Darling Jefferson Cain 1849-1918
My great grandmother, Ella Elizabeth Carter, was married to DJ Cain for 5 years before his passing. She is buried in South Bend graveyard in Bamberg.
Ella's daughter, my Grandma Maud, remembered Mr. Cain as a Sheriff of Bamberg. Ella also attempted to get a military pension because Mr. Cain was a drummer boy in The Grand Army of The Confederacy Company A, Regiment B, by her recollection.

I am sure the correct name for this person was "Hallie Wilmont Kittrell". He lived on Snapdragon Lane in the Canaan community. I have been to his home many times as well as to the one across the street belong to his brother who is now deceased, leaving his widow, Lena Kittrell.
Please make the correction.

Chester Hardin
Hi Linda,
My name is Chloe Mietzel and I am a junior at Grossmont High School. My history teacher gave us an assignment about "Grossmont's Greatest Sacrifices" and I was given James C. Hardin, who is Chester's son. I was wondering if you had any information about the Hardin family or if there is anyone alive who is related to them that I could speak to? If you have any information, feel free to contact me at
Thank you for your time,
