Patty Bushman's book
Stephanie,
We have communicated a couple of times but it has been awhile.
The reason I'm emailing now is that I picked up both books by Patty Bushman. (Actually, I'm replacing my copies of "Indelible Tracings" and Indelible Images" which were ruined by water damage). Patricia was kind enough to send an extra copy of "Indelible Tracings" to give to someone who is interested in the 1961 team. Would you or someone you know be interested in receiving it? I just need an address and I'll take care of postage.
You can email me through Find A Grave or at semader01@yahoo.com.
Steve

Christine Mousseau
1961 US Figure Skating Team
Hi Stephanie, for the past 4 years I have been gathering information about the 1961 Skating team myself. My 12 year old daughter is in a member of the Cheshire Figure Skating Club in Keene, NH and 3 years old the club put on a skating show in memory of the skaters killed on the plane. Since then I have read Frozen in Time by Nikki Nichols and Indelible Tracings by Patricia Shelley Bushman. I also Indelible Images, the photo book by Bushman. I would love to share information about these wonderful people so if you are interested in doing so I would love to chat with you. You can reach me at mommousseau@yahoo.com anytime. Thank you so very much.

Dallas Larry "Larry" Pierce
He was the second child of Dallas and Nellie Pierce. He was raised in Indianapolis with his older sister, Jan and younger brother, Russell. He was coached by Daniel "Danny" Ryan (1929-1961). Danny Ryan wanted to make the Winter Club of Indianapolis a dance center and his first team was Larry Pierce and Marilyn Meeker. They won the Midwestern silver dance title and placed third at the 1958 US Championships. In 1959 they were the US silver dance champions. In 1960 Larry prepared for the skating season while simultaneously serving in the Marines. He and Marilyn placed second at the 1960 Nationals in Seattle and fifth at the 1960 Worlds in Vancouver. Seven weeks before the 1961 Nationals, Marilyn had an accident in practice and broke her ankle, eliminating her from competition for the season. Danny and Larry invited Diane Sherbloom (1942-1961) of Los Angeles to compete with him. After five weeks of training, Larry and Diane won the 1961 US dance title.
He attended Indiana University for two years.
Larry and Diane finished fourth at the North American Championships. He was 24 years old when killed on the plane crash. Also killed was his ice dance partner, Diane Sherbloom and his skating coach, Danny Ryan.

Re Edi and Jimmy Scholdan at Evergreen Cemetery, CO Springs
Hi Stephanie- Someone had requested images of the Scholdans to be included in their memorials, which I uploaded today. You may want to rearrange the images so their portraits are at the top of the memorial. Best, Matt

azura Blue
1961 World Team
Hi Stephanie,

I received a public message from Noel in AZ about how I got Rhode Lee's picture of her grave marker. Remember, her grave was left unmarked for over 40 years....He told me that you have done research on the crash and to contact you..

Former competive skater in New York....allowed to train with 84 & 88 Olympic and world teams. My coach skated with an knew all of the world team skaters....everyone wanted her not to retire from skating and would have been on the plane. She was to have won the 1958 Natioals Senior title...competition was stopped since she was about to beat Carol Heiss in figures...then she got all second placements...at the paris world's (she was the reigning US junior champion) she placed 9th after skating with pnemonia and high fever...was the first woman to do a double lutz at worlds. she had a triple salchow under her belt too. At the farewell dinner, the french judge gave a toast to the 1959 (next year's) world champion...was Carol Wanek....Carol Heiss and Peirre Brunet (Wanek's coach too) faces turned red...

If she didn't retire, would have been killed.

richard cancilla
DVDs
Hello,

Yes I did see them. What's funny is I am pretty sure that film was shot very near where we live. I could be wrong, but they appear to be on old Rt 40 long before that section became part of I70.

I wish I had seen that home movie when I was a teenager. It would have allowed me to see my parents as someone just like myself instead of authority figures.

I also would like you to know that your grandfather's drive and determination set an example for me that I followed all of my adult life. If it weren't for him, I doubt I'd be where I am now.
