Story about her.
A story told about Elizabeth (Allen) Dixon; When Cornwallis's troops were fleeing from Greene's armies, they encamped a day and a night at Dixon's Mill. Cornwallis commandeered Simon Dixon's stone house, for his headquarters. About 20 of his sick and wounded soldiers D at this encampment, and were buried in the Cane Creek Cemetery. When the Lord General took over the Dixon house, the family took temporary quarters in an out - building near by. That night the good old Quaker lady, Mrs. Dixon (who was Elisabeth Allen) wanted a smoke. She remembered that she had left her pipe in the house. But when she went to retrieve it, a hard boiled sentry barred the way and refused permission to enter. 'But I want my pipe!" said Aunt Lib. "You can't have yer bloody pipe!" growled the sentry, "An' 'ow do I know yer not a bloody hound? Away am' begone, ye rebel!" The General heard the argument and came outside the house. He had recognized Mrs. Dixon's Voice. 'What's this! What's this!" He called to the sentry. "Trying to keep a - lady out of her own house! Of course she can have her pipe. Come on in, Mrs. Dixon, and get what you like."

RE: Lafayette Davis #52383109
Bobbie, You are right. Davis Cemetery is in Benton County just NE of Cross Timbers with an address of Cross Timbers. And, it does say on Lafayette's Death Certificate that he was buried in Davis Cemetery. The other thing I saw was that his dates on the death certificate are 26 Dec 1851 - 1 Feb 1935 -----everything matches except the year of birth (it is 1852 on the tombstone). And as I work I see this more often than I would like but different people may have given the dates for him for the dc and the headstone?? However when all the other dates match, his is an unusual name, and wife's name is the same, etc I think it is the same person.
The other thing I have just recently come across in another Hickory Co. cemetery is that "memorial stones" are set for persons who are buried elsewhere.
Mary E's death certificate matches her birth and death dates and it does say she is buried in Cross Timbers cemetery.
I really like all the links you have for Lafayette - I am so glad that Find-A-Grave is set for this info to be included.
Thank you. Have a great summer! Floydene

Lafayette Davis #52383109
I have photographed most of Cross Timbers Cemetery in Cross Timbers, Missouri and when working on a daughter of Lafayette saw that there was a link in the Davis Cemetery in Hickory County.
But, I have a picture of Lafayette and Mary E Davis' tombstone in the Cross Timbers Cemetery.
I wanted to let you know and see if you wanted to transfer the great memorial you have for Lafayette Davis to the Cross Timbers Cemetery and then I will add the picture to the memorial.
I have family info on Mary E and can do a memorial for her.
Let me know. Thank you. Floydene

Lisa B.
Maria Ines Silvas Lugo was my Grandmother
Hi Bobbie,

My name is Lisa and I have been searching online for my family for over 10 years. My mom actually found the obituary online for Maria Ines Silvas Lugo--her son, Luis Silvas Lugo is my father and my mother is Diana.

Do you have any other information about how I could get in touch with my father? If you did not personally know my grandmother, can you tell me how you obtained the obituary information so I can try to find my father again?

Thank you so much and I hope you take the time to help me.

Bonnie Stinson
Catalina S Sanchez

I was in the Rockport area this past month and checked out the Lamar Cemetery. I took several photos of the headstones.

When I checked to see if Catalina had a photo I noticed her birth date was incorrect. It should be January 18 not January 8. I thought you might like to correct the date.

RE: Mary Van Hook Purcell/Pursell
After asking around, I decided the best thing to do is ask Find A Grave to remove my Mary Purcell/Pursell. That should take care of it. Thank you!

RE: Mary Van Hook Purcell/Pursell
My ancestors changed name spellings like we change socks, I swear! If there's some way to do a merge, I'd be great with that, and, of course, Mary is yours. Let me know how you think we should handle it.

Thank You!
There is nothing like hitting a wall, and then stumbling upon a tiny bit of information, such as the caption on the photo of the headstone of Nancy Abagail (Arnott) Simmons, my 3rd Great-Grandmother. That tiny bit of information opens up so much more records and links to other family. So, again, Thank you, very much!

I have deleted the memorial I made and added my picture. Sorry for the duplication.
