Very neat. Well I certainly thank you for taking it, as the Confederacy and Louisiana is your interest you may care to know that his father moved there from Mississippi, supposedly fearing a new railroad would ruin his cotton business. His father's business partner in MS, P S Catchings, signed the Mississippi Ordinance of Secession.

I descend through his aunt, Kate Aby who married A J Turner. It was ever so neat to see a picture of him, is there a story to how you got it?

Yours,
Andrew

RE: Cypress Grove cemetery
Thank you for getting back to me regarding the Confederate Soldiers & Cypress Grove.

NOLA Girl has added them all (see messages she sent to me). Send her a big "Thanks" because the listing I sent her was inclusive of Fla, Ga, Ala, Miss, La, Tx, Ark, Tenn, and Carolinas (think she said 190+ names)with death dates for most of them.

Not finding listed at Cypress Grove or in Lousiana. I hope you will take a look at this -- decision - to add these soldiers to "Cypress Grove" vs not adding. Would appreciate your input from newspaper article (partial) of Dec 1863:

After a description of her visit to the place, she says: "The Confederate graves were beautifully decorated, not one neglected. They presented a glorious contrast to the graves of the Federals, some of which were covered with weeds that made it almost impossible to see the head-boards. Where the Union ladies were we should like to know. In the center of the Confederate burial ground (which is in Cypress Grove) there is a cross about seven feet high, covered with black velvet, and spangled with gold. In golden letters inscribed on the front of the cross, are these words, "To our Southern brothers, by the ladies of New Orleans."

Louisianians. J. E. Lawrence, co B, 28th regiment, died April 24, 1863, at the St. James hospital; A P Salerovich, co D, 28th, died May 3, 1863, at the St. James hospital; Con Andrews, co C, 28th, died April 26th, 1863, at St. James hospital; J. S. O'Neil, co F, died May 8, 1863, at St. James hospital; Peter Clofat, 2d Louisiana cavalry, died May 11, 1863, at St. James hospital; Joseph Campbell, co A, 28th, died May 25, 1863, at St. James hospital; S. Mitchum, co. F, Louisiana cavalry, died May 17, 1863, at St. James hospital; A. W. Milner, co D, 28th, died May 19, 1863, at James hospital; E. L. Goodwin, co B, 28th, died June 7, 1863, at St. James hospital, John K. Dean, co A, 12th, died August 2, 1863; Theo Daruson, 3d, died July 29, 1863; Sergt F Lano, co A, 23d Louisiana artillery, died at St Louis hospital; Thos J. Stanley, co G, 18th, died June 10, 1863, at St. James hospital; Wm C Irwin, co D, 1st, died at St. Louis hospital; Jas Carl, co G, 3d, died at St. Louis hospital; F H Kuhn, co D, Miles' legion, died August 13, 1863; E. O. Grate, (of Newton county, Mississippi,) co D, Miles' legion, died August 13, 1863.

Simeon Odom
Hi. You gave me information on my ancestor, Augustin Bordelon, who was killed at the Battle of Mansfield. Do you by any chance have a record of a Simeon Odom who was killed there? Supposedly died in May of wounds received during the battle. Thank you!

RE: Augustin Bordelon
Thank you so much for the information! You have been very helpful! And I am glad to have a copy of the original record of his death. Yes, I believe my Augustin had a brother named Celestin and they lived next door to each other. I will have to see if I can find where his marker is in Avoyelles and maybe that will lead my to Augustin's. My Augustin also seems to have been dead by 1870. His wife died in 1867 and in 1870 his daughter is living with another family, so I am pretty sure this is him. The age definitely matches up. Thank you again for the information! Definitely gives me some leads!

Thank you so much for the photo of the record! Does that mean that his grave is unmarked and unknown? I think he might be my 5th great grandfather, but I am unsure.

RE: Drozin Duhon
Mr. Lord,

Thank you for the information. I live in Texas, but will be going to Maurice, La at the end of this week to look at the cemetery. If I can locate the grave I will let you know as well as provide a photo of the plot.

I wish I had a photo of Drozin and am desperatly hoping to find one and will forward to you as well if I get it. He is my (3rd) great grandfather and I as well as my great grandfather are named after him.

Yes, please forward me any information that you can get me on Drozin's Civil War records.

This is the Drozin I am looking for:
Drozin Duhon, b. 1836 (La) - d. 1906 (La). most probably born and died in the Lafayette area. Wife Emeline, son Albert born 1861.

As for the other Duhons I am sure they are all related. There is a Dosite Duhon buried in Maurice that served the Confederate. There are no dates on the stone as I understand. I know that Drozin's father is Dosite and his brother is Dosite. I feel like the soldier is most likely his brother.

Do Civil War records include date and place of birth?? Am I reading the information correctly, was he a prisoner of war at some point??? Are there POW records???

Looking forward to hearing from you!!

My family are descended from Giles Chapman - what about you?

I went to Franklin Cemetery to find this marker. I went to the area I perceived to be Sec. 3A, Row 1. There were, indeed, O'Niell (this was how the name was spelled on markers) graves. There were three very old graves with no names or any info at all. I took pics of those and surrounding graves if you'd like me to email them to you. The Franklin Garden Club maintains the cemetery and they may have more information for you. Sorry I couldn't help more...Diane
