And it's not a good feeling, Bruce. and it's true. In 1983, I researched my Logan family tree branch and dead-ended with the birth of one William Logan in Kentucky, 1804. Ten years later, I drove from Omaha to Henry County, Kentucky just to do some digging with my own eyes and two hands. In New Castle, I was informed the courthouse had burned to the ground 4 times in the past 200 years,"therefore resources are limited." Bummer. I joined up with Ancestry a couple years ago, hoping they may have accumulated a bit more data than I have. It's confusing because parents around 1800 rarely employed originality when naming their kids. There must be thousands of James', John's and William Logan's in your database, Bruce. I'm looking for the William that was born in Kentucky and migrated north to Johnson County, Indiana either with his parents or when he became a teen. My best clue is that my Logan's were tight with the Nathanial Pradian Tracy famiy of Kentucky. Apparently the Tracy'a migrated with the Logan's. I don't know what is so appealing about Johnson County, Indiana but checking the census and tax records there were a whole bunch of Logan's mingling with Tracy's... Oh, and with the Tanner family, too. My William Logan courted and married Elizabeth Malinda Tracy, and doggone if a generation later, his son, James Harvey Logan, did the same thing -- courted and married Mary Josephine Tracy. And then a few of the Logan's with their women, loaded the ox-carts and headed to southwestern Iowa -- good land with 12-inches of top soil. Farming Heaven, for sure! Maybe this information will turn on a light for you. I'd be pickled tink if it did. Thanks, in advance, for anything you can do. Gerald Logan d/b/a Gerald MacLennon

Small world, You are a pretty close relation with My wife. Her ggg grand parents are James & Matilda (Thomas) Lowder. That would make both of your gggg grand parents James D & Sabina (Penland) Thomas. I have a tree on Ancestry that I have been working on for a while. Do you have a tree at Ancestry.com?

Bruce, Thank you for your reply. My wife's mother is an Underwood & I have been researching her family. I have been to the Granny Thomas Cemetery a few times, as a lot of her family are buried there. My wife's great grand father William Paul Underwood & her gg grandparents William Mathew &
Silbina Ann Sebby (Lowder) Underwood are buried there. Her grand parents Charles Lewis & Ollie Mae (Howard) Underwood are buried Eggers Big White Oak Cemetery. All the Cemeteries in the area all seem to be related. We are leaving tomorrow for her family reunion in Greenup. When we get back I will take you up on your invitation of information exchange. I am looking forward to it.

Bruce, by any chance are you the person that originally registered Granny Thomas Cemetery on Find A Grave? The reason I ask is because it sets at the County Line between Greenup & Lewis County, however it is on Lewis County side. I have been trying to figure out how to let someone know, so it could be corrected.

|John S||Robert Riley Logan|
I noticed on Robert Riley Logan's memorial that his civil war uniform is on display at the Clay County Historical Society. I contacted a member there and they are not familiar. I've been researching the 22nd Kentucky Infantry for the past two years in hopes of creating a book. I would very much like to see a photograph of Mr. Logan's uniform. Do you happen to know whom I should contact to arrange that? This has special meaning to me since Mr. Logan was in the same company as my ancestors, meaning the uniform would have been the same. I would be very grateful for any information to his uniform or writings during the war.

James Death Certificate says his parents were Ned Logan and Lizzie Smith not Edward Logan and Minerva Thomas?

I am Mary "Missy" Papa Logan's granddaughter, Sue's oldest daughter. Regina (sister) sent me this link and it is very interesting of all the information that you have put in the data base. Since papa passed we seemed to have lost touch with all of the family. There is not a day that goes by that he is not in my thoughts. Thanks for doing all of this.
