RE: Photo of Ben Shelton
Thank you for sharing your photos Ruth. I take it you are a Shelton researcher?

Maybe you can help... Ben's father David was a first cousin to my 3x great grandmother Elizabeth Ann Shelton Philby, both children of Thomas Shelton and Elizabeth "Betty" Holden. I have the passenger list for Elizabeth's Philby family coming to New York -- she gave birth aboard ship. And I know the Philby's and David Shelton's family spent time in Allegheny Co. PA before moving to Iowa and Illinois. Do you have info on David's crossing? I know they had 2 other sisters that also came over and eventually lived with Elizabeth in Iowa, Margaret and Ellen. Do you know anything about them? And I've found lots in IL about an older Thomas Shelton I think may also be their brother. Makes sense since father was Thomas, but I don't have knowledge of him for sure... do you?

You took a lovely photo and I would like permission to use it on my public family tree. Of course I'll credit you and findagrave for allowing me to see a 'cousin's' grave. Thank you for your consideration ~Lisa

RE: Frank and Grace Thomas
Hello Ruth,

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. I would love to have any of the Thomas records transferred to me.

Peleg George Thomas was Charles H. R.'s brother and my great uncle. According to his obituary he was supposed to be buried at Mt. Hope, but I couldn't find any record of his grave there. He was a farmer in Brookfield for many years but moved with his son Philip to Missouri late in life.

I have quite a bit of information on all of the Thomas family from Seneca that I would be glad to add to their memorials.

Hello Ruth,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

I would love to take over the Thomas memorials. Thanks also for the information about my great uncle Peleg. He was from Seneca.

His brother Charles told family members he was moving Peleg back to Seneca for burial, but I could not find a record of this happening, and I've been searching for him all over Missouri!

I know his story, so I can add that too. Curious that he never got a headstone.

I can't blame anyone else, it was just sloppiness on my part.

Oh, I see what I did wrong. I saw "Mount Hope," and right away I leaped to the conclusion that it was Seneca, when in reality it was Mount Hope in Chicago. I am sorry that my mistake caused you any unnecessary work, and I do appreciate your bringing it to my attention.

I had already deleted the memorial as mistaken, but thanks for catching me on that.

I made contact with a niece in Illinois and she said that Joan's children have her ashes and they plan to spread them at Redondo Beach California next year if all goes as planned. Thank you for your interest.

I'd be delighted to have a copy of the photo. I may be able to recover some of the inscription. I'm at

As for the transfer, thank you, but this is the memorial of a remote, collateral ancestors, and I'm trying to avoid becoming a collector.

No, I'm no relation. I was researching death certificates and found that they had no memorials posted. I would be glad to transfer them to you if you would like.

No, I am afraid I have nothing else. It could be that whoever gave me that information had it wrong.

RE: Mildred Underhill

I found a picture of Mildred F Underhill's headstone, on, with the notation
Mt Hope Cemetery, Seneca, IL. I can not put the picture out because I did not take it. That is all I know about the burial. Thank you for checking into this puzzle.

Mount Hope, got it. "Kinkade-Demick" that's how they put it in the obituary, so I *presume* that that is how the family wants it presented, or perhaps that is how Diane wanted it.
