Nancy:

Your AOL email account isn't working. I sent you the following email and it came back to me.

Regards,
John Curtis

Hi Nancy:

Iím researching James Smith Ė and it looks like you are too.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=132876450

Iím a descendant of his sister: Anna Smith Thompson. I have all the information on her, her spouse and descendants up on find-a-grave with photos. If I didnít put up the memorial pages, Iíve corrected them, linked them and added photos.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=6942189

As to James Smith, can we compare notes? There is a picture of Jameís tombstone which matches the information on his death certificate signed by our cousin Ethan Smith (a surgeon) -- and the picture is in Riverside Cemetery. However, the death certificate states interment in the Sumnerville Cemetery Ė and that is where the find-a-grave memorial page is with a nice bio and all the links to relatives pages Ė but no photo of the grave marker.

Iíd like to get this sorted out. And it looks like youíre one step ahead of me on this matter. Itís nice to see someone else working on Smiths Ė itís a common and therefore very difficult name to research.

I do have one piece of genealogical information on Dr. Ethan H. Smith from my grandmotherís files (a newspaper clipping of his obituary) which Iím putting on find-a-grave in a few minutes. See attached.

John Densmore Curtis

Photo request
RE: Catherine Bliss (request from 2013); UPDATE:

I received a request, saw a list of unclaimed requests, so trying to work on them. Also, Weesaw Twp is converting to computer, so difficult time to consult their records.

Here is what I did find: Died 16 MAR 1904 at age 78. Info came from Death Certificate. She is unfortunately listed in a section where her grave site location is unknown. I have hope that when they compile their records, we may find something. They have my phone number so we will be in touch while they complete this project.

I have not seen a stone for Catherine on two walk-thru visits. It is a fairly big cemetery, so would be easier if I can narrow down an area. Still working....

Nancy:

In late 2012, I started what was intended to be a short hiatus from working with Find-A-Grave, but such hiatus ended up being about three years.

During the hiatus, all Find-A-Grave messages were automatically diverted into a separate folder where such messages sat unread. I started reviewing those messages a little over a month ago, but I have about 20,000 messages left to review.

Anyway, I came across the message quoted below that you sent to me on 15 Jan 2013. I just wanted to let you know that I have finally processed your request. Better late than never.

Russel Babcock
Need conformation of Russel Babcock (1786-1847)#83534868, husband of Anna Malley and father of Lurinda Hunter being buried in Benton Cem.
All research shows him at least 60 years old at death...(the above dates 61y)
The 1840 census of Berrien Co, MI shows, Russel Babcock, 1 male 20-29 yrs...1 female 20-29 yrs and 1 female under 5 years of age. This does not add up to age at death...also there are several other Russel Babcock names found in area. Please give data to prove this burial. Thank you...DJ Baker

Will Nancy's work remain available?
Nancy Heib, 72, of Greenwood, passed away at 10:23 a.m. Aug. 7, 2015, in Indianapolis.

She was born as Nancy Ellen Letcher on Feb. 5, 1943, in Pawating Hospital in Niles, Berrien County, Michigan, to the late Paul and Thelma (Bliss) Letcher.

Nancy graduated from Cassopolis (Michigan) High School in 1961.

She married Hermann Heib on Feb. 23, 1963, at Ninth Street Methodist Church in Three Rivers, St. Joseph County, Michigan. They were blessed with three daughters.

They first made their home in Three Rivers and in Vicksburg, Michigan. They then had a home built at 5299 Whippoorwill Drive in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for 31 years, from 1969 to 2001, where her husband worked for General Motors for 35 years, from 1965 to 2001.

Since her husbandís retirement in 2001, they made their home on Annelo Drive in Greenwood.

Nancy worked as a receptionist for a number of years, as a telephone operator and in the security department of Hudsonís Department Store in Kalamazoo.

Nancy was an avid genealogist and had researched 27 surnames in her family tree. She also wrote books on two of the surnames. Nancy also loved to watch and study backyard birds.

Surviving besides her husband are three daughters, Nan Roberson of Indianapolis, Lisa Brodasky of Fort Wayne and Lori Mucci of Greenwood; and six grandchildren, Kristina and Richard Roberson, Nicholas and Christopher Brodasky, and Austin and David Mucci.

Private services have been conducted. Burial was at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Glenns Valley, Greenwood.

Oak Grove photos for Sarah Smith
The stones are very worn as you know. I think I have photographed proof that Sarah is recorded on the left side of the spire stone that contains the clearer engraving for Peter. I would say the faint marker there with MOTHER would also be hers. Between the spire and MOTHER is the stone for infant son who died Sep 12, 1848.

Re: Henry Smith in Rose Hill Cemetery
Nancy, Thank you for all the research you continue to do. I think the marriage of Henry Smith is not this Henry, but possibly of Henry Smith 127657635 from Hagar township. Sincerely, Kathy J.
