Larry Coffman
Biography error
Dear Marta

The biography of Edna Purviance was excellent.

There is one little error, perhaps typo:

Edna was not born in Paradise Alley, but in Paradise Valley

Sincerely,

Larry Coffman

Jack Pickford
Jack Pickford did not die from syphilis!!! He died from multiple neuritis -- do you know what that is? It's a horrible auto-immune disease much like MS or ALS. I think it is absolutely outrageous that no one bothers to check facts before putting that hideous rumor out there -- show me the doctor's report that says he ever had syphilis if you're going to make such a claim. He was already experiencing difficult walking from the disease by 1926 when it first began attacking him, and this is what ultimately caused his death. That is what is on his death certificate -- which is the only verifiable source one should be referencing. His grand nieces are and their children are still living you know. Think and research before repeating gossip from almost a hundred years ago.

Olive Thomas
Please stop perpetuating this rumor started by Flo Ziegfeld of Olive drinking Jack's medication for STD. Her death was ruled accidental and even at the time it was said by the police and doctors attending that she drank a cleaning solution left in the medicine cabinet by the maid at The Ritz. This was a common mistake during this time, the tablets looked identical to aspirin and sleeping pills. Mercury laden treatments for syphilis during this time were in the form of salve (Blue Ointment) which could not be ingested. There was a huge public health push to get the public to stop putting mercury-laden cleaning tablets in the medicine cabinet because of the common deadly mistake.

Embedded links within bio
I would like to know how to embed links (Memorial#) within a bio. A great way to circumvent the hierarchical structure of Find A Grave. Member #48015230

Lionel Barrymore
Marta,
You might want to link in Lionel Barrymore's first wife Doris Marie Rankin (Mortimer) to his memorial. Memorial # 119371367. They were married from 1904-1922 and she is the mother of his daughters Mary and Ethel.
Please let me know if you need add'l information.
Abby

June Mathis
Marta,
Thanks for the nice bio on June Mathis. She's my 3rd cousin once removed! You might want to double check on the part about being with her mother when she died. Her mother was Virginia Mathis who died in 1922. Even though she exclaimed "Oh mother..." when she dying, I believe she was actually with her grandmother, Emily Hawkes.

Wallace Reid
Suggestions for improving Mr. Reid's bio are in parentheses:

but his real love was(but his real loves were) writing and directing. But(,) because of his striking good looks and athletic abilities, he was put before the camera. For more than a decade(Over a period of more than a decade) he appeared in over(more than) a dozen films for many studios and quickly became a matinee idol. In 1913 Wally married Dorothy Davenport, an actress. She was only seventee(seventeen), but already a veteran of the stage and screen. Their marriage was a happy one,(delete comma) and a son was born in 1917 named Wallace Reid, Jr. They also adopted a girl, Betty, in 1922. While making "The Valley of Giants" in Oregon in 1919, Wally was involved in a train accident and severely injured. The doctors gave him morphine to deal with his excruiating (excruciating) pain. After he was released from the hospital, he was still in alot (a lot) of pain,
On January 18, 1923, Wallace Reid died in his wife's arms. She never remarried. For the rest of her life Dorothy campaigned for the increased awareness of drug addiction,(insert a space here)and the terrible toll it takes on families and society. (bio by: Marta Monk)

Re: Jack, Mary, Lottie Pickford
Hi Marta,
Good job on the Pickford family. They were born John, Gladys and Charlotte Smith. [John and Charlotte after their parents. I don't know who Gladys was named after, if she was named after anyone.] Do you think that their birth names should be added to their biographies?
I send you two urls of "Mary Pickford in Toronto interest."

Re: Louise Brooks.

You did a good bio on Louise Brooks - I once talked with Kenneth Tynnan about Louise, he always called her Lulu. He had interviewed her a number of times he thought it sad she had never found someone to share her life with, but he said she had a wicked sense of humour; but Kenneth did like her.

Take Care...

Paul.

LIONEL BARRYMORE
Did you know that on LIONEL BARRYMORE you listed his birthday as having been
APRIL 12th on the vitals and then wrote that it was
APRIL 28th as being his birthday in the bio you created ?

I believe that APRIL 28th is generally considered to have been the correct date. I thought that you might want to correct it.

Thanks...........

Hi Marta
I think you disappeared for awhile cause I sure searched for you. Hope you're doing well. Are you still in England?

Things are good here - recovering from Hurricane Ike. We got hit hard. No more hurricanes for Texas for a long long time. I hope.

Do you have my email address?

A small error ...
You wrote,
"...The end came in January 1837 when was found dead in her home in due to starvation."

By the way, I read your entree on Olive Thomas Pickford. It was sad, but fascinating. I assumed she was sister-in-law to Mary Pickford. Great work, Marta.
