Preston Goforth in War of 1812
Hi Rachel,
I'm a descendant of Preston Goforth (1776-1854).
I see that there was a Preston Goforth who fought in the War of 1812 with the 7th NC Regiment. Is this the same man? I haven't been able to make the link. Thanks!

Hi Rachel,

Please note the death date for Craton Ledford is 1904 on his tombstone. His memorial states 1901. If you would, please correct.
Thanks from a 2rd GGDaughter, Patti

Lizzie Avant
Rachel
I may have mis-communicated what I was trying to say about Lizzie Avant. The information on her site is correct, but the death certificate posted on her site is the wrong one. It is for a Lizzie Avant who was single and was born in 1885 and died in 1948. Lizzie was the second wife of Richard B Avant. His first wife was Liza Melinda Goude. Liza was the mother of Charles King, Linwood, Henry Burdell, Jonah and maybe others. Lizzie was the mother of Richard D and others. Charles King Avant came to Stanly Co. NC to work on the Badin Power Plant. After Richard Avant died in 1919, Lizzie came to North Carolina to live with Charles in Cabarrus County and died there. Charles King Avant died in 1965 and is buried in Greenlawn cemetery in Rowan County, NC. Henry Burdell Avant died in 1962 and is buried at the National Cemetery in Rowan County, NC.
Lizzie's son, Richard D, died in 1965 and is buried in Georgetown where she is. You probably know all this and I apologize, but I am trying to straighten it out for myself.

Lizzie Avant
The dates on the headstone match the ones on the death certificate of Lizzie Avant who died in Cabarrus Co. NC. Is this area called Avants Cross Road? I am very curious about this.

Can you please remove that? It goes in the bio section of his memorial not Regina's. And it is noted in her biography about the widowed part.

Thank you.

Thomas Alexander Martin
Thank you for the transfer of Thomas Alexander Martin. You may be interested in a little history .
He died in an unusual way. He was riding his horse home in the dark. Either he was riding too fast or the horse was spooked. The horse arrived at home without a rider. When the family Found him; He was hanging in the fork of a tree,
He was just at the right height for a branch to catch him and knock him off the horse and leave him dangling in the air.

Hi Rachel,

I am so glad I was able to see a pic of Hal Reid Haynes. He is the father of my late husband and I never saw what he looked like. My husband, Rodney "Rocky" Haynes was 7 when his father died.

Richard Thomas Hord
The lineage of Richard Thomas Hord is in Sons of America. It is interesting. His parentage based on the sons of America goes back to him being in the Lineage of Thomas Jefferson.

Thomas Jefferson had Claiborne Howard with a slave with the last name Howard. ...... Down to Richard Thomas Hord.

Hope this helps.

Yeah I was able to follow all those links backand was wondering if the H in James may have also stood for Hugh, but no I don't have any of them in mine. Either. I have traced My HUgh's parents back to Elizabeth and Eli Haynes and have found him listed with Wilkerson Haynes as a brother, but other relatives tell me that Hugh was illegitimate and was raised by his mother's parents, the Hyaneses, so this would make Wilkerson his uncle instead of his brother and they say they have a will of Elizabeth's that Mentions Hugh as her grandson in what she leaves him. I don't know much about Hugh or his son Preston. My grandfather died in 1954, 11 years before I was born, so thats why I have been doing all this research. Maybe one day we will find our connection. Maybe James H is the connection. Thanks for your time.

Hey I was wondering if you were related to any of the Hayneses from Polk and Rutherfordton Counties around the Lake Lure and Mill Springs area. I ask because I noticed several Hugh Hayneses in your list. My great great grandfather was Hugh Haynes, though none of the ones you listed, but we know little about him like where he came from or where he is buried and thought maybe he or yours were named after the same Hugh. Mine had a son Preston and a daughter Katherine ( Rhodes)and married Tabitha NcClure. Thank You Kevin

RE: Kathleen S Dills
Hi Rachel. I have been working on Pisgah in Lincolnton trying to get the old section on Find A Grave. It is a slow process as some of the grave stones are badly deteriorated.
You say someone put Kathleen in the Gaston County Pisgah Church Cemetery, well that someone was you. Now that you know she is in the Pisgah Methodist Church Cemetery in Lincoln County, are you going to delete her from Gaston County? I would like to link her to her parents, but with her having two memorials, that will make her show twice on her parents memorials.
I'm sorry to hear you don't make it back to Lincoln County much anymore as I know there are many Haynes is the area. I do pray all is well with you.

Sue

Thomas Grayson MCKILLOP
Could anyone help me get a photo of Thomas Grayson McKillop's stone and a copy of his obituary?

I have been told by the director of cemetery this is a military stone but I can not find an application on line for the stone.

dates: 2/15/1893
death 12/7/1976

I am presently working on a Transylvania County, NC and WW I book. I have obtained all NC Service Record Cards from the Archives and have found this fellow is one of my subjects. I would like to include with his Service Record Card a brief bio of his life after the war, an obituary and a photo, preferably military, but will accept any photo. If you can help me with any of the information or give me a contact that may be able to help please contact me .

Thank you
