RE: Prudence Uglow
Thanks for your swift response.
I started to look at the Euglows/Uglows because I thought the name to be quite unusual. However, the records in Cornwall suggest that there were lots of them, maybe not related but since the villages were so small at the times seen (and even now) they must have been related in some way.
I am hoping that the link to my family (mother's side) which is names Aldridge, many of whom originated in England any emigrated to America early last century, is true.
It would be great to get in touch with Michael Granoth.
Thanks again for your reply (and how nice to hjave someone "special" in your tree!)

Prudence Uglow
just a letter of thanks for posting such interesting and indeed useful information about Prudence Uglow and her family.
The Uglows became part of my family tree when Prudence's great great granddaughter married the cousin of my grandfather (Gertrude Betty Uglow (which appears to be spelt Euglow)) in 1947, in Hartford , Con.
I am in England and was really pleased to find addresses in Cornwall for Uglows in locations where we regularly spend holidays and my brother lived in Warbstow for some years. That's some added interest.
The story you have about Prudence is so very interesting. You must have some useful documents which tell you sich things.
Abyway, thanks again.

RE: Thank you so much!
Hi Letty,
You're welcome, I'm happy I could get the pictures for you! Just want to mention that there is a gravestone in between the Nixs and the Irvins...I can't make out a name, but I think it is for a child. I believe it says aged 3y 5m 1d. Just in case you might know from family records, who this might be. Also, if I added too many photos to any of the memorials, just let me know.

Alonza Cullison
Thank You very much for the headstone photo of Alonza and his wife. I see it was a little tricky to find since there was just initials on his and on Mary's was her middle name Daisy, the name she went by.
Thanks again for all your help.

You didn't steal them away, I saw them after I had gotten the others, glad you were there to get them. I am glad to help, thought it was funny that they didn't have a record of Alonzo. I guess they look for the exact name. I know it gets confusing between real names and whats inscribed on the headstones. Thanks for sharing.. good luck

I accidently found Alonzo Cullison. If you contact Catholic Cemeteries they will tell you they have no record. His headstone actually reads Captain A.P. Cullison

John S. Perry
Hi Letty. My name is Sherry Knipp Martin and I found where you had left flowers for John S. Perry and stated he was your Great Grandfather. John S. Perry's father was Wade Hampton Perry. In the 1850 census in Hamilton Co, IL Wade was living in the household of Edmund Nef (Nip,Nipp,Knipp) and Sarah (Sally) Coons Nef. Edmund and Sarah Knipp are my 2x Gr Grandparents. At the 1850 census Wade Perry is 17 and I believe he is the son of Sarah (Sally) Coons Knipp. Do you know who Wade Hampton Perrys are? Have you ever heard whisper of the names Nip, Nef, Ness, or Paschal associated w/ the Perry family? Is there anyone you know who does the Perry family tree that might be willing to correspond info w/ me? Thanks very much for reading this and any info you might be able to provide.
Sincerely....Sherry Martin

RE: Samuel Uglow
Hi Letty,

I'm glad that the picture was helpful. The stone next to Samuel's is for a Dorothy Wuennecke Mueller (1869-1895). I don't think there is any relationship of the stones in that area of the cemetery, though, since they seem to be individual graves of folks buried according to the year they died. I have been taking pictures at Forest Home all summer and have been transcribing the information for a website that publishes the transcriptions ( Since I am also a member of FindAGrave I check to see if any of my pictures match the photo requests or memorials. I am particularly interested in gravestones that are worn down and in Civil War veterans graves. Some of those stones are worn down so completely that they are illegible, but there was enough visible on Samuel Uglows that I thought I would ask to submit it. The picture I have is slightly more legible than the one I had to reduce to meet the FindAGrave requirements. I would be happy to send you the original if you would like it.

RE: Samuel Uglow 208th PA
Hi Letty,

Perfect! Thank you for the kindness of contacting me about the stone. I've added the photo to Samuel's biography.

Cemetery records and/or caretakers are not always dependable. I'm not cynical; I'm experienced. ;)

Best wishes,

RE: Samuel Uglow
Hi Letty,

I've added Samuel Uglow's grave picture to the memorial page. It is worn down and "Uglow" is barely visible, but is there along with the infantry unit he served in.

Samuel Uglow

I've been doing some work at Forest Home Cemetery in Forest Park, Illinois and believe I have come across Samuel Uglow's gravestone. It is quite worn, but you can make out Uglow and 208th PA Inf. I took a picture and would be happy to upload it. Then if you determine it is not the right one or prefer I remove the picture, I'll do that. Just let me know.
