The James Bowies in New York

Thanks so much for all your work on Find A Grave; what a big help!

You have Alice L _____ as the wife of James Bowie I and the mother of James Bowie II. In 1940, according to the census (Deposit, Broome, NY, Sheet 15A), James Ist was married to Jeannie _____, born abt 1874, died?. According to the Nolan Family Tree on ancestry, Jeannie's maiden name was Buchanan, and she was the mother of James II.

Thatís my (current) story!

I wanted you to know that I added a photo of Msgr. Parnassus's grave marker and you may want to reorganize the photos there so that a photo of him shows first, then a marker as only 3 photos show without opening it all up. A suggestion. I added my photo because it was a closer shot.

Your welcome. Actually, I was there yesterday to do a "snow check" and decided to make use of my visit. Random luck that I had those! Will look for Eugene on purpose on my next trip.
Take care!

John Vanbarager
John VANBARAGER, East Canaan Cemetery, Windsor, Broome County, NY.
Date of death on grave is 1889, not 1869. Birth year becomes 1821 instead of 1801, based on statement on grave "age 68". Do you have any information on other Vanbaragers, especially Andrew?

Palmer McClure
There are several articles about Palmer in the Fort Collins Weekly Courier. One about his death (dated December 19, 1913, page 1) and one about his daughter, Mrs. Holland and her four children visiting him from Butte Montana(dated July 29, 1903). If you are unable to locate these articles, let me know and I will try to forward them to you. I found these articles by typing in "Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection".

I have linked Margaret and Walter McClure to their son, Palmer McClure, memorial #142202377. I was wondering if you are related to the McClure family. If so, would you like me to transfer Palmer's memorial to you ?

Douglas James Stiles
Hi John:
I have as copy of the marriage certificate of My great grandfather James H. Stiles and Mary Emma Cox dated July 8, 1894 and James parents are listed as Charles P. Stiles and Thirza J. Beebe. I would be more than happy to get a copy to you. I believe that Thirza was the daughter of Cyrus Horace Beebe and Nancy Jennings Beebe. I may have the genealogical family form for Cyrus and Nancy in my records. I'll have to look for it. I do remember that Cyrus and Nancy are also buried I'm Oakwood Cemetary.

This is my great grandfather. I am wondering if there are any records at the cemetery that would give me the names of his mother and father and where in Germany they came from. Also any information about Mary, his wife.

I do not have any living relatives that could help me with this.

Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Thank you. Abby Hartman

Hi Dan,

I tried your email but no response. Is it still good?

I have been researching William H. Smith (alias for William Nathaniel Woodard) who was a judge in Nelson Co., North Dakota and is buried in the Lakota Cemetery there.
You created a memorial page for him and his first wife, Louise Oakley. There Find A Grave memorial numbers are:
William: # 41146983
Louise: # 41727724

My main interest is in William's second wife, Jane A. Thompson, but the connections between all the families being vague has piqued my attention .

I contacted the Lakota Cemetery and they, with the help of the local funeral home, found the grave registration for William but nothing for Louise. I also asked them to see if Jane, William's second wife, was buried there as her death notice suggested. They did find that Jane is buried next to William. I haven't created a memorial entry for Jane but plan to do so soon.

Do you have any other information that would suggest or show that Louise Oakley is buried in the Lakota Cemetery? Or, was that speculation based on some of the anecdotal info in the Woodard family history?

If you would like you could transfer the memorials for William and Louise to me unless you have a connection to these people.

Thank you,
Dan Harvey

Abiathar Matteson

I've been looking for something that would link Benjamin Franklin Matteson, Find A Grave Memorial# 85969354, and Spicer W. Matteson, Find A Grave Memorial# 45360012, to their father Abiathar, Find A Grave Memorial# 45359968. But have not had much luck.

All I've been able to turn up has been the 1850 census with Abiathar and his wife Huldah and their children Philander and Allen.

Do you have anything that would help?

Charles Decatur Seymour

Hello again,

Did some more research on the Seymour family.

Charles Decatur Seymour 1823-1894 # 107864178 is not your step-great-grandfather.

You are looking for "Charles Decatur Seymour" born 8 Mar 1847 in Cannonville, NY who was the son of Willet Seymour 1805-1896 and Mary Goodrich 1814-1897 , grandson of William Seymour Jr. 1785-1827 and Dorothy Lord 1788-1866 and nephew of Charles Decatur Seymour 1823-1894 # 107864178 (the memorial I created).

Let me know if that sounds right to you and good luck in finding the right Charles Decatur Seymour Ingrid.

Charles Seymour
Hi, you send me the correction request :
"Charles father is Willet Seymour #107865768 and his mother is Mary "Polly" Goodrich Seymour # 107865378 ... you have his grandparents listed as his parents".

The problem is that Charles Decatur Seymour was born 1823 Mary was born 1814 so she would have been nine years old when she gave birth to Charles.

Willet Seymour was the oldest brother of Charles, not his father.
