Hello Carol

We wanted to thank you for taking care of the edits we sent you, we accepted this cemetery and noticed so many memorials did not have the veterans rank, so your accepting the edits and we added a flower makes their effort to protect us all a worthwhile effort.
thanks again for the help

RE: William P. Butler (#18414426)
That is certainly strange. According to his AOG obituary, Butler did offer his services to the War Department during the Span-Am War, but he was not accepted back into service. Also, no other military records mention that he served during that war.

He did not serve in the Spanish-American War. He did serve however in the American Civil War, as a member of the 4th Kentucky Cavalry.

Dear Carol,
Thomas was a beloved uncle, a single man with a singular personality and style. Thank you for your work with Find a Grave which allowed me to complete our family tree. My children and grandkids will know Uncle Tom in part to your good work.
Blessings to you,
Maryellen

Stanton A. Mason 30016241
Your surmise is correct. Stanton Mason (whose middle name by the way was Augustus, according to Cullum's Register) died while stationed at Vancouver Barracks, Vancouver, Wash. He is reported in the contemporaneous press to have died of Bright's disease. I'm still not coming up with an exact birthplace, though.

RE: Cora Schlekau # 118443640 & Henry John Schlekau, Jr # 133870223
I checked the genealogy department at the public Library and there was a book on Westlawn Hilcrest. It was of readings of about 4 sections, one of which was section 23. It was created in 1989. No, Henry wasn't in there. I looked at actual Obits from Newspapers. Cora's was in the file but Henry Jr was Not. His fathers obit was in there. Ancestry dot com wasn't much help as it told me things I already knew. All my friend was able to do was verify her microfiche from cemetery records that Cora and Henry are suppose to be next to each other (Spaces 7 and 8) in lot 328.

I have already sent then a description and explanation. I really don't know if they will read it and update their records. I have been waiting for a reply from a gal who works for the Genealogical society. Her group are working on a detailed list of all the people buried at Westlawn Hillcrest and I am sure she could look up in her records to see where Henry is or if he has a stone. When I get a reply I will let you know.

I just deleted them. Did you have any better luck today with photos?

I visited three old cemeteries here in southern Oregon and found a couple that had stones that could not be read and so I did foil rubbings. It worked well. I will have to visit more of the cemeteries that have old headstones that are no longer able to be read.

RE: Originally buried at Ft. Klamath, Oregon
Hi Carol,

Yes, I work an odd shift that makes for odd hours. Perfect for working on Find A Grave :o)

Pictures that need to be added to the Fort Klamath memorials:
Infant Backus, 52385692
Lawrence Mooney, 52383223
**I added pictures to both

Pictures that need to be deleted from the San Francisco memorials:
Jeremiah M Crooks, 3524114
Stephen T Hallock, 3528837
S A Smith, 95957594
**These are the ones you added and so you will have to delete them.

Yes, I've also found that there are techniques to photographing headstones. I've found it addictive and I am now doing day trips with a friend to find old cemeteries.

I tried aluminum foil rubbings on difficult to read stones for the first time. Here's the first one I did, it was at Ft. Klamath 27596019 Just a challenge to get a good photo and not a good idea try it on a windy day. Have you tried it before?

Thanks again for your help and good luck on updating your photos.

Hi Carol,

I went through tonight and deleted all my pictures from SFNC and added the composites to all of the memorials at Ft. Klamath. Let me know if I missed any.

Thanks,

RE: Originally buried at Ft. Klamath, Oregon
Hi Carol,

That looks really nice and I think it's a great idea. I will go back in and delete the pictures I posted and then do you want to add the composite photos?

I've not used the virtual cemetery feature yet, I'll have to read about how to use it.

Thanks for your help!

RE:Transfer of memorial for Gladys Chubbuck # 51799359
Thank you, Carol for the transfer!

I appreciate the offer to remove the photos which you took, but I would like you to leave them. It's a reminder of your efforts. It's also a tribute to the hard work which J.R. Reagan and his construction crew at the San Francisco National Cemetery are doing to preserve the memorial headstones of those who served and put their lives on the line.

Thanks again.
