Thanks for contacting me.
I think you are probably right.
My Caleb is probably the son of Caleb and Deborah, not Caleb and Thankful.
Looking at other ancestry trees on Ancestry, com, the results are about 50% each way.
If you are correct, the whole ancestry line after Caleb 1740 will have to be changed both on Find A Grave and my family tree.
I will take another look, and if need be, will change everything. Something I am not looking forward to.
But it should be corrected if it is currently wrong.
Again, thank you.

Hi Irma,

My name is Doug. I am the Great4 Grandson of James and Grace (Deshon) Lanphier, both of whom are buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New London, New London County, CT.

Thank you for imaging and posting my Great4 Grandparents gravestones on FindaGrave. I live in the Midwest and have never been to CT. Researching my LANPHIER/LANPHEER/LAMPHIER/ LANPHEAR family lines has been active hobby since I was 11 years old. It has been a very interesting voyage of discovery to say the least!

Although the gravestones for JAMES and GRACE in Cedar Grove Cemetery clearly annotate a surname of 'LANPHEER', the actual surname spelling is LANPHIER. This is the surname spelling used in JAMES'S Revolutionary War Pension Payment Records, as well as what few civil records I have been able to amass that survived being burned by the British during Arnold's attack on Groton and New London late in the Rev War. Is it possible this surname spelling change occurred after James and Grace were reinterred to Cedar Grove Cemetery from thier original interment? Of note, both LANPHEER and LANPHIER are pronounced exactly the same.

In 2008, I created a FindaGrave page for both James and Grace using what was thought to be the most probable surname at the time (e.g. LAMPHIER). You may wish to cross reference my page to update your pages for JAMES and GRACE (DESHON) LANPHIER/LANPHEER, as descedents for this line currently live in Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Idaho, and California, and updating your data would go a very long way in rectifying confusion and idle speculation among researchers of this line.

Very Respectfully,
