RE: Mattie and Joseph Baker
Hello,
I am sorry I didn't explain more about not being able to see the picture of the headstone. I have cataracts and cannot see as well as I'd like; I'd had problems for some number of months but wasn't sure about what was wrong (just thought I needed new glasses) until I "lost" my glasses and had to go in & have another exam for new glasses, a few months ago. That's when I found out about the cataracts -- was told to use a magnifying glass, enlarge print, etc. for now. I feel so old! Thank you for your wonderful photos that you contribute to Find A Grave. With All Sincerity,
Kathie L. Webb Blair, Portland, OR

Address of Zillah Cemeteries
Dear Bob and Nan
Can you put the address of both, the Zillah
German and the Zillah City Cemeteries so we
can tell one and the other?
This info needs to be placed in the screen

Thank you,

Hi Nan,

Thanks for letting me manage it. I am hard at work linking everyone together so the information is there for generations to come. I live in Pennsylvania and am collecting information for this woman's great-great grandparent's and their descendants.

Thanks again,
Cindy

RE: Wosoba 27522417
Hi Nan,
I know this seems confusing with Josephine & Otto on the same gravestone, but Josephine was Otto's mother. See the obits below from the Oxford Jct Mirror.

Otto Wosoba

OTTO WOSOBA, the son of Mrs. Josie Wosoba, who lives on the farm near this city, received his call from the Government for service requiring him to report for duty September 20th, 1917. He was sent to Camp Dodge, where he remained until November 25th, and was then transferred to Camp Pike, Ark. At the time of his being drafted he asked for deferred classification that he might finish harvesting his crops and complete some new buildings, which were being constructed on the farm. The reason for this request was due to the fact that his leaving at that time left the burden of the farm on his mother and sister. Action was not taken on this claim until in March 1918, and he was then sent home from Camp Pike. He was again called into the service April 25th, and with the contingent from this county, went to Camp Dodge, and two months later was transferred to Camp Travis, Texas. They remained here only two weeks and were then ordered to Camp Merritt, N. J. He departed overseas June 17th, remaining at Liverpool for a short time, where he celebrated the Fourth of July. He was a member of Co. D, 358 Inft., the same company of which Victor Shimanek, who was killed in action, was a member, and likewise his first encounter with the enemy was experienced on September 12. In a letter to relatives he stated that he had been "over the top" four times. The last letter received from him, dated October 17th, stated that they had been sent back of the lines for a rest. The company of which he was a member was again thrown into action in the drive against Sedan. As stated above he was taking care of the farm for his mother at the time he was called, and although he asked for deferred classification, did not complain when same was not granted. Later, when the draft board took action on the claim and sent him home, he begged to remain in camp as he knew that the work on the farm had been taken care of, and he liked the army life. He was born October 30th, 1893, and on that day this year reached his 25th birthday. A message was received by his mother Thursday, December 5th, stating that he had been severely wounded in action.

[NOTE: Coporal Otto Wosoba was seriously wounded while in action on November 10, 1918, and died the following day, November 11, an hour before the Armistice was signed. He was buried in France, but in 1921 his body was exhumed and moved to Mayflower Cemetery where he is buried with his mother. His obituaries give his birthdate as October 30, 1893. His gravestone says October 30, 1892.] Richard Harrison

SOURCE: Obits from Oxford Mirror
both from the Oxford Mirror, one in July 1919 and the other October 1921 when he was reburied here in OJ. His first obit says he was "seriously wounded while in action on Nov 10, the day before the armistice was signed" and died the following day. There is also a letter that was published that was sent to his mother, telling of his death-- very sad. He was born in OJ Oct 30, 1893 according to that obit. The second "obit" or article tells that he was first buried in France, but was disinterred and sent here by request-- this one says born Oct 30, 1893 and died Nov 11. So-- the story is partially right, he did die on Armistice Day, but from injuries the day before.

Josephine Souhrada was married to Frank Wosoba in 1892 as per Frank's obit listed below:
SOURCE: Oxford Jct Mirror...Thursday, October 15, 1925...Number 49
Frank Wosoba passed away at his home in this city Saturday morning at 8:30 o'clock, following an illness of several years duration, during which time medical aid was of no avail, and while not bedfast with the exception of the past three weeks, has slowly failed in health until death relieved his suffering.
Frank Wosoba, son of Frank and Elizabeth Wosoba, was bon on a farm near this city, in June 1864, and passed away Saturday, October 10th, at the age of 62 years.
He was united in marriage to Miss Josephine Souhrada in 1892, to which union were born three children, two of which, Mrs. Blanche Willimack and Mrs. M. Elizabeth Vanicek, survive. The son, Otto, died in France, having given his life in the World War. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and one ..., Miss Mary Wosoba. Three brothers and two sisters have proceded him in death.
He left the farm several years ago and came to this city, the greater part of which time he has lived by himself. His illness dates back six years, however, he was not confined to his bed until about three weeks ago.
Funeral services were held from his home Monday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by M. Podolak, and interment was made in the Mayflower cemetery.
Hope this helps with this family.
Regards,
Sharon

RE: Everett Airhart # 31925072

Everett was my step grandfather. He never had children of his own. My Dad, Len Flick (Airhart), his step-son, was raised by him. As soon as Dad was old enough he changed his last name to Airhart to honor the man who didn't live long enough to adopt him, but who he honored as a father.

Dad didn't feel up to a trip over the Cascades to the cemetery but was very pleased when my sister (living in Boston) found a local scout troop and arranged for the headstone and grave site to receive some extra TLC.

I posted the information about Everett at Dad's request once we found your site. Since then he has also passed - October 13, 2012. You may use my
contact address.

RE: Martn Kennedy
Although I am related to a lot of Kennedys in Dubuque County, I have not found a connection to Martin (270080850) as of yet. However, I am related to Helen (McDermott) McAleer (26967258). However, if you want to transfer Martin as well as Helen, I don't mind managing another memorial. Either way is fine with me.
Thanks,
Joy
