True. That's why this is "Find a grave," not "Fix a grave" (cemetery records). *grin*

Yes, I think John is in Vine Lake too. Its a HUGE cemetery!
As for me, I worked at the Captain Bartlett in the early 80s. My dad was the manager there, and got us (my brother & a few college friends) great summer jobs! I loved Alaska! I even looked into getting certified in elementary ed, but that ment a trip to Juneau....not an easy access city. So I wasn't willing to spend my money on a giant maybe. So I stayed in Mass.

I do not think John Leslie Preston is buried at Pine
Grove Cemetery in Norfolk, Mass. That cemetery is for unclaimed prisoners from MCI Walpole (now calle Cedar Junction) and Norfolk prisons. I believe he would have been buried in Medfield, Mass at Vine Lake Cemetery.
(PS...I used to work at the Capt. Bartlett Inn!)

Wow! 2 in just 1906. Odd. Well mine was definitely a George Arthur, so it's not George M. Thank you, Jo

Yes, Trish, that's the one. Interesting! I'm going to do more searching into it. I wonder if someone has a wrong date, or if there was another George Lincoln?
Would you be sure to erase that one message I sent with my email address -- title "George again". I don't want it on here for long. I get mass spam when it's too available. Signing off for the evening.
Thanks for searching it for me.

thanks for all the work Trish! Very exciting to see all of it. I just spoke to a family member who said they remember seeing something about him in their Mom's stuff long ago. Who knows what all we'll find. Thank you! (and I appreciate the transfer too). Jo

Sure Trish. If he's no relation I'll take over his memorial page. Thank you. I stated he is the son of George F. and Abbie, but I'm mixing generations in my statement. He's the 3rd child of the 4 Illinois born, of the George F. and Ella Pettingill Lincoln family. Sorry.
Is the yellow flag for a mining accident death a standard for cemeteries? . . . or a local thing in Fairbanks? I'm so glad you made that note about it or I wouldn't have known.
I appreciate what you've done. Thanks, Jo

George is one of the children of George Frederick Lincoln and Abbie Johnson Lincoln. He was born in Litchfield, Illinois. Verification of the info I sent in the edit request can be found at archive.org's digital version of the book "Our Kin". Here's the address:
Thanks for all the work! I'm all excited to find George.

Ms. Schmidt -
You left a message on for my Great Uncle Robert Paul Hillard on 10 Sept 2010 and thanked him for being a part of Alaskan history... may I ask if you knew him personally? I understand from a number of our common Hillard family members that he was the black sheep of the family - it is unclear if family truly knew nothing of him and his life or if they knew and didn't want to acknowledge him or talk about him.
I am his brother Donald's granddaughter and have been following my family genealogy for almost 19 years now and had originally had assistance from Donald and their sister June, but both have since passed. I would truly like to learn more about Uncle Robert and would love to hear from you if you knew him personally.

|Gabbie ||John mcphail memorial|
Thank you so much for the wonderful memorial. Thanks to your contribution I finally found John. I have been trying to find him for years! There was intrigue and secrets with the mcphail family. I am a step cousin to John. We had no clue about this fortune business.
I would love any copies of news articles, obit, or records and would gratefully pay for any expenses involved. We have no information about colonel Sam mcphails estate or records of Alaska to access here. So, any information would be welcome in finding out the rest of the story to this family mystery.

I have been researching him because he is descended from some Canadian-Vermont ancestors of mine, ggg-grandparents William Johnson and Parthenia Burch... What is the thinking that did not marry. The 1930 census seems to indicate that he married a very young Japanese-Eskimo woman and had 3 children with her.

Hello Trish, I can't tell you how happy I am to have found you. First of all, I have sad news: My mom passed away on July 1st. My brothers, sister and I are having a terrible time trying to deal with it. She spoke often of our family in Fairbanks. I have very fond memories of Aunt Jessie and Uncle Sam. They would come to visit from Boston when I was a child and they always spoiled me. The family bible is still in mom's attic. I remember going thru it is a teenager. It is extremely fragile. I remember there being pictures in it,some were on tin. I will have my brother Bill go to the house and get it. I know it will be safe in his care. I also found a very old picture in with more current pictures. I would say from the late 1800's - early 1900's but have no idea who it is. The name of the photographer is on the cover: it is Frank Reeve, Lark Hill House, 160 St. Georges Rd. Bolton. I googled it and it is in England. It may be a picture from the Greenhalgh side, not sure. I would like to give you my and my brother Bill's email addresses: mine is firstname.lastname@example.org; I will send you my brother's thru private email. I look forward to hearing from you.
Your cousin, Cheryl

Hello Trish, I found this link by researching my great grandfather on my mothers side. His name is James A. Sullivan. I knew, when i saw the picture of him, that it was my great grandfather. His daughter, Ellen (Nellie)Sullivan Greenhalgh is my grandmother. My mother Edith (Pat) Mitchell traveled to Fairbanks to see her cousins about 10 years ago. I am so hoping I have the correct person here. I think you have been in touch with my cousin Andrew Davis? Please let me know if I have the correct person.

Yes I found an Aunt who is a member of Ancestry.Com She is my mothers younger sister about 10 years older than me. I found my older brother Robert who I never knew about before we have had much communication. I would like to find out who Mrs. Jay Bly from Anchorage 1959 is. She was listed in my mother's obit as her mother. Im thinking maybe she was a mother in law. I have a copy of moms death certificate that Robert got for us. Thanks for any help.

I have been an orphan for over 50n years now and would love to know more about where I came from.
