Luther Branch - 2nd wife
And I just found Luther's second wife as well; Mary Burbank is buried in Madison Co, NY. Her memorial number: 22060125

I've asked the owner of Luther's memorial to link her as well.

RE: Abigail Branch headstone

Luther is buried in Michigan, of all places. I just found him: 93753594

Please link him with Abigail.

Has the right birth date and says "formerly of Benson VT."

Abigail Branch
Consort means that they were married; it was simply another, more poetic way of saying it. It doesn't have the connotation that it has today.

Abigail Branch

I'm not sure how Abigail's tombstone would help to confirm her relationship to her father, Rufus, but it certainly confirms her relationship to her husband,Luther.

Here's a transcription of the information that's on her tombstone:
"BRANCH, Abigail, consort of Mr. Luther, d. Aug. 11, 1810, age 40 y 8 m."
[Source: Jenks, Margaret R.: Benson, Hubbardton, and Sudbury Cemetery Inscriptions, Rutland County, VT; privately published, Granville, NY, 1993, p. 6]

And her death record also confirms her relationship to Luther:
Vermont, Vital Records, 1760 - 1954
Name: Abigail Branch
Event: Death
Event Date: 11 Aug 1810
Event Place: Benson, Vermont, United States
Age: 40
Estimated Birth Year: 1770
Spouse: Luther Branch

Abigail Branch

If you'll send me your email address I'll send you a copy of the page from one of the Branch genealogies that confirms Abigail as the daughter of Rufus Branch. It's not "proof" in the way that a VR would be, but it's a source.

RE: Abigail and Luther
Ahhhhhhhhhh. Suzanna, Thank you for the orientation.

Yes, I have quite a bit of information on Abigail's ancestry and was FINALLY, a few weeks ago, able to trace Luther's ancestry so that I could establish the distant relationship between them. (I imagine that you already know how they were related, but I didn't. And if you don't know, please send a message and I'll lay out what I found.)

It's wonderful that you have the pages from Luther's bible. I'm hoping that this means you know more about what happened to him than I do. If so, please let me know. Also, do you know where he's buried is there a memorial for him? If so, I've been unable to find it, and I would very much like to link him with Abigail and with his father.

Alas, I live in California, not Vermont. But I spend time every summer in VT, which is my husband's home (hence my interest in the families and burial grounds of Rutland Co.). The Branch family is already on my photography "to do" list for next summer, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the weather gods will cooperate with my plans more than the did this past year (Hurricane Irene). A lot will also depend on what happens with my sister, who is battling metastatic liver cancer.

Finally, I will be happy to transfer the memorials for you ancestors to you if that is what you wish. Please let me know and send you Find-a-grave membership # so that I can do it easily.

Abigail and Luther
Hi Suzanna,
Thanks for your message but I have to make a confession. My sister is very ill and I grab spare moments here and there to enter genealogy data, which keeps me sane. But when I'm doing bits and pieces and also have my mind on other things, nothing sticks. So, please give me a surname, so I'll know who you're talking about. Sorry to be so out of it, but it's the way things are right now.

RE: Caroline C. Henson
Looks like Ella and John are with Caroline. I'll find out the relation (possibly children of hers?) and I'll add to the descriptive area once confirmed. I used to go visit my great aunt Ella in Helena; we'll see if that's the one!

I read she doesn't have a marked grave. I do not know if the cemetery has a record of her burial though. Thank you for trying.

Thank you for the photo!
Thank you so much for the photo of Julia Ann Hyde Boothe's headstone, and also for looking all over the cemetery for Martha Jane Boothe and her husband Henry Jackson or Jack Champion. All three are my direct ancestors. I really appreciate you looking all over the cemetery. Do you know if there are burial records for this cemetery or who to contact? Maybe there wasn't any money for a headstone since the family was poor. He might be listed as John Champion since that is how he shows up on some census records. Thanks again for all of your efforts!

RE: McLane Pictures
They're distant cousins to me so I can't really say what to do. As long as it does no damage, I see no problem with it. If you get some good pictures, post them on their memorials.

I was born in the upper part of the state. I grew up in Kershaw and now live in Lancaster. My mother was born in Goodwater, Alabama and was a McLane (her mother was a Conaway).

Thanks so much for the pictures of James and Cythia's tombstones! I know the weather must be hot in Alabama (it's in the 90s everyday here in South Carolina) so I really appreciate your taking the time to do this for me. :)
