RE: Bozo & Mae
Thank you for the info on Bozo and aunt Mae. I was contacted by Bozo's daughter, JoRachel Herriman Mullins. I e-mailed her back, but never heard from her again. I would think she would know what happened to her dad and grandma after their deaths. If and when I find out any info on them I'll get back with you. Do you know if California death certificates have burial information listed? Joan

Helton Relatives
Jerry, we have talked before. Can you tell me if James Calvin Helton 1874-1954 buried at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera Co. CA is related to you? I think he is related to me, but am not familiar with the family tree where I found his name so can't be sure. His mother was supposedly a Eliza/Elizabeth Churchman married to William M. Helton.

Hi Jerry, I see you are a cousin to Bozo Herriman. Rachel Mae'Phillips'-Herriman-Schmidt-Quadros, Bozo's mother is my great aunt. While I was searching for Aunt Mae's grave I found Bozo's. I requested a pic of Bozo's head stone and received a problem message back saying, "No record of any Herriman burial within the District, which covers all of Porterville and Springville Cemeteries". I would appreciate any help I could get on getting a pic of his headstone and the location if different than you have given. Would you happen to know the location of Mae's burial site? Thanks for your time. Joan

Thanks Jerry. I tried to get to your family tree on Ancestry but since I am not a member I cannot view the tree. My tree is owned by my friend Rich and all I can do is edit it. I have researched on Footnotes almost all of the Beck's and tying family members together. I have almost all of them done. The most important one that I need to find about is my gr grandmother Emily A Beck. She was the daughter of John and Emily Benge Beck. I would give anything if I could find where she is buried. The only thing I know for sure is she died in the Riverton, Salt Lake City area. I notice on a lot of your families trees that there are numerous photos, etc. Guess I will go the local library and use their Ancestry to find more. Have a great evening and talk to ya later.

Thanks Jerry. With all of the Beck's on the Dawes roll I have been trying to tie together the different families. I know this is not a kosher question to ask an Indian, but do you know what degree of Indian Blood they were registered at because I have found various degrees with members of the same family? I know that is a question you shouldn't ask, but it would help me in getting my CDIB card updated. Thanks again...........

Jerry, Thanks for the info. I am not a member of, but, I have a friend that set me up with a tree with him as the owner and myself and my youngest son can edit the tree. I do not know if it is public or not. I will check with Rich and find out. Thanks for giving me the tree name for the Becks-Raffety families. I will check it out. I went to the Beck Cemetery here in Bartlesville on Sunday afternoon. The plaque on the gate states that it is the black Beck's. I do know that Jeffery and Joe Beck had slaves but don't know if these people were really black or not. I am researching this now. I have not found out anything stating that John and Emily Beck had slaves, but I have been researching Footnotes for most of my info. Where this cemetery is located was originally 80 acres of Indian land. Unsure whom it was given to. I have my CDIB card through the Emily Benge Duncan bloodline, but Tahlequah told me I could appeal the degree once I could prove more bloodline and I think I have enough on the John Beck side to do so. Do you have your CDIB card and if so was it documented with the Beck side? Thanks for the info and if you are ever in this area I would love to meet you or other family members.

Beck's in NE OK
Thanks Jerry. I had noticed where you had entered a lot of the memorials for the Beck's and thought maybe you would be my connection to John and Emily Benge Beck. They had sixteen children so it is possible that we are distant somethings. I will attempt contacting one of the other Beck's. Thanks again and have a nice day.

Beck connection
Jerry, I have been working on the genealogy of my family and see your name on numerous Beck memorials on Find a Grave. My maiden name was Dyer. My Dad's name, Louis Mathew Dyer, his father was Mathew Dyer and Mathew Dyer's father was Thomas Marion Dyer. Thomas Marion Dyer married Emily A.(Sevier)Beck in Salt Lake City, Utah. She and Thomas Marion Dyer had one son, Mathew and Emily A. died when Mathew was about nine months old. Thomas brought Mathew back to Indian Territory and he was pretty well raised by his Aunt Sallie Mabry. Mathew married my paternal grandmother Ollie Lnora Paris and they had two daughters that died as infants and they had my Dad.
I have not been able to find when Emily died and where she is buried. Even searching with the Mormons of which they were members of the Mormon faith. I went to the Beck Cemetery here in Bartlesville, OK this afternoon, there is a Samuel Beck, Nancy Beck and their two children buried there plus one other girl age 8. On the gate to the that cemetery it states that the Beck's were black. Do you know anything of these people? My Dad was born here in Bartlesville as were us four kids and we had no idea that family was this close. If you have any information you could exchange with me and hopefully some pictures I would love it. Also does the A in Emily A stand for Amy or do you know? Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you. F. Louise Dyer Christy Hilligoss.

RE: Photos
You're welcome. This was an interesting trip. I found several of Caldwell and Norma's siblings as well as their parents W.F. "Watt" and Lelia Beck. The really unusual thing was that all of these burials were marked by only 4 sets of identical headstones. Watt and Lelia's stone has Kenneth(not deceased) and Louise's memorials on the back side. Caldwell and June share with Bud(Harold David) and Florence, Norma and Samuel Gene Hemphill share with Madeline Beck Stone and husband Garrett, and the 4th stone has Leathers on one side and House on the other (no death dates listed yet). That is one of the most efficiently marked family plots I have ever seen.I made memorials for the ones that didn't have one. If you want them transfered let me know and I will do so.

Thanks for sending me on an interesting trip.

Have a great day.

You are Welcome. I'm sorry I could not find that headstone for you. There are several graves marked with stones and a couple with mangled metal markers.

Have a great day

You are welcome!

I try to follow find-a-grave's rules, but I felt if you were willing to invest money, then you should be the caretaker of their pages.

RE: Opal Helton
The birth date for Opal was wrong. If this came from the cemetery, I wonder if their records are wrong or it was just an error in the letter. I have seen some of your family names before but I haven't found any of them in my line of Helton's. But I haven't been able to go beyond William Helton b. @ 1808 married Celia Duncan. But I have learned thru DNA study that my Helton line doesn't match any other Helton's that have been tested so far. Maybe an adoption or? Thanks for fixing the site for my mom. Jo Ann

I'm so glad I could be of assistance to you. I think I kinda understand where you are coming from. To have a connection despite miles and time, that's an awesome feeling .. and one that is hard to put in words. I'm that way with the grandpa I never knew; he died nearly a decade before I was born.

If I can do anything else to help ya out, just holler at me, be glad to do what I can.

Have a great weekend

RE: Request
Thank you very much for your kind words; I do enjoy my "job" at ren faires - very much my stress reliever for all my 'mundane' jobs. My hat is my favorite piece of my garb; it is decorated with alot of favors from friends and family members (more so than when that photo was taken!).

Glad to be of assistance; I don't live that far from Ketchum and Beck happens to be one of my step-dad's family names. I grew up on the Lillie Bell (Beck) Deitrick indian land grant and now own a small portion of it. Are your Becks by chance related to my step-dad's?

The tree you mentioned is gone, not even a small trace of it remains. Mr. Beck's tombstone sits between two other persons stones and is nearly flush with the ground.

Maybe one of these days my troupe will get to travel out to Cali and our paths will cross. Until then, should you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me, be glad to help any way I can.

Have a great day!
