Dean family of Anderson County, SC
Hi Meredith,

You seem to have a lot on the DEAN family in Anderson County, SC and was wondering if you are related? I have a friend in Greensboro, NC who is a descendant and he has very little information on his ancestral lines.

RE: Henry W. Hester
Hi Meredith!
Thank you for your quick response and suggestion.

Unfortunately, I do not know Henry's first wife's maiden name.......I wish we could run across something that mentions it!

Again, thank you for your help with posting cemeteries, graves, etc.

Henry W. Hester
Hello! Thank you for all the work you have done to record the records of other people's families. I wanted to ask our permission to include the photograph of Henry W. Hester's headstone in my genealogy. I will respect your request, and will not share it on, FB or other internet outlets.

My husband is a descendent of Henry and Nancy (MNU) Hester and is one of their 4th g-grandsons.

Thank you for considering my request.

RE: Plot Numbers - Oak Grove Cem., Brunswick, GA
I have not been in about 3 years. My son use to live there and I would go take a few photos on the way to the quilt store. He has moved back home and we live in Albany. Glad to see someone is going to clean up the wonderful old cemetery. It has so much potential.

Plot Numbers
Have you been there? Obviously not, there are no markers in that overgrown cemetery to indicate where they are buried and it is a very small cemetery. This info will not help you find their graves.

Homer C. Cato

Thanks for the info. According to his Muster Roll on Fold3 he enlisted on May 1, 1862 not Aug 24, 1864. He was admitted to the hospital in Howard's Grove, Richmond, Virginia on Aug 23, 1864, more than likely from complications of having his hand amputated the previous Feb. I've added the info to his page.

Thanks again,

I have found out that anything is possible. There are many Adkison's in my tree also. When I find one I list. The person who transfered John E. Adkinson to you, "JH" is a cousin of mine but he passed a few years ago. His wife is trying to keep it going. We are related to the Adkison, but very distant. I don't remember where I got the information. I thank the stone may have been requsted from Texas by family, but was sent to Alabama. I will keep looking to find a answer, but don't have a answer now.

RE: Nathaniel Harris #14813499
Hi Meredith,

I absolutely understand your being shocked about the Nathaniel Harris transfer, and I apologize. I'm a bit embarrassed by what happened (which was a little surreal). Here's a nutshell version.

1. You wrote to me about the transfer.

2. I explained that I was also a descendant, etc etc. (My standard answer.)

3. You messaged me again right afterwards with some info for the memorial. (Wait...)

4. I thought to myself, "She can get that page fleshed out faster than I will, and we're both Nathaniel descendants as well as genealogists, so it probably is best to transfer it after all." (I didn't want to be an ancestor hoarder.)

5. I transferred it to you. (Wait...)

6. At some point later I noticed that, NO, I had transferred it the OTHER has-three-names-first-one-stating-with-M Nathaniel Harris descendant who had sent a message through FindaGrave right on top of yours.

7. "ACK!"

8. I felt incredulous and sheepish, but I was also relieved that at least I had transferred it to another cousin of ours who is as dedicated to Nathaniel as we are. Being a bit mired in other things (I had a back injury around that time), I decided to just leave it at that.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding as well as for not letting you know about my error. My intentions were in the right place, and it ended well, but that's cold comfort when it looks like people are playing politics or favourites or somesuch. Believe me - I'm way too busy to be that silly! :)

So again, I'm truly sorry.

(And now, not to change the subject but while I'm writing here anyway, if you have taken an autosomal DNA test, my mother's GEDmatch ID is M343009. Please let me know yours if you've tested so we can look for and label some Nathaniel Harris segments!)

Elizabeth Priscilla Trawick Jones
Dear Meredith, many thanks for the suggestion to link Elizabeth Trawick to her father, George Washington Trawick (33rd ALABAMA, CSA). She was my grandmother's mother so we're distantly related.

I noticed the note for Eliza that you might think her name was really Elizabeth. I have several relatives with the name Eliza and is not the same as Elizabeth.

RE: Allen Patterson #10385397 Grave Photos
I was thinking that I should wait until summer when the sun is not so low in the sky to rephotograph the stone, but if we have a cloudy day that is not raining, I'll redo the photo for you.

The sun was no help. I even tried a flash. The stone shows weather wear. I'll try again in summer when the sun is directly overhead.

Allen Patterson Grave Photos
It was difficult to photograph Lieutenant Patterson's grave site. The winter sun in low in the sky even at noon when we went to the cemetery. The inscription on the stone is well weathered, as you can see. I tried to enhance it with Photoshop. If you would like, I could go back and write it down.

I was fulfilling a photo request from another contributor of several of your Alexander ancestors when I came across his grave and found that he had not been documented. I wanted to transfer his memorial to you as I saw the extensive work you've done documenting your family genealogy.

Nathaniel Harris
Hi Meredith, thanks for your comments about Nathaniel. I am indeed a descendant, too. :)

I'll write a proper bio for him soon. I've been putting it off this past year with the hope that it won't be long before we have more information about his ancestry from DNA. I have a bunch of DNA matches to people who descend from Nathaniel through his daughter Abigail but it all still needs refining (especially separating the Harris bits from the Brooks bits, which are all very small at that distance).

If you've done an autosomal DNA test somewhere, look for my Mom at GEDmatch - she's M343009. The more data the better! -S
