Springfield Cemetery Question
Hi there Don!

Hello! Hope you have been enjoying the summer. I consider you the go-to person when it comes to Springfield Cemetery and hope you might be able to help.

Someone contacted me with questions about Urana and Betsey Ellis buried in Springfield. You can see this by looking at Betsey’s memorial, #102293283. I photographed the headstone and created the memorial but have very little information about either one of them.

I found census information for Urana living in 1860 in Springfield, but with a John and Mercy Albert and Abagail Houghton. The relationship between them is not clear but Urana was apparently born about 1813 in NY.

For Betsey I could only find that in 1870 she lived in NY with Peter Ellis. She was born 1818 in NY.

Curiously enough, the 1850 and 1860 US Census for Peter Ellis show that he was living with his wife named Bathsheba, and this is one of the 3 names listed on another side of the same monument showing Urana and Betsey Ellis. However, this Bathsheba lived from 1802 until 1861 and apparently lived in NY. There is also a Find-A-Grave memorial for a Bathsheba Ellis buried in a Steuben Co., NY cemetery but without a headstone photo.

I am trying to tie all this together and was wondering if you had any information about any of them.

Many thanks in advance and take care!

Kindest regards,

Simeon Bond
Hey Don,
Thanks for the pic of Simeon Bonds grave stone. He is a relative of mine. I have some of his military records and wonder where you found his cause of death. My records indicate he died of complications of his ankle wound received at Fredricksburg. Any info would be appreciated.

Jonas Wood at Spfld. Cem.
Hi Mr. Bennett,
I added some photo's for Jonas Wood today from Springfield Cemetery. I happened to notice that you had created an entry for him too, thus he has two. I'm not sure how this is handled, but I wanted to contact you first. Thanks, Dannetta Getz (I'm curious, are you any relation to the late Dannetta Bennett Payne? She was my namesake).

Don, I am very appreciative for your updates to my great grandfather's memorial. You mention the possibility of transferring this memorial. If this can be done I would appreciate it. The Beach side of my family is the one I know the least about, so I have been doing more recent research.
Again Thank you

Thank you for the photo of David Gould.

I was never 100% sure that he was the correct David Gould until I saw that he was buried next to his sister, Susannah Webber.

Don, You once wrote to me that you had a photo of Lucy Mardana Everett Eldredge. I was wondering if I could get a copy of it. Jill had sent me a copy of the Eldredge genealogy and a phot would be a nice addition.

Thank you,

Thank you for locating my great grand parents.
You gave just enough information so that I am able to complete the blanks. They were Joseph Sayre Beach & (Mrs J. Beach) Elizabeth Ann Hughes (Beach). Also their daughter Della Beach was there.
They are in the Springfield Cemetery, E. Springfield,PA

Again Thank You for the work you do.

The photo of this stone indicates there is more writing at the base of it "Aged ..."

This is my ancestor and it is believed she lived to age 100 or very close to it. If the engraving at the bottom is revealed, it should verify her age.

Okay. This has been a new adventure for me. I just started two months ago and I just love doing it for people. A year ago Find A Grave was helpful in the locating of my husbands birth family. Hopefully I'll be taking many more pictures in the future!
