RE: # 40288756
I have created three John S. Combs. The best way to get an edit done is to go to John's memorial page and click on the "edit" button on the top right. Then click on family members and then put in Astor's Find A Grave number in the father's block. Thanks, Rhonda

RE: Howington graves
The Howington graves are in the first part of the cemetery , third lot on the right. The graves in that lot are Guard Howington, his two wives, Bertha and Autumn, two of his daughters Evelyn Damron and Kathleen Webb and their husbands, a damron baby, two Powers babies and an unmarked grave. at one time there was an aluminum marker there that said Brown. It is recorded that Dorothy Carol Damron Hall is buried there and this is incorrect. She is buried in the Hall family Cemetery in Fleming, Ky.Thanks

RE: Howington graves
Most people do not consider this as being two cemeteries. The older cemetery was the Potter Family Cemetery. Later, Beth Elkhorn which owned the adjacent land sold grave plots to other family. Some of these are linked to the Potter Family.I visited this cemetery today and have added pictures of those buried in the Howington plot. Thanks Betty Hall

Ebenezer Methodist Church
Donna, Hello. I have a photo request for the above church but I can't figure out exactly where the cemetery is. Do you have an exact address for this since you have taken pictures here. I live in Aston, PA and it should be a problem for me to photograph.
Thanks so much,
Debbie (Gibson) Evans

Donna, if you can email me (rbencoach@gmail.com), I have copies of both pensions for you. You'll see why he was mad about the flag in the portrait! - Rosanna

RE: Joseph Hall (husband of Polly Combs)
Donna, I sent your message and links to Polly's and Joseph's pages, to my aunt who gave me Polly's photo. She was very glad to see that other members of the family were enjoying it, and was also glad to see Joseph's photo.

RE: Joseph Hall (husband of Polly Combs)
I bet he was upset. I ordered his pension application and her widow's pension application from the KY state archives. He was writing normally until the last question, which asked if he had ever sworn an oath of allegiance to the United States, and when and under what circumstance. His writing then becomes very large, dark and forceful. "April 1865. Surrendered. Forced to." A transcription just can't relay the personality in his writing in that one line of the application. I'll have to look for my copies. When I got them, back in the days of dial-up internet, not today's information, I was about 95% sure that they were "my" Joseph and Polly. Bet I can confirm it now with the online sources.
Thanks again for finding and posting his picture!
Rosanna

Joseph Hall (husband of Polly Combs)
Donna, Thanks so much for adding the drawing of Joseph Hall. I'd love to know where you found it and any history you have on this couple. (I had previously provided the photo of his wife, Polly Combs Hall, which is in my possession, and came down to me from my grandmother, Rosa Lee Hall Seifert. Polly and Joseph were my gg-grandparents.) I'm also curious about the artwork of the American flag. Wasn't he a county judge? I'd found a copy of confederate pension application that I'm pretty sure was his (and Polly's subsequent widow's application), and in the application he sounded like he was still mad about the war over 40 years later!
best wishes,
Rosanna Bencoach (near Richmond VA)

RE: Hall
Hi Donna,

Thanks for getting back with me. My mother was Rayma Sue Hall. Daughter of Irving and Claudia. I never got to meet my grandfather. He passed in 1971 and I was born in 1973. I was the youngest grandchild. My mother is also buried in Fisty. I still have one aunt the lives in Kentucky. Mary Jean Ritchie. She lives just above Clear Creek. Not to far from my grandparents home that still stands. She was married to Cullen Ritchie who is also buried in Fisty. I have some family pictures if you are interested. I know I have one of Irving's father. I can look through them and see what else I have. My mother left me a few photos. I started doing research on both sides of my family. Grannie Claudia was a Ritchie (which you probably know). My dad's family is from Virginia. My grandmother (my dad's mother) is also a Ritchie. Its very interesting. :-). But she was born in Johnson City, Tennessee.

There is a Webb Cemetery in Mayking, KY about 35-40 miles from Hazard in Letcher Co. Do you think that might be it?

Yes I saw where you said he is buried in Webb Cemetery. I am having a hard time finding that cemetery online also. I'll keep searching.

Do you have the correct dates for Austin and are the dates for Zachariah correct?
