RE: Zebulon Thomas
After a little more checking, I believe there was not a family connection. Your Zebulon had for parents the couple I had as far as I can find.

The John Richard Thomas is confirmed as definitely my great-great grandfather. After a further look at some of the census reports from other ancestry.com members it seems some of them have John Richard (born in Wales) - married to Sarah Jane Llewlyn (also born in Wales)confused with a Richard Thomas-married to a Mary.

Would this maybe be where the mistake in entry originated?

Although he might not have been kin it was great reading about Zebulon and your tribute to him.

Messaging back and forth like this is what makes find a grave and ancestry.com work.

Zebulon Thomas
Just checking some links again and wanted to verify Zebulon's tree if it agrees with mine.

Do you have him as the son of Benjamin B. Thomas 1788-1853 and Mary Short 17989-1850.

I also have him as brother of John Richard Thomas 1819-1886 who was killed by an Angus bull near New Cambria, Mo. and buried in the Brush Creek Cemetery in Macon County, Mo.

Zebulon Thomas-Hampton National Cemetery
Just saying hello.
This week I was working some on the Thomas branch of my family tree through my grandmother, Irene Kathryn Thomas.

I saw your note on Zebulon's memorial and decided to say hello.

I never could keep the # cousin and the # times removed like some can, so I like the "Show Relationship To Me" feature on each person's profile page at ancestry.com

Using it it says Zebulon was my 2nd great grand uncle.
