RE: Pvt. David C. Gregory notes
Don and I, want you to know, you did a fantastic job on David's Memorial.

Am I related, yes.

My Grandmother was Gertrude Thomas Gregory, her father was Joseph Thomas Gregory (brother to David C. Gregory) and of course, their father was Morris "Burris" Gregory...who mysteriously disappeared after the 1870 US Census.

My husband (Don) does all of the researching and investigating work...lol, but his search beyond Morris, is null and a Dead End, for now.

This is Don's last day of his Ancestry search and he'll be back after the New Year...., he truly enjoy this stuff, to say the least.

Don's wants you to know, for whatever he have in our MOORE Family Tree(Moore Families), your welcome to look, if you haven't already. just let us know and we'll do an INVITE.

Warmest Regards,

Patti MOORE Toothman (my mother Cordelia, who is Gertrude's daughter, she married my father James F. Moore).

Known some of the family forever. Betty Faye's daughter, Annette and Retha are good friends of mine. Annette was married to my cousin and Retha dated my brother ages ago.
I am doing research for a book about the women who served in Vietnam and were not nurses. We had a list of 208 that were deceased. In the last 18 months working on this, I have found another 74. If you come across any women Vietnam veterans, let me know. Thanks. Marsha

Southerngal!

Maybe you ought to put that whole thing you just wrote to me and put it in David's memorial...or maybe just the last part, describing when he was captured on April 6, 1865...., maybe?

Don

I stand corrected. Went digging for a law regarding military rank and found this. Will add PVT to his memorial.

Veterans who have served honorably during war are entitled BY LAW, 10 USC 772(e) to BEAR THE TITLE of the highest rank held during wartime.

Hi Southerngal!

Thanks for replying back so soon, and I appreciate it.

My original question was about the "Prison Card", the last digit (#5), indicating the year doesn't appear to be there (Or is it, but can't see it?), please help me on this.

So, they're saying that "David" was held in a Confederate Prison for 2-1/2 month's against his will(so to speak, but knowing that the communication was pretty scarce back in those confused days and Confederate soldiers, in denial of the CW ending), then became ill on June 7th, until he died 10- days later on June 17, 1865 (3-whole month's AFTER the CW ended)....., it wasn't 1864, maybe???

I just don't anything that says 1865, on the Prison Card, that you have posted.

Warmest Regards,
Don

Hello, just want to let you know I added the nickname to his memorial but did not add the PVT. Military rank does not go with you when you leave the service unless you died while in service or your retired from the service and in that case it is written PVT, Retired. I have been trying to locate women Vietnam veterans for the last 18 months and have found those that had a military rank on their memorials were difficult to locate for some reason. If I do a search by first and last name, I don't find them even with state and date of death. If I know the cemetery and search by last name, there they are. Don't know what it does to the search but it does make it hard to find people. Marsha

David C. Gregory #89283567
Hi Again, Southerngal!

After looking at David's Death Notice, I don't any number '5' at the end of 186 (1865). It strikes me a little funny, because the Civil War was over before President Lincoln was assassinated in April of 1865....., so is it possible, David died in 1864?

As for me, I am back into Ancestry and exploring all the Gregory families again.

Warmest Regards,
Don

Well, now that is a good question but I don't have an answer. Maybe she first married an Allbritton with whom she had her children, he died, and she married a Greene, and was buried as an Allbritton. But that is just a guess. If you find an answer, please let me know. Miss Greene may just be a southern thing of calling women "Miss"? A contributor named Herby Bloodworth sent me all that info.

Southerngal,

You're very welcome. I am always glad to be of help.

I did include photos for the others listed as interred at that gravesite. I also found the gravesite listing for Lena's son.

Good morning, I just accepted your edit and read your bio. I feel exactly the same way you do about those who hoard and then will not transfer management easily. It feels good to be able to give those little genealogy gifts to family members. Seems sometimes like they are missing the point. Koodles to you!

Andrew Joseph Bonds
Thank you for the death certificate of Andrew. I realize the name on the certificate is Bond, not Bonds - but notice the signature, Murray Bonds. His full name is William Murray Bonds, son of Andrew. The last name on the tombstone for William, Andrew and Andrew's father is Bonds, not Bond. I therefore believe the certificate was filled out in error and not corrected.

Thank You for suggestion to add an obituary for Sarah Jane Causey Raleigh. In fact, though, the obit you suggested is for Sarah Jane's mother, Sarah Elizabeth WRIGHT Causey. Both are my gg-grandmother and ggg-grandmother respectively and I have added the obit info I have for each. Thank you again, for your contributions to findagrave!

(Someone) told you she had passed? When? There are no obits, no death records, nothing. I suspect as you were trolling my memorials/stalking my page the other day you saw her husband's and added her. So, unless you have a death record, please delete it.
