Gen. M.D. Vance
I have a photo of Gen. Vance that was sent to me by the University of Arkansas. His uniform is on display there.

Also, on the Gettysburg memorial web site is a movie of Gen. Vance at the dedication of the Civil War memorial, shaking hands with other soldiers and President Roosevelt.

He is my 2 times great uncle on my Mothers side (Vance). I have very little information about him other than what you have provided.

If you wish the photo that I have of him, please contact me:

Thank you
Paul Brimer

William Batchelder Greene
I very much appreciate the work you have done and owe to you my only copy of the military portrait of Rev. Greene. My only purpose in adding a portrait of him as an older man was to draw attention to the important work he did following his military career. Greene's entire life deserves remembrance. He was a brave soldier, a caring minister, and a brilliant economist (although his theories are to this day not followed).

I'm impressed with your pictures.
May I copy your picture of Benjamin Franklin Eshleman to my Genealogical tree?
Thanks for your consideration. Jim

Kady Brownell
You may have had this question/comment before, but I just read the bio for Kady Brownell and it states her father was Col. George Southwell. This designation is also sited on the North Burial Ground website where Kady is buried with her husband by C. Morgan Grefe Ph.D, Executive Director, Rhode Island Historical Society.

Lisa Dodd
Hi cousin
I know very little of my family history on both sides of my tree so it is of great honor to introduce myself as a cousin. I am William Henry Dodd's daughter Lisa DeAnnna Dodd. I just began this quest to discover who I am and where I came from a few days ago after conversations with my father. All of my grandparents passed before I could get to know who they were on both sides of my tree so it has always been a lingering question. Any information that you can give to me will be a cherished gift. Please feel free to call me at 901 598 4669. Thank you.

Mary Barnett Poppenheim
Hello Leon,

Just curious, if it's not too much trouble, which book did you find the photo of Mary Barnett Poppenheim in?

Have you ever read 'Southern Women at Vassar:
The Poppenheim Family Letters, 18821916?

Interesting anecdotes.

PS: I appreciate all the hard work you've done on portraiture. Many people don't seem to understand photo order significance.

You are most welcome, but I certainly don't deserve any credit! Just doing what volunteers do, and accidentally landed in the right place. Happy to offer something to enhance an already lovely memorial. --H

Greene Information
Thanks for the good information, Leon! I'll check into it. By the way, I read in your bio about the issue of someone posting (and inadvertently moving) photos on memorials. You're probably aware of this, but if you're the manager of a memorial, you can change the order of photos that are posted on that memorial (even if you didn't post them). I love the photos you've posted! Thx again, Barb

Hi - Love this memorial and thank you for posting it and for the work you do on findagrave. I've been trying to figure out if he's related to my William Greene. How did you find him? Are there burial records? Thx! Barb

RE: Alan A. Cook, Woodlawn Cem., Canadaiga, NY
He is quite the same person. I have "Alan A. Cook of the Lafayette
Flying Corps, a son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert G. Cook of Canandaigua
has returned from service in the French Aviation Section. For his
gallantry, he was awarded the French was cross with palms" Robt
G. Cook, b. 1861, is buried on this lot with no mention of his being
an MD. The article is from the Clifton Springs Press, Thursday, Feb
27, 1919 available from newspapers

You are very welcome. He won a scholarship to Phillips Andover

next four years. Thank you for the compliment
