RE: Philip Edward Chillman photo
That is awesome. I never knew what he looked like. He married my dad's gr-aunt Annette. They got divorced though. He was listed as an artist but, he was really a photographer and had his own shop in Philly. My dad, brother and I are always on the look out for some of his work at flea markets and antique shops. Thank you for the info.

Mary Ella Sollock Cook
Thanks for the photo of Mary Ella and John Wesley Cook. John Wesley was my great grandad. His son Charles Wesley, was my grandfather. My mother was Etha Cook Curtis. I am one of the "stewards" of half of my grandfathers old place over near Panther Creek in Keith. It has been an interesting process learning ‘Kinfolk 101"….This has been very helpful putting it all into prospective. I plan to visit England and trace the Sollock roots to the Old Mill near Dartmouth where they were from!

Greetings, Sandi.

As creator of this memorial, can you tell me where you found the photo of Mr. Garrett? Can you share a copy with me? I'm putting a database together for the bomb group to which Mr. Garrett belonged.

Any other info regarding his military history would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You. Michael

Kyle
Floyd Cemetery Grimes County
Hi Sandi,

My name is Kyle Jones and I am looking for the very small cemetery of the Floyd family. Here is a link to the one I am looking for in Grimes County.

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txgrimes/FloydCemetery.html

Do you know exactly where this is as I am a teacher and plan on making a trip to see this particular cemetery?
I see the descriptions of the location online, but have looked at maps, and can't seem to get a location. Can you point it out on a map and maybe send me a screen capture of it? Or, just a better explanation of its location. I just don't know exactly where to start.
The Elisha Floyd and Rhoda Ann Floyd in this small cemetery are my Great Great Grandparents. Elisha was the Grimes County Tax Assessor in 1850 to 1852. There supposedly a photo of him in the Grimes County courthouse in Anderson.
Also, I've been told that his son Andrew Floyd was also a Tax Assessor, but have been unable to find information on him. Andrew and his wife Lula gave birth to my Grandmother, Mrs. Lula Mary Floyd Jones.
I would love so much to visit this small cemetery. Please help. I live in Bryan, and it's not very far to visit. I am desperate for any help in locating this cemetery.
Thank you so much for your time and effort.

Kyle

Henry Colan Magee and Stacy A. Cotton Magee
I know you cover most of the Cemeteries in Grimes County, Texas and I was hoping you could help me find where and when my Great Grandfather, Henry Colan Magee and his wife Stacy A. Cotton Magee are buried and the year they died. On all my research they died in Grimes County, Texas - Henry Colan Magee about 1869, Stacy A. Cotton Magee about 1887.
If you could help me or point me in the right direction to get information, I would greatly appreciate your help.
Thanks, William McGee

RE: Denny P. Hadley
Sandi,

I think I see the mix-up.

I have some pages copied out of the book Historic Williamson County: Old Homes and Sites. I'm guessing that's where your info came from.

It says that Thomas and Mary's son was Joshua Hadley who was married to Hannah Holmes. It goes on to say that one of Joshua and Hannah's children was Denny Porterfield Hadley - the Denny who was born in 1797 and built Hadleywood/Green Pastures.

I noticed that, for some reason, I don't have Denny linked to Joshua and Hannah as his parents although I added all three of them myself. Guess I should do that.

Denny P. Hadley
Sandi,

You sent me a short bio that, I take it, you want me to add to Denny P. Hadley's memorial. You didn't say exactly.

The bio you sent says Denny's father died in 1781 and his mother died in 1780.

Denny wasn't born until 1797.

That year of birth is consistent with census records and is also what it says on the obelisk erected at the site of the cemetery he's buried in.

Also, Mary Thompson being born in 1730 really makes me think she couldn't have been his mother. Not the mother of this Denny P. Hadley anyway.

I'm not going to add the bio you sent to Denny P. Hadley's memorial as most of it doesn't seem to apply to him. Just thought I should tell you why.

Jerry Shelton's TX DC states he was abt 90 and died in Anderson, Grimes County, Tx in 1933. I believe the Fannie Shelton is the one in the 1910 & 1920 Census with a Jerry Shelton. I did not find a TX DC for Fannie but we know she died before 1933 as Jerry was listed as a widower when he died.

I found above 1880 Grimes County, Texas Census that may be the same or related Jerry Shelton with mother Rachel Shelton, mother-in-law Harriet Smith and others.

RE: Old Bethlehem Cemetery
I am researching all SHELTON surnames in the area to verify any unfound that are related.
There were two in the list you had w/o dates.
I found them via census and was able to determine they were not related but was wondering why all in the cemetery had no dates.

Will look and see if I saved what I found on the two I researched though and get back to you. At the time I was searching I think for a Nannie Shelton and turned out the one in Old Bethelhem was not the one I was looking for. I'll see if I saved the search as I put them in a mini tree and may have deleted it once I found they were not related.

That might help if you ever get by there to see if any if I can find the two I was researching in my notes.

Old Bethlehem Cemetery
Thanks for the feedback Sandi. There are two SHELTON members buried there according to the list and I think I did a photo request, but afterwards noticed all those interred have no dates or headstone photos, so assumed maybe the headstones were either moved or do not exist and made contact with you. Guess the church when it moved did not relocate the old burials to the new church, according to you note, right? What is the name of the new church cemetery? I might check it too for SHELTON relations if it is on Find A Grave.

Thanks for all you do. If you do later find there are some dates and headstones, you can email me direct or post a message.

Old Bethlehem Cemetery - Grimes County, Texas
Sandi, does this Old Bethlehem Cemetery have any headstones. It appears that the findagrave creation of the cemetery lists names of those interred without any dates for birth/death. Does that mean that the cemetery has no headstones or records of these 50 or so that are listed as interred there?

Thanks,
Lynda Lehmann-French

Col. Joshua Hadley
Thanks so much for your entry for Col. Joshua Hadley 1786-1845, esp. the 7/2/1845 Montgomery Patriot notice of his death. This helps considerably to narrow the date of his death. His will was dated 20 June 1845 Montgomery Co. TX and probated in that county 30 Sept 1845, p 89, and was subsequently transferred to Grimes Co. jurisdiction. It is now evident that he died late June 1845 -- certainly between 20 June and 2 July of 1845. From these details that you have provided, it seems probable that you too are a descendant of Col. Joshua, (??) my 4th great grandfather. Again, my gratitude for your efforts! No doubt you're aware -- if you are a descendant -- that the HADLEY line has been extensively researched by many fine researchers over an extended period of time; e.g., The Hadley Society's records as a prime example. Incidentally, Col. Joshua Hadley was born 1786 in Fayetteville, Cumberland Co. NC, son of Benjamin Hadley and his 1st wife Elizabeth King. Benjamin Hadley (b 1760 Cross Creek -- now Fayetteville -- Cumberland Co. NC, d 17 Feb 1830 Baldwin Co. AL, leaving his deathbed will of that date; he's buried in the Seven Miles Springs Cem. in Baldwin Co. AL. Benjamin's father was Capt. Thomas Hadley, b ca 1728 New Castle Co. Delaware, d 1 Sep 1781 Cumberland Co. NC; his mother was Mary Thompson, b 1730 Chester Co. PA, d 1795 Cumberland Co. NC. This is but a tiny sample of the extensive, well-documented genealogy available for this family. The life of Capt. Thomas Hadley, shot and killed by Tories, is especially interesting. Despite his long-standing Quaker heritage, Capt Thomas Hadley broke from that tradition to participate in the Rev. War. The Hadley Society has detailed biographical data on Capt. Thomas and his son Benjamin, especially concerning their Rev. War roles. Gloria Reck, Eureka, CA
