As this soldier's gr-gr-granddaughter I appreciate your photos and certificate that you added to this web site. It honors this young man's sacrifice. Where or how did you locate his interment certificate? I would like to follow more trails to learn more about Ransom.
Yours sincerely, Catherine Billings-Ouellette

RE: Thank you
Daniel,

The John Murphy I am looking for is the one buried in E 5559, killed 1 Sept 64 at Jonesboro.

I am aware of 3 more 15th INF men who are buried in Marietta who either died of wounds or of illness:

Coller, Jacob, 12 SEP 64, PVT, CO H, 1st BN, Field Hospital (NFD)MARIETTA NATIONAL CEMETERY, SEC G, SITE 7900 (13 SEP 1964)

Knapp, Edwin, 25 SEP 64, PVT, CO H, 1st BN, Atlanta MARIETTA NATIONAL CEMETERY, SEC G, SITE 7895

Given, George 15 AUG 1864, PVT, A CO, 3rd BN, Hospital 20th Army Corps PVT US ARMY CIVIL WAR DATE OF DEATH: 08/15/1864 MARIETTA NATIONAL CEMETERY BURIED AT: SECTION A SITE 381

My original quest began with a list of names from the Battle Monument at West Point, on which the above John Murphy is inscribed. Digging much deeper I reviewed the regimental returns at the National Archives, cemetery listings in the various military cemeteries from the era, and Civil War era after action reports. I found many more men who died in the service of the Union, if not directly KIA or DOW, but of illness during the war and in Reconstruction, and as POWs at Andersonville and Danville, VA. This has been a very rewarding project so far.

Thank you
Daniel,

Please excuse the delay in expressing my gratitude to you for the recent addition of the many pictures at Marietta. We had a dear friend living in Norfolk, VA pass away and we were busy helping the family.

Thank you very much!

WOW!!!
Thank you so much for the effort you put into this request. You are amazing!! I had no idea you would respond so quickly. This is perfect. It does not even look like the same headstone!!! Did you take some cleaner to it? If you did, I am eternally grateful. And if you didn't I am still eternally grateful. I plan to come there next summer to put a confederate veteran marker on his head stone. He was a very brave solider . Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Maybe we can hook up and I can take you out to lunch or dinner. BTW, I was born and raised in Lithia Springs. Again, thank you. Debbie Ayres McKewen

Marker request - Isaac Trussel
Thank you for offering to photograph the marker of my great-great-grandfather. I'm not quite sure how his name ended up on Find-A-Grave if he's not listed in the Marietta Cemetery register, but I'm glad to at least have the name of the cemetery. Although he is most likely one of the "unknowns" at Marietta, I like to think he is definitely there and is at peace. The cemetery looks like a beautiful spot.

Daniel,

Wow, I am impressed. I only requested the picture yesterday. Thank you so much. It looks to be a huge cemetery. I know it must have taken some time to walk the cemetery and then take the photo. I can't Thank You enough. This is my husband's gg grandfather and I have been trying to find him for so long.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you have a copy of his Interment Form?

I appreciate all your time and effort to fulfill my request. You did a wonderful job.

Sincerely,

Deborah

I HAV ALREADY CREATED THEM. THE ORIGINAL SPELLING OF THE SURNAME HAS 2-T'S BUT SOME DROPPED 1-T. THEN AGAIN, IT WAS MISSPELLED WITH ONE-T AND NEVER CORRECTED. WE RUN INTO THIS A LOT.
THANKS,
DEB
