James Wilburn Burnett
Cathy, thank you so much for all you do. I have been working on James Wilburn Burnett. It has been frustrating because his father died 2 years before he did and there are other James Wilburn Burnetts who live in Texas. The one who is father of James Fred, Henry O, & Dorothy Leona Burnett was not married to Lucille Larue Dodson. He was married to Alma Thetus McNeely. Lucille's James Wilburn was 38 years old when one of their sons was born in 1925. Alma's James was 47 in 1925. Alma or Thetus is on all every census record with James until 1940. On the 1930 census record with Lucille, she is listed as a widow. James did not die until 1935. He was also born in Whitney, Hill, Texas.
Have a great day.

Hi Cathy--Well, you've had a long wait for these photos! Your request was in long before I had even heard of Find A Grave. I also took photos and added pages for David Earl and Dorothy Clark
#169949637. I have a photo of all four markers together, but did not post it since I don't know if they are related. If you would like that additional photo added to the memorial pages, let me know. Peggy (Texas)

Files Valley Cemetery
You are receiving this note because you are a FindAGrave Contributor with ties to the Files Valley Cemetery near Itasca, TX. By ties, I mean that you created memorials, maintain memorials, added photos and/or notes to memorials in that cemetery. After reading below, if you do not wish to remain on this list, please reply to, asking to be removed and it will be done immediately. Currently there are 84 Contributors on the list.

I was raised in the small community 5 mi. east of Itasca called Files Valley.
I attended elementary school there through 1952 and my parents ran the grocery store. There are still folks living there but the main thing still there is the Files Valley Cemetery.

Recently, two events occurred that that have a significant impact on the future of the cemetery.
1) The loss of Kenneth Stufflebeme, the long time Trustee of the Trust fund set up before 1992 by my Dad (Robert McEver), Aunt (Annie Mae McEver McMillan), Joe Price and others.
2) The bridge across the creek to the cemetery was washed away during recent flooding of the Files Valley Creek. There is currently no access to the cemetery for visiting or mowing, etc.

I wish to express my deepest sympathies to Kenneth’s wife Edwina along with sons Mike & Jim. The loss of Kenneth’s role with the cemetery, while significant, is nothing compared to the family’s loss.

Living in Houston makes it difficult for me to evaluate what options exist for dealing with these issues. I do know that there are some actions already underway to address problems. I have the name of another Trustee but I have been unable to locate contact info. I also understand that another Files Valley resident, Mark Wood, is working on getting a bridge across the creek in another location that would provide access to the cemetery. The Hill County Commissioner for that precinct has confirmed that, because the cemetery and access road is on private property, the County will not provide any funds for reestablishing access. The Files Valley Cemetery Trust Fund along with other private parties with interest in preserving the cemetery may have to provide funding. Any payment out of the Trust Fund will jeopardize the ability to continue maintenance, mowing, etc.

If you or anyone you know has information that would help us in sorting out these issues, please email me at or call 713-252-7222.

As my profile indicates, I, along with others on this list, have a detailed knowledge of this cemetery. Out of the 426 memorials currently noted, there are 24 memorials with no markers. I am very confident that all of the markers there have been photographed meaning that there are 24 unmarked graves or some memorials have been placed in the wrong cemetery. If you maintain a memorial without a tombstone icon, especially if the memorial has been added in the last few years, please check your source info to confirm that you have the correct cemetery.

Finally, I have a plot map created from Google image. It cannot be posted on the FindAGrave site because of copyright issues but it does have useful detail. I will provide it for your personal use if you provide me with your email address.

Thank you for reading this lengthy note. There is much going on.

RE: Shelleys
This information is wonderful because I have sort of been at a dead-end with this. Robert and Sarah Jane also had a little boy who died early. What do you know about the son who lived? Didn't he go to Texas? Do you have any photos of any of them? I am taking it that the Shelley family used to live in Pickens and Gilmer County. My e-mail address is Thanks so much.

Hi. I just noticed that you have left memorials for Joe and Minnie Wheeler Gartrell on this site, and that Minnie's mother was a Shelley. I did not know this. I am wondering if Minnie's brother, Robert Shelley, was married to Sarah Jane Gartrell, who died in the 1890s in Gilmer County, GA. I have been trying to find some of the descendants of Joe and Minnie. I am a Gartrell descendant. Thanks, Tim

I recently confirmed that Bertha Cribley is buried at Seaman Cemetery and secured her plot location. However, I was not able to find a marker to photograph.

Hi Cathy, I tried to locate the headstone for Leo Jeanbart. I was unsuccessful however, I added a picture of the plot next to his wife in case you were interested.
Happy hunting, Lori

Could the birth year be wrong on the headstone? As everythng else matches for a Daniel H. Ellis the son of Daniel W. and Amanda Ellis at Whitney Memorial Park. If you think so can we can a statement that the date might be incorrect.

You need to re-word you message, as Edgar is the husband of Margaret. Edgar and Margaret are the parents of Elmer. Elmer might have been married to Parsons, but I have found no record of that.

Frank Rose Memorial
Hi, Cathy:

I just uploaded a couple of pictures for Frank C Rose. On the other side of the larger Rose marker was a gravestone for Jennie Stone - Find A Grave# 24233968. Not sure if they related, but thought you may be interested.

Just FYI, I have added burial photos to this memorial and I noticed the year of death differs from the memorial. I do not know which is correct.

I'm being asked to change last name on her memorial from Porter to Thompson even though she is buried with her first husband with no reference to Thompson on the marker.
It makes sense because of the name on her death certificate. I can add info to memorial explaining difference.

What do you think?

Link to spouse for George Thompson
I did some research on this memorial.
I found her death certificate as a Thompson with info that she was living in Hillsboro. It was informed by Geroge Thompson. I searched Find A Grave for him in Hill County with a death date after 1967 (her death date) and found your guy.
If you agree, please approve the edit I sent you.
Regards and thanks for your work on FindAGrave

Jorays, Hugs, etc.
Thanks for linking Frank Joray to his mother, Seraphine. I am not related to this family, but am interested in Buena Vista County. I have a new website for this county,
and among the items concerning the Joray family is an abstracted copy of Seraphine's Civil War widow's file. The Hugs are mentioned in that. There is also an obit for Seraphine in the obit section.

Ezra Aaron Feldkamp
Cathy - I contacted you several weeks ago regarding the burial site of Ezra Aaron Feldkamp (1898-1958). As I mentioned, Ezra was buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Chelsea, Michigan not in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Manchester. Ezra's Find A Grave memorial in Chelsea is #43663892. You can see a photo of his grave marker at this site. Please remove the memorial (#13476751) listed in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Manchester. Thank You for looking into this correction.

W. A. Gilmore
Re Memorial # 7044289 for W. A. Gilmore in Bethlehem Cemetery, Whitney, TX: The year of his death is 1918, not 1910. If you look closely at the photo, you can see the date there. This is my grandfather, William Appleton Gilmore. If you would add his complete name in a note, it would be appreciated.

Thanks for all the wonderful work that you do for so many families. I helped catalog a cemetery with my high school history club. I was about 17 and there were a good handful of people working at it. It was hard on the knees and the back even at that age. I can't imagine the amount of time you have dedicated to this work. I hope that I will be able to contribute to the cause when I retire.

Thanks again!

Is there a problem, especially regarding his first wife and son?

Infant Gilboe / Holy Cross, Detroit, MI
I am prepping for photo requests at Holy Cross. Downriver Genealogical Society did a 10 year project transcribing all Holy Cross records into their own books.

In these books I found 'Baby William Gilboe' DOD JUL 26, 1915----Sec H Lot 72----no marker.

This seems like the same infant, but you have listed as infant daughter. Do you think this is the child you are looking for? Could they be twins?

Either way, my guess is there is NO headstone, which is very common for children that did not live very long.

Please advise
