New Jersey Updates
Hi Mindy:

Thanks for posting all the updates. I find these when I am researching others in local papers. While these are not my relatives, I like to connect family members who are buried in different local cemeteries.

Merill cemetery
Hi Mindy,

I noticed your post on Linda's page. Maybe we can help each other. I have personally visited this cemetery only to discover it was very overtaken by trees, weeds, bugs, etc. I know that cemetery holds some secrets. My great great grandmother was Julia Merrill. Does the name sound familiar? I took some a few photos while I was there. I will try to get them posted. I have a tree on Ancestry: Salsman/Martin.

I notice that you show this as a record for Donald D. Rodgers and the headstone shows David D. Rodgers. I believe the headstone is the correct name, not Donald. Can you please correct this to reflect the name on the marker. David D. Rodgers was my paternal great uncle.

Thank you.

Thanks for the correction. Could you send me his obit. Would love to have it for my records. Had a good Christmas and a quiet new year. Weather has been the pits in south Texas, but better than Missouri, so shouldn't complain. Take care and enjoy the snow.

Thanks for the updates on the Gulick and Stryker families and for making them so quickly. You'll probably be hearing from me again as I am working on updating info and linking family members for Stryker family relatives (and others) buried at South Branch Reformed Church Cemetery.

I did not create the 2nd memorial, so cannot delete it. Please make the request to Findagrave to merge the two or ask the creator of the duplicate to delete theirs. FYI - the duplicate is in the wrong cemetery. Bovee and Victory are across the road from each and the sign for Victory is much larger so people often assume they are the same cemetery but they are not.

Thank you.

Thank you for the updates. I'm trying to find the burial of her husband and Margaret's father, ZaZa Merrell or Merrill. Are there cemetery books for this area? I'm thinking he should be in that same cemetery.

RE: Green Mount Cemetery
Yes, there are indeed a lot of famous and successful people buried in Green Mount Cemetery. I have some distant relatives buried there who were in the baking business in the 1800s and sold the business to the company that eventually became Nabisco. I have also found a number of graves there related to an effort I made to research folks for whom buildings at Johns Hopkins University (where I work) are named. And, of course there is the Caton family, which I was interested in because I grew up in Catonsville.

I, too, wish I had the time to photograph the whole cemetery. It is about a half hour from where I live and not on the way to anything, so I don't get there very often. Maybe when I retire...

In the meantime, I have spent a lot of time fulfilling photo requests for Loudon Park Cemetery, which is only a few miles from where I live. It is a huge cemetery with a lot of beautiful monuments and a fair number of famous people. I also have quite a few ancestors buried there. My goal is to eventually have memorials for all burials there, although photographing it all would probably take two lifetimes...

RE: Green Mount Cemetery
Mindy,

You're quite welcome. A while ago, after reading a book about the Caton sisters (daughters of Richard and Mary Carroll Caton) and also running across some Carroll family graves at New Cathedral Cemetery, I decided to try to figure out where the various members of the extended Carroll family were buried. I visited Green Mount some months ago to get photos of the Caton graves, but didn't get to the Harper/Pennington site until today.

I realized after I sent you a message that R.G. Harper Pennington is the son of William Clapham Pennington (which photo I also uploaded), who was married to Emily Harper, great-granddaughter of Charles Carroll. As you have already figured out, the R.G. stands for Robert Goodloe, which is the name of Emily's grand-father (who was active in national politics around the turn of the 19th century) and uncle. Some members of the family are buried in Green Mount and some in New Cathedral.

So, are you related to the Pennington's buried in Green Mount?

Regards,
Joe Canner
