Charles F. Smith - Laurel Hill, Saco ME
Found it easily--the sun was out this time and I could read one side of the stone. I added pics and a memorial for his wife Nellie B. There is writing on the other (darker) side of the stone that is hard to read, but Susannah wife of ____ Smith is clear. Do you know if he married again after Nellie died?

Thanks for taking the effort to clean it. I know just what you mean when you don't have your tools with you. Also when camera batteries are dead. GRRR! Luckily most times I'm just short distance from most of my work & can return to finish the job. I would like to get to that cemetery for other Swains, Wm Swain's granddaughter at 96 is still with us & i would really like to bend her ear.

RE: Rev. Ebenezer N. Fernald, ME
I think I've got it...somehow, I misread it and put him in wrong cem. in wrong state!
It was easy to correct with your info, and I think it could be correct now. Nice that you input his parents and two small children. Bio said they had "five" but I only have names of the four we have on his/her bio. When I have time....maybe I will search???
Thanks, and sorry I got it wrong...I'm in a pre-Christmas'tizzy'.

Rev. Ebenezer N. Fernald, NH
Steve, THANK YOU very much for finding the above burial record. Melissa IVES, Findagrave contributor, helped me, and let me know he was not in the cemetery I had placed him. I had not been able to find him since, and this is GREAT NEWS at Christmas to receive where he is
I have transferred him to West Lebanon Cem. in Grafton, NH. If you know the names of the two children who are there, I'd like to know and put them on, or you can. I will try to find info on Eben's father, Dea. Joseph Fernald. Also, I'm requesting a photo of his stone. (I also changed month to show as the stone). Winnie

Charles F. Smith - Laurel Hill, Saco ME
Hi Steve,
I returned to Laurel Hill this morning and was shown the map of the cemetery to locate lot 876 on Riverside. That 'road' is really a grassy path that has three terraces the path and another series of graves. I was unable to locate a stone with Charles' name. I saw 3 sets of stones with Smith names: closest to the main road on the right-a tall obelisk with Susan Smith on one side and I think Nellie on the other, next on the left side: Roland Smith (military), then on the right-a large stone with HILL/MURCH and several Smith/Hills in front and Murch/Hill in back.
I'm not sure this is at all helpful, but if you recognize any of the names, perhaps Charles is near them. This area is at the edge of the cemetery and the upper terraces are fairly overgrown. I can try again in the spring or summer.

Thank you for making aware of the fact that I had Albert listed as having been buried in the wrong cemetery. Could you add a picture of his headstone to his memorial ? Or would it be okay if I did it ?

Plus....
Its not a snooty thing, but excellent history. Winfield has at least three Mayflower ancestry lines, and probably four. These Hasty's are linked into the Strout, Jordan, Nickerson, Freeman, Treat families of Cape Cod, and the Coffins and Starbucks of Nantucket. Really interesting stuff. BTW, I lived in Brunswick for two years, then over in Madison, NH, south of Conway for seven. The genealogy group in Parsonsfield, ME was very active back then. (late 90's)

Photos??
Hi again, Steve....

You mentioned photos and Augusta and Flora, so I went back to see the photos, but their names do not come up in a search so I was unable to see them, or their entries.

Also, I noticed that Winfield's entry has no wife, nor children listed.

RE: Laurel Hill Cemetery - Winfield Hasty
Steve, Thanks so much for the rapid reply.

I had NO information about the family, not even their names. Are you related? How do you know about the daughter, Flora? I wonder if there were any descendants.

I have Winfield's Civil War letters that he sent to the family in Arapahoe, NE. I brought them here to my home to scan them and will share them with the Maine Historical Society. He was stationed at Camp Chantilly in VA and nearby in Alexandria when he wrote them.

Thanks again,

Jane

Laurel Hill Cemetery - Winfield Hasty
Hi Steve -

I have checked this site many times hoping to find Winfield Hasty, the child that my ancestor Oliver Staples Hasty left behind when he went west. The entire rest of the family is buried in my Nebraska hometown and every memorial day I have wondered about the branch left behind. Thank you for posting the grave. Any chance there are any photos or any knowledge of anymore Hasty's buried there?
