John Butterfield
Nick:

I am a historian who is considered the expert (humbly) by the National Park Service, the Arizona Historical Society, the Oregon-California Trails Association, for a recent Smithsonian sponsored exhibit presentation, as well as others, concerning the history of John Butterfield's Overland Mail Company. I have recently been asked by the National Park Service to prepare interpretive markers for a historic Butterfield site in Arizona. I am also the author of "The Butterfield Trail and Overland Mail Company in Arizona, 1858-1861."
I am currently involved with writing a number of articles for Desert Tracks and the Overland Journal. An article I have authored will be in the February issue of the Overland Journal. I am in the final stages of editing the article for the editor.
A bill is in Congress to make the Butterfield Trail a National Historic Trail. The bill will probably be voted on in the second quarter of next year. Part of my work is in the support literature for this bill.
The Find a Grave site is very important, as many use it as a reference. In my forty-five years of research, I have found many references for John Butterfield Sr. and have never found a definitive primary source reference for his middle name being "Warren." On the Find a Grave site you have his name as "John Warren Butterfield." Can you provide me with a primary source reference for this? This is very important if his middle name was indeed "Warren" I would like to include it in my articles.

Quisling
Please note, Vidkun Quisling was not born in the ancient fortress of Akerhus, Norway, but died there by firing squad.
He was born in Fyresdal, in the district of Telemark.
