 | Azaline WILLIAMS-HILL I would like to thank you very much for posting the tombstone photo of Willey and Azaline (WILLIAMS) HILL. You helped to fill in some blanks in my research, which is something I am always grateful for. I do hope all those members who post such photos know how much we, who cannot travel, appreciate their taking their precious time. Such selflessness is greatly appreciated. Best of luck to you. | Manuel B. Martinez @ Evergreen Cem in Tucson Since you created the memorial page for Mr. Martinez, and, might I add, did a fine job, just a quick note to let you know a new picture of his veteran's memorial marker has just been posted. Hopefully, you'll think it is a tad better than the current picture.

 | RE: Charles Lane Hello Dale,
So sad and yet so hopeful, a father that loved his son so much.
Gaye Hill
Casa Grande Dispatch newspaper, Casa Grande, Arizonia Wednesday 17 May 1978; Page 3, Column 1
Missing Youth Found Dead
TUCSON (AP) - The 1968 death of a Tucson teen-ager is back on the list of active cases following the discovery of his body in a "John Doe" grave.
Calvin E. Lane disappeared in February, 1969, (sic) after telling his parents he was going to apply for a job here and visit his girlfriend. His father, Charles H. Lane, then a Tucson resident and now living in Roswell, N.M., filed a missing persons report when Calvin, 18, failed to come home.
A month later, Lane said, he went back to the Pima County Sheriff's Department and was told, "Don't worry, your son is over 18 and has the right to get lost if he chooses.''
So Lane searched on his own for nine years, traveling even to Mexico and Canada.
Finally, he began visiting anonymous graves in Tucson cemeteries, looking for death dates that approximated his son's disappearance. He compiled a list and went to see homicide detective Joe Jett.
Jett and other detectives found one of the deaths involved a decomposed body found near an air field west of the city.
Using hair taken from Calvin's comb and hairbrush that Lane had kept, technicians compared hair still in evidence files that was taken from the body. The match was perfect.
Medical records had been destroyed, but detectives said conversations with a doctor and a dentist convinced them that Calvin's remains had been found.
"When the father came to me I was completely unaware such a case existed." Jett said "I consider the case an embarrassment to the department."
"The case is actively being investigated now It's the least we can do. He was a nice kid with no known enemies or reason for having any enemies." Jett said.
Calvin is to be reburied in Roswell.Added by Gaye Hill on Jun 02, 2012 8:07 AM | |
