Joseph Martins, came to this country with the name Jose Joaquin Martins. However, by the time they moved to California and in the 1940 census, he went by the name Joe M. Martins. I had no idea about this, and was always told he went by the name Joseph Martins. Perhaps that was just his legal name. I don't think we knew his middle name until we found some records. I have no idea what the "M" stands for. Just another tidbit to find out.

Still looking for eldest son, Manuel Martins born around 1923, and died in infancy. Probably born in Bristol, Rhode Island, and passed away from pneumonia. This was the start of my grandfather's downfall - just knowing this in my heart.

Thanks again,

RE: Sylvanus Farnham @ Carquinez
Thank you and yes I take great comfort that he isn't in pain anymore. He passed at home with us taking care of him. Cancer is a horrible way to go....
And I have been asking him going on years now to make it hasn't been just a few months. I even tried to contact find a grave to see if there was anyway that they could help. But when I got no response from them either I just started making duplicates. Better in my book to have a duplicate with right info then one with wrong info. At least this way the people can ask why there are 2. I wish find a grave would make it so that others could add comments directly on the memorial...not change it just make the comments that others can read so if there is in correct info it can be put on memorial that way.
There are so many good people on here that make the effort to make sure the info is correct and not just trying to up their number of added memorials. I am thankful to each and everyone.
And yes the graveyard is very neglected. It's in the county but it belongs to the city...not many folks around anymore who have relatives in there/ or they just don't care cause its been too many generations. But there are still those who care and don't know where to start. I have met many a good person out there who were quick to say thank you for doing what we are doing. Vallejo has never been big on taking care of it's past/ historical people/houses/stuff. It's a shame but at least there are some that are caring.

Here's a good example of what I'm talking about check out in Carquinez Cem. The name of Grote Lillian. I think you will see why there are so many duplicates made on memorials that he put.

RE: Sylvanus Farnham @ Carquinez
Hello,I wanted to Thank You for letting me know about deleting the memorial you made and also to tell you the reason that there are duplicates in Carquinez Cem. is because someone named Scott added a bunch to the list and add wrong info. When sent a corrections they go ignored, even when a photo is posted of grave showing correct info. Tried contacting Find a Grave regarding this issue and rec'd no response. When I make a duplicate I send a correction to him saying that since his info is different if he corrects his I will remove mine otherwise I will assume it's 2 different people. after awhile of no response I just stopped sending corrections and started putting the right info in a duplicate. Seems the only ones that has any details to them are ones that he took interest in or that maybe is part of his family tree...not sure. But sad that someone would add so many memorials and not care to make sure that the info is correct. guess he just wanted to boost his memorials added numbers. And I am not the only one that has been adding correct duplicate's the only way to get the correct info on there when the other person doesn't respond. I even left him a public message back in April still nothing. We have been working the Carquinez Cem. to get all info we can corrected so all info we ask to be corrected is either from the grave, a family member, or city records that we have copies of.
Also wanted to let you know that my heart goes out to you...I just lost my Dad a little over a year ago to cancer. You will be on a rollercoaster for some time, but hang in there and know that he will always be with you in your heart!!!
Hope today is a good day for you!!!
