Thanks for posting Edward's gravestone! May I post it with his military record on my site,, a grassroots military project to document the 37,000+ Vermonters who served in the Civil War?

Regards, Tom Ledoux, Webmaster, Vermont in the Civil War.

I've been trying online too for an obituary for Florence. Tried the Oregonian and Medford Tribune. Came across Dignity and Legacy sites too. The poem was very nice and makes me think she must have had children. Wallace's obituary was basically a death notice with place of burial. No survivors were mentioned.

RE: Harrington's
Nathan, THANK YOU so much for the beautiful pictures! I wish I could see that cemetery for myself. My daughters and I spent a day and a half in Portland the end of July. I had not made this connection yet or I would have had to see the graves for myself. Although, I probably would have been pushing my luck with the daughters as I did get them to spend part of a morning at the International Rose Test Garden. I LOVE cemeteries and do volunteer photography for cemeteries in my area. We did stop at the cemetery at Nehalem and it was interesting in how it is laid out. If you like cemeteries check it out some time. I didn't realize at the time I was there that I have family from both sides buried in/near Portland. Needless to say we SO enjoyed our trip. We spent four days on the coast and flew in and out of Portland. The scenery, roads and weather were so different than here in Nebraska. Bet it is beautiful this time of year! Again, I so appreciate how quick you were to get the photos! Let me know if I can ever do anything for you. Wendy

Hi back Nathan,
Thanks for the laugh of the day, you are so right on the Oregon Death Index's, I have had so much trouble matching so many of my families to these incorrect Index's, you have no idea! No I don't know if he won the lottery, he should have. I love your humor, it is great to have some fun. Yes, do not lose ANY sleep on this, the Obit shows his death in Canby, Oregon. Thank you for showing such interest in all the Grave sites you handle, our loved ones children do thank you for all you do. I noticed you did use Portland for his death place & not to make me right. I will not lose any sleep over this either.
Thanks again Nathan & all my best to you & yours,
Jan Kuykendall

RE: Neal Raymond Thompson
Hi Nathan,
Re: Neal Raymond Thompson, I did find his death place in 3 online places, 1. Oregon Death Index 1898-2008, 2. Social Security Death Index 1935-2014, 3. Web: Obituary Daily Times Index 1995 to Current, all on They all said that he died in Clackamas, Oregon, USA, his last residence was in 1996 was Oregon City, Clackamas, Oregon, USA, from 1930 & 1940 he lived in Canby, Clackamas, Oregon, USA. I understand about where Portland is. I just went over all of the sources I have on his death, the one which says it all is the SS. Name Neal R. Thompson
SSN 541-03-5209
Last Residence Portland, 97222, Clackamas, Oregon, USA
Born 31 Mar 1913
Died 29 Mar 2001
State (Year) SSN issued Oregon - Before 1951
This is where I got that he died in Portland, he lived mostly in Canby. I live in So California, I was born in Seattle, Wash.
If you want to say that he died in Canby, that is Ok with me, not all SS Death sources are correct. I do hope all else is good with my input for my Sister's 1st Cousin 1X removed.
Thank You,
Jan Kuykendall, Half Sister of Shirley Fish Penley.

Thank you for taking the family's marker photos. They look great! I know what you mean about lighting...if it's not glare, it's shadows or mud covering the markers. Thanks again, Steve

RE: Doppleb-Doeppleb
In the german language it's an O with two dots over it,called an umalat, depicting the OE.I found his naturalization record,he signed his named with the umalat over the O.I'm not sure what the pronunciation would have been.I see his second wife's headstone does not have the OE spelling.Volkmar went back to Germany in 1951 ,married her there in 1952 and they both came back to Oregon. It's interesting for sure !
