Would you allow me to use the photo of the Baker's headstone in my family tree? It is not public and I would not share it anywhere. Thank you for your consideration. Cindy

RE: Aman Maurer Obit
Hello Kay,

Heinrich could have "Americanized" his name to Henry or Herman after he immigrated to the United States. There are Calvary cemetery memorials with the name Henry and Herman Maurer on the site who may be descendants or were named in honor of Heinrich.

It's a mystery.

RE: Aman Maurer Obit
Hello Kay,

I visited Calvary cemetery today to look for the graves of Aman and Barbara Maurer in Block A, lot 7.

There are three markers in the lot. The center one looks like it has the name Aman Maurer. The dates are not legible. A photo of the marker is uploaded to his memorial.

The marker to the right of Aman is not legible. It may be Barbara's headstone. The cemetery office probably does not have records of who is interred in the plot next to Aman since records prior to about 1909 were destroyed in a fire.

The one to the left of Aman looks like it has the name Heinrich Maurer. It looks like the names Amand and Barbara are below the name. The dates are not legible. I don't believe this is a child of Aman and Barbara since the 1900 census says 8 of 8 Barbara's children were living. Aman and Barbara's obits lists the names of eight living children none were named Heinrich. He could be the father or brother of Aman although I don't know why both Amand and Barbara would also be on the marker. I created a memorial for Heinrich and uploaded photos.

Hello Kay,

I like to add information in the bio. It enhances to the memorial instead of just name and dates. The information may be useful for decedents working on their genealogy.

I have been exploring the Maurer family interred at Calvary. There are many! I will look for the headstone the next time I visit Calvary and upload a photo. The block and lot number is a great help in finding the grave since the cemetery is so large. The headstone should clarify his first name.

I'll keep you posted if I find the headstone.

Trace me back to our conection.

Your father, grandfather

I love genealogy.

I don't have a lot on John's family they were not very close. I don't think he ever met his grandfather Ralph English. He died in prison I think. But he loved Bessie and talks about her often. I never met her.

RE: Evans
It's a beautiful day here and I was out doing errands, so glad to have the opportunity to mosey through the cemetery!

I'm not related, but did a quick search on and yes, between census records and little Gwen's obituary, I believe that Joshua was her father. It doesn't look like he's buried at Prairie Home though.

Hope this helps your research!

RE: Mary Mowery
You can purchase a copy of the Oak Ridge Cemetery book from the Berrien County Genealogical and Historical Society. I believe they charge $ 15.00. It was not uncommon for a second wife to be buried with her first husband even though her name had changed. I have seen this on several occasions, especially if both parties had been married before. I photographed Mary's marker but her name is weathered away but the dates can be read. She is buried next to Aaron in the Miller plot, which is right next to the Weaver plot. I am certain this is her and that she was buried as Miller eventhough she was a Morey at that time. I will post the photos and you can connect her to Aaron and Hiram.

Mary Mowery
I decided to take a photo of Mary Mowerys' marker for you. I checked the Oak Ridge Cemetery book, recently redone by the berrien County genealogical and Historical Society, for Oak Ridge. It does not include a burial for Mary Mowrey or Mowery. I found her death record at:

It gives her name as Mary E. Miller Mowrey. Her parents are also listed on this record. Her maiden name was Weaver not Miller. Looking again at the cemetery book there was a Mary Miller buried with these same dates. It also says her husband was Aaron Miller and her maiden name was Weaver. I believe this is the same individual. I did not want to post the pictures I took until you agree that this is the same person.
