Emerson Aden Clark
I was wondering if I could copy of one of your images you took and posted on, for my genealogy file. The image are of the headstone for Emmerson Aden Clark. Emmerson Aden Clark is my fifth cousin. Our common ancestors are John Harrison Sarah Lovell who emigrated from Yorkshire to Nova Scotia in 1774. With your permission, I would also like to post it on my genealogy FB page: "John Harrison Sarah Lovell" with the notation: Source: Jim Shafer at I am not asking that you transfer the memorials! Thanks! Randy Harrison, Truro Nova Scotia, Canada

Jim, do you know that Valhalla divides the cemetery locations into 2 parts. There are 2 sections called F. They designate them as "mausoleum park" or "memorial park". Did you check both areas?

Thanks very much Jim for the picture of Virgil's marker. I was hoping that you could also get a picture of his father's marker, Hiram Dallas Harner (Find A Grave# 162128731) who according to the cemetery office is close by.

Thanks again

RE: Mary Williams Dudley
Hi Jim - Thomas is listed as the father of Mary Ann Williams on the original death record of the Willard Precinct Cemetery.

His father's name has been recorded as Richard Morris Williams on some of the family search data, so Morris could have very well been Thomas's middle name, but since middle names were so rarely used or recognized in that era, I really do not know.

Also, since Thomas, Richard, Ann, Williams, and Lewis are such common Welsh names and surnames, finding the correct Christening record is like a needle in the haystack. My best source is the death record of Willard, where Mary Ann died.

Sorry to not be of more help. Cheers, Shirleen

Kenneth Lloyd
William Manford Shafer's Mother
Jim, you have done a really outstanding job with your research & I want to thank you very much.

I am Kenneth LLOYD, a direct descendant of William Henry SHAFER & his "1st wife", Mary Elizabeth ANDERSON, b. 1833 in IN., d. 17 Mar. 1862 & their son, William Manford SHAFER, b. 5 Feb. 1854, Franklin Co., IN., d. 18 Nov. 1931 Minneapolis, Ottowah, KS. & his 2d wife, Malissa DANE, b. 10 Oct. 1860, Rockport, Spencer, IN., d. 6 Mar. 1933, Weiser, Washington, ID. & their dauther, Zannah Icenna SHAFER, b. 31 Jul. 1896 Parsons, Labette, KS, d. 2 Dec. 1977 La Grande, Union, OR., & her hubsband, Charles Christian Frederick (C.C.F.) LLOYD, b. 26 Aug 1876, Harriettsville, Noble, OH. d. 25 Apr. 1941, Pendleton, Umatilla, OR. & my parents, Charles Justin LLOYD, b. 5 Jul. 1922, La Grande Union, OR, d. 25 Feb. 1992, Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai, ID. & his wife, Alice Gertrude DEAN, b. 24 Jul. 1924, Spokane, Spokane, WA., d. 2 Apr. 2001, Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai, ID.

All of the above information was provided by either my parents or my Grandmother Zannah. All this being laid as a foundation, I need to tell you that William Manford SHAFER, & Mary Catherine "Kate" SHAFER were via Mary Elizabeth ANDERSON, NOT Sarah LAMBERT. Furthermore, you have raised an outstanding curiosity, Mr. Theodore Fletcher SHAFER, b. 30 Jan. 1854, supposedly via Sarah LAMBERT. Theodore, & my Grandfather, William Manford SHAFER were born less than a month apart & Sarah LAMBERT was born 10 Mar. 1844 in Franklin Co. IN. That would make her almost 10 years old when Theodore was born.

Can you please clarify this problem. I have heard from other kin that Theodore Fletcher SHAFER is actually kin to me & I would really like to know the true link. I can be reached at the following web site:

Kenneth Lloyd
Theodore Fletcher SHAFER
Here is a puzzle. Per Find A, Theodore is the son of William Henry SHAFER & Sarah LAMBERT.
William & Sarah married on 20 Dec. 1862. Theodore was born 30 Jan. 1854 in Franklin Co., IN. He passed over on 28 Apr. 1923 in CA. Now get this. My Great Grandfather, William Manford SHAFER, son of William Henry SHAFER & Mary Elizabeth ANDERSON, was born 5 Feb. 1854 in Franklin Co., IN. & passed over on 18 Nov. 1931 in KS. Their births are less than a week apart. William Manford SHAFER was William & Mary's 2d of 5 children. Their 1st was Cassa Matilda, born 13 Apr. 1852 also in Franklin Co., IN., which means that they married about 1850, 12 years prior to William marrying Sarah. So my questions are these. Did William & Sarah have an affair, as it were, during the same month that William Manford was conceived? That, or is Theodore not really the child of William & Sarah? Do you have any hard sources with relation to Theodore?

Thanks for the great work!!!

Stone for Anna Whittle
Thank you so much for the photo. This family has been very difficult to research. She does not seem to buried with her husband, who died in 1922. She had no children. She does not seem to be buried with any of her sisters. I wonder who provided the stone!?! Anyway, thank you. Judy
