|Elaine Roberts||Monroe Dawkins|
I grew up in Union, South Carolina.
Monroe Dawkins is my Great Grandfather. My Grandfather was George Barth Dawkins (Sr.). George Barth Dawkins and Monroe Dawkins are both buried in Mt Vernon Presbyterian Church cemetery in Union, South Carolina. If you have any information about Monroe's parents or where he grew up, I would appreciate you sharing with me.
When I was growing up my Dad told me that the Dawkins came from Ireland. I know there were a lot of Dawkins in Newberry, Fairfield and Chester counties. At this time, I have no information to research further.
Thanks so much!

My late mother was the only child of Raymond Sivells' oldest brother, Samuel Marion Sivells.
Just curious, did Raymond go by a nickname instead of his real name?
I'm asking because it seemed like everyone else I knew of in the family did, and I hadn't known what had happened with Raymond.
Mom's father always went by "Jack", but her parents divorced when she was between 2 and 3 years old, and there was not that much further contact.
BTW, the trailing "s" on their surname tended to come and go. Jack added it consistently.

|Donna Brummett||Martha & Monroe Dawkins|
Adam, I finally got over to Mt. Vernon today and was lucky enough to find Martha and Monroe. As you can see from the photos Martha is well marked but Monroe was just a very good guess. I based my photo on the fact that the date was correct 1928 and the stone was right next to Martha. They were both just to the left of George Barth Dawkins, Sr. and Jr. I also believe the the date is Monroe's death date rather than is birth date. Enjoy. Merry Christmas. LATER DB

Thanks Adam, I have the hardest time deciding whether the letter C is a G or a C on tombstones. Got it right now. LATER DB

|Uriah||RE: Mt. Vernon Dawkins' memorials|
Are the Bailey folk buried at Mt. Vernon your kin? There are two Bailey clans in southern Union Co. My primary Bailey family resided in the Cross Keys, Sedalia area. You may have kin at Padgett's Creek and/or New Prospect Cemetery. Both clans are, as best I can determine, of a common blood. Did your your maternal G-mother live as a Bailey? I am kin to both families. I have the notes from Betty Greer's genealogical research. Betty was a Bailey and worked at Union Co. Courthouse and had copies of lots of wills and other legal docs. Glad to share any materials if you have interest.
I searched around your George Barth Dawkins' graves to no avail. Were they Barth of Bothwell. I thought the Barth name unusual.
Are you kin to the Judge Dawkins who owned the Dawkins House in Union. The house was the last capital of SC during the WBTS. It is being restored after much effort by local Historical Society.

Adam, I live about 5-10 minutes from Mt. Vernon Church/Cemetery. I went over today to see if I could find your requested memorials. The only Dawkins I was able to find were George Barth Dawkins (Sr. & Jr.). I took pic. of both stones and will post. I searched the cemetery for over 30 min. Martha's notation on Mt Vernon site says "wife of Monroe Dawkins", and list death in 1918. Notation for Monroe says born 1928. Could they be buried with field stones or perhaps stones damaged over years? I can make another run if you have any ideas.

Sorry about that. I've gotten a number of request and just picked up the wrong E-Mail. Just send it back to me if you don't mind. I have pictures of every grave in Rosemont and most of Bush River and a good many in Whitmire. I will be glad to add the photo for you if I have them. I'll get Lila Crosby to you ASAP. I looked at the names you gave and don't have the Bush River ones and prob. don't have the Whitmire ones unless I have been specifically asked for a mem. there. That is another large Cem. I can usually find a person that died before 1983 because I have the Cem. books that the Nby Historical Soc. did. If they were buried after that I have to really hunt for them. At any rate I will be happy to look for you. I have included the section that a grave site is located in at Rosemont. I dont have the plot # but you will at least be able to locate the section easily enough. Check out www.genealogytrails.com. Look under the Nby site at cememteries. There is map of Rosemont listed there which will identify the sections. It is a great site and has a lot of information.

Adam I may already have the photos and I will be happy to add them for you. Also I noticed that you have a request in a Mt. Vernon Church Cem. in Union Co. I looked to see if I had the photo you had requested but I don't seem to have it. I will take a ride up that way after Thanksgiving and see if I can spot it for you. In the meantime, I will transfer your relative to you and be happy to transfer the others as well if they are under my name. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving as well. LATER
