That was my reason for asking, his family. Your dates were incomplete and we couldn't find a memorial page for him. We then found a duplicate of your entry(I notified him). I'm trying to help his niece as well as the VVMF & CDB. We have over 6,000 to locate.

Re: Polly Carpi Godwin Gwin
Hi,

Just a follow-up. I know the Find A Grave guidelines say use the last married name, but I have found many women continue to use both if they were widows. I follow what the obituary indicates - if it uses both, I sometimes use both.

Since you specifically asked, I have changed it for you.

Thanks!

I love going to the cemetery and taking the photos. But when I find a mystery that is the icing on the cake. I to had a missing link and it was my great grandfather William Luther Wade, his family. I was disowned by my great aunt when I started my search over 30 years ago. I had a few clues before I was shut out by her, sad. The clues I had was his last name was Taylor, his mother maiden name was Capps, when she died her name was Bryant, and they were from Dunn, North Carolina. I even went there in 2008, and found nothing. I always wondered? did he just change his last name or did he take new everything. I got my answer a few months ago. I found his mother on Find A Grave, she had been put in shortly before, then everything started falling in place. His real name was William Luther Taylor. He even had a brother names after his father. Needless to say I was up all night.

If and when you come to Modesto let me know and we will get together. I have a copy of Modesto Citizens updated list. I will try to email it to you.

Kezia Curtis
Hello,
You added the memorial for Kezia Curtis and I noticed that some of your information came from The Saga of Old Tuolumne. I think the book may be wrong. Please tell me if you agree.

The pioneer talked about in the paragraph below can not be Kezia or her husband Bradner Curtis because they did not leave New York until 1850.
There is no way he was part of the mining company because it reached the mountains on March 20, 1848. Bradner and Kezia are buried in the Curtis vault in the IOOF cemetery. I am currently trying to find out the first name of the man being talked about below.

"The Saga of Old Tuolumne" by Edna Bryan Buckbee, The Press of the Pioneers, Inc., 1935, page 418 [note that Kezia is misidentified as her husband]:

"Kezia Darwin Curtis, a pioneer of '48, sleeps his last sleep in a splendid Granite vault - the only one on Cabuzet Hill. Curtis was a member of the second exploring party that set out from Monterey for the mines, in the spring of '48.

The mining company of which he was a member consisting of Messrs. Loveland, Swain, Harris, and some four others, reached the mountains on March 20, 1848. Fifteen miles south of the Merced River they made the first discovery of gold in the neighborhood, afterwards known as Burn's Diggings. But large numbers of Indians, tracking them, dangerously wounded two members of the party. Pioneer Curtis founded Curtisville, on Curtis' Creek, and mined successfully on Shaw's Flat and Tuttletown, also on the Calaveras River."

Hi Nancy,
Thank you for responding. I also appreciate you visiting my family's memorials. As you say, it only takes a moment to remember someone but it does mean a lot to many others.

Fogarty family-Stanislaus cty
Hi Nancy,
A while back you requested photo's of graves for the Fogarty family in Modesto Citizens Cemetery. Tonight I noticed you left a flower at the memorial of Harold Fogarty buried in Oakdale Citizens Cemetery. I must ask: Are you related to the Fogarty's of Stanislaus County? My reason for asking is: My great grandmother is Margaret Amelia (Fogarty) Cashman. Thank you and look forward to your response.
Your friend.

Hi, last week when I took photos of Dorothy and Leonard Draves headstones, I got side tracked with other names next to the Draves I knew and missed getting clifford's. I added the photo tonight so the claim of the request did not expire. I will go next weekend and get the photo of his headstone.

Hi and thanks
Matilda I. Parks was my Aunt. My mom's only sister.. As a kid I was always around my grandmother Isabell and my Aunt, who most time lived with my grandmother..
It is very thoughtful of you leaving flowers.. I am not much on line due to my illness. I am healing from a bad accident. So I am grateful you sending flowers. My Aunt was a wonderful person.. I wished you could had met her.

Hello ;-)

So happy to help ... that's exactly why I do this ... Like you saw he was a 82nd Airborne, 376 Parachute Field Artillery . He was KIA during the battle of the bulge .
Will help you to find more ;-) See this link

http://aad.archives.gov/aad/record-detail.jsp?dt=893&mtch=1&cat=all&tf=F&sc=24994,24995,24996,24998,24997,24993,24981,24983&q=19000144&bc=,sl,fd&rpp=10&pg=1&rid=1671958

you can also contact directly the cemetery at Henri Chapelle; Mrs Duflo Emilie from ABMC : dufloe@abmc.gov maybe she has more info . You must know also that here in Belgium we can adopt a grave ... a way to keep the soldier memory alive ... ask also to Mrs Duflo about the grave adoption and if the grave is already adopted ( pretty certain he is ). You can also contact my friend Mrs Ellen Peters who lives in Dallas TX : eeptx@sbcglobal.net she is the 505RCT secretary , the 376PFAB was a part of the 505 . She is in touch with historians and vétérans .

I'm going to San Diego End of June ; -) if my wife and I will have time ( just 4 days in Oceanside CA) we will visit LA ...

Patrick Fogarty photo request
Hi Nancy,
I am posting the photo for the Patrick Fogarty memorial this afternoon. The inscription on the headstone reads only "FATHER". I have double checked to make sure this is correct and this is the correct headstone for Patrick Fogarty. I have also posted pictures for Lottie, Honora, Tom & Dennis Fogarty. I spent a little extra time with this one making sure that I had the correct plots. Modesto Citizens Cemetery is sometimes confusing for me the way it is laid out.
Thanks,
Larry
