Ellen Pears wife of John Pears
Hi Kevin, I came across Ellen Pears gravestone in the Stevenson Cemetery (PA) and saw where you created a Find A Grave memorial for John Pears in the same cemetery. I have done the same for Ellen. I assume she is the wife of your John Pears. I am not related. I did not see John's gravestone or I would have photographed it. If she is related I can transfer the memorial to you. Tom

RE: how is this related to David Cropper
Hello Kevin,

As on my Edit submitted for David Cropper, Clara Brister Cropper Martin was David R. Cropper's mother.

See the photo of the gravestone at Find A Grave Memorial# 8971897 for her Cropper name.

Her 1st husband was JW Cropper, and he was David's father, burial unknown at present.

Clara's second husband, John G. Martin, was David's step-father. Clara is buried with John G. Martin at Grave link above.

To put them altogether see: Dave Cropper in the 1930 US Federal Census for Olmstead, Logan, Kentucky at:

Clara E Martin is listed as MOTHER of David Cropper.
John G Martin is listed as the Stepfather of David Cropper.

Dave Cropper 44
Earl F Cropper 15
Keith G Cropper 13
Imogene Cropper 3
John G Martin 64
Clara E Martin 64

Clara's maiden name was Brister, but Brister is not on her gravestone. They used Cropper, I suspect, to leave a record of her first marriage and relation to her son David.

More references:

(Note the MRS)
Mrs Clara Cropper in the Kentucky Marriages, 1851-1900
Name: Mrs Clara Cropper
Gender: Female
Spouse: J. G. Martin
Spouse Gender: Male
Marriage Date: 18 Nov 1891
County: Logan
State: Kentucky

John G. Martin: Find A Grave Memorial# 8972019
Spouse: Clara E. Brister Martin (1866 - 1958)

For me, it's easier to understand visually what all the connections are! For a more complete view, see my page for Clara Brister on my "Brownfield Ivey Myers Kirby Brister Taylor Perry Family Tree" on This link may work:

Incidentally, while there, see also the page for David Cropper's second wife, Mettie Lee Sanders, and their children, see: David Rusoe Cropper:

There you will also find the child listed on your memorial page for David Cropper, as "infant Cropper (1935 - 1935)*," which is his daughter, Jeriana Cropper (1935-1935).

I'm a Brister descendant, so I did not try to add all of David's second family to your memorial page. But, feel free to use my data and do so if you wish.

Meanwhile, my research on David's father, JW Cropper, continues. No one seems to have it right with needed documentation. If you have access to grave lists, and find another Cropper that fits JW, perhaps a full name for JW Cropper would head me in the right direction.

Thanks for all you do on Find A Grave! This one is certainly a tough one to complete, but hoping this will help.

Warm regards,

Glaser - I'm Nancy's Daughter. My Grandma is Alice and Ovel. I just thought it would be nice to have them all linked you know? After I'm done with hosting a Grad party and a Glaser reunion this year, I'll see about having them turned over. Thanks Cousin. I believe your the one my mom speaks of fondly often.

You are welcome. My husband was is a Morgan. Both his grandparents were from Richardsville (Morgan & Whalin). They lived in Bowling Green after being married. I know some of them married Eadens. Haven't done as much on them as I have my dad's family.
May God Bless you and your family with a Happy Thanksgiving.

RE: Hall & Babb
Yes, HalI siblings married Babb siblings. I only recently discovered that John E Hall and Ella Hall were siblings (thanks to the release of PA death certificates). That's how I began working on the Hall graves. The other Babb sibling was Arthur, my great grandfather. Bertha Babb Hall died at age 21. I have not found the cause. John E Hall remarried and had a son Harland. John last lived in New Hampshire in 1930 after (once again) becoming a widower in 1908. I have not found his obit. Harland Hall died in Florida in 1987.

Done. Hall family is connected to my extended family through marriage. Ella Hall married my great grand uncle (Elmer Babb) and John E Hall married my great grand aunt (Bertha Babb). Both were first marriages that ended with death of wife (Ella and Bertha).

Kevin I am working on my family's genealogy and came across your work on Find A Grave. Your email address bounced back. I am a descendent of Gary Pemberton, Elizabeth Graves Davis, Cherry L. Eadens, Presley Eadens and Rene Chastain Eadens. I am just getting started and would love any advice you have for me. I was really confused about Matilda and Nancy until I saw your note about 1st and 2nd wife. I also have copies of (I think) Fannie and Presley's 1855 Bible with dates of births, marriages and deaths. It is difficult to read and I have not run across some of the names on yet. I think they may be cousins or aunts/uncles and would love to share my info.

RE: Walter Pears
Kevin, you are very much welcome. I truly believe that there is more to a person's life than just a stone with numbers. If they served in the military, they should be honored. It takes a real human to sacrifice for our freedom. I'm happy that I was able to add to his.

Hi, I just wanted to let you know the information that you have on Walter is incorrect. I was just at the cemetery a couple of days ago to take photos and researched him on ancestry. His veterans burial card is listed on the one I created. Leave me a note and if you want to correct it I'll transfer the one I created over to you. Thanks, Gwen
