This and several other tombstone applications was submitted by Mrs A. B. Cross (Annie Gay, daughter of Green B. Gay who was a brother to John M. Gay. Annie's mother was Angeline Harrell). All the applications lists Zion Cemetery but markers are in the Harrell Cemetery. Don't know if Zion was a prior name for this cemetery.

It was very possible that it was called that. I got the name of the cemetery from the cemetery book which I used as reference to find the names. I do not live or hail from Quitman County. If it was a church cemetery, it is very small. But what I have found out, military markers were placed by families, so anything goes with them. Folks move them to suit themselves.

|Linda Claire Robinson||Jewel and James Jordan|
Jewel and James only had one child, a son who is still living.
I have communicated with their son, and he has knowledge of everything that has been done. I prefer my work be on findagrave so no one has to pay to view it.
May I suggest that your cousin get in touch with Jewel and James son. If the cousin is a descendant of James and Jewel, then the cousin would have to be a grandchild or child of Jewel and James son.
My understanding is that knowledge has already been shared with James and Jewel's grandchildren.
Should you need to discuss further, I suggest you identify the cousin you mentioned, and their relationship with James and Jewel's child.

|Anita O. Kinard||Sondley (Sundley)|
Hi Cynthia! I reviewed your request for these graves at the Cannon Creek AARP cemetery and I don't believe there is going to be markers for these graves. I am sending the link to the surveys Ms. Donna Brummett did for them and I see no Sondley or Sundley listed at either (there is a new one and an old one). I hate when that happens! If I can be of further service to you please let me know. GOD Bless! Anita That link is: This is a FREE website.

Carlos died 40 years ago - a lot can happen in that time. It's too bad MANY of the markers are in poor shape. You, and your family, are certainly welcome. It was my pleasure to help. cb

I got all of 'em but Raymond. He's a Saturday pick. All the stones were in poor shape and covered in mud and scale from the irrigation water (reclaimed). As you can see on the back photos, they are pushed down by the tractor wheels as well. cb

Happy you are pleased. Surely didn't intend to cause such emotions. That stone is covered in mineral dposits from the irrigation water. I cleaned it but next week it will look bad again.
The other graves will have to wait for Saturday; I have the locations but had personal business in the office and did not have time today. cb

|Melanie Flowers||RE: John C Rotton Family|
Please feel free to use any of my photos. I don't mind at all. Unless I am mistaken, you may run across my name if you branch out very far in the Rotton history. My maiden name is Rotton. My father was James Franklin Rotton. His father was Asberry Chi Rotton. His father was Pleadius Rotton. His father was Agustus Rotton. (What I can remember off the top of my head since I am at work). Also, on my mother's side I am related to the Roughton's (a variation of Rotton). Happy Hunting! Melanie

I have added a copy of the obituary from the Atlanta Constitution and had to put it under "Grave", as there is no other category to place it under. Please request a photo of the marker again and when we find it, you will be notified.

I don't have a Jonas in my tree. My great grandmother was a Bird. Her ancestors were William Coffield Bird (1850-1917), James Wirter Fannin Bird (1825-1863), James Bird (1774-1855), Peter Bird (1758-1803), and Peter Bird (1716-1784). They lived in Early, Decatur, Hancock in GA and Halifax, NC. If you can make a connection let me know.
