Mildred A DuPriest #105252180
Hello Georgia,

Please copy and paste the below obituary onto the biography on the memorial that you created for Mildred Abbitt DuPriest. Thanks, Wilkie

MILDRED E. DUPRIEST
Mildred Elizabeth DuPriest (nee Abbitt) of Petersburg, VA, died at the age of 96 on Thursday, January 15th, at the Petersburg Home for Ladies, where she was a 16-year resident. She was born in 1918 in Victoria, Va, the daughter of Joseph Hunter Abbitt, originally of Appomattox, VA, and Ruth Edgerton, originally from Afton, New York. In 1939 she married Travis Talmadge DuPriest of Crewe, Va.

A graduate of Madison College (now JMU), she taught science and chemistry at three high schools: Crewe, Petersburg, and Colonial Heights. Her hobbies included flower arranging for which she received many awards, oil painting, reading, saltwater fishing, and traveling with friends throughout the States and Europe. She was active at First Baptist Church of Petersburg, as well as with historic preservation and art organizations.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Travis Talmadge DuPriest, Sr.; her three brothers, Alfred, Raymond, and Joseph Abbitt; and her grandson Talmadge Abbitt DuPriest.

She is survived by her brother, John Alexander Abbitt and his wife Anne Bing Abbitt of Wilmington, Delaware; her two sons, Travis Talmadge DuPriest, Jr. and his wife Mabel Benson DuPriest of Racine, WI and Robert Edgerton DuPriest and his wife Barclay Farrar DuPriest of Ashland, Virginia; her grandchildren Rand MacLean DuPriest and his wife Melanie of Richmond and Travis Edgerton DuPriest and his wife Maria of Chicago, IL, and Benson Hunter DuPriest of Racine; her great-granddaughter, Sydney Abbitt DuPriest of Richmond; numerous nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews; appreciative students and loving friends.

A brief memorial service will be held for residents and local friends on Sunday, January 18 at 3 o'clock at the Petersburg Home for Ladies. A Graveside Rite will be held at the family plot in Crewe later this summer. Those who wish to make memorial donations may do so to the Fellowship Fund which Mildred help found of the Petersburg Home for Ladies or First Baptist Church of Petersburg.

Stultz graves, Crewe Cemetery, Nottoway Co, VA
You created several memorials for members of the William Davis Stultz family located in the Crewe Cemetery in Nottoway Co, Va. Those memorials note that no stones are present. Did the memorials come from hand-written cemetery records? If so, that may help to explain the difference in the names of the family members. Thanks for helping me solve this mystery!

Lula S. Keller
Hi, my name is Wanda Stewart. Andrew Putnam Keller is my great-great-grandfather. The Lula S. Keller buried in the Crewe cemetery is not his wife. She is his maiden sister. She never married and helped to raise Andrew's children and his daughter's, Bertha Augusta Keller Cook, children as well. My grandmother was Bertha' s daughter, Colon Adele Cook.

I believe that Andrew was married twice. I have a marriage certificate for his son, Jacie, listing his mother as Loula; and his granddaughter also named Loula as his wife. I had a distant cousin who was a contemporary of Andrew who researched the family for over 60 years and she said his wife was called Hannah Renniger.

I cannot find confirmation of who was Bertha' s mother.

I have been hunting my ancestors for going on 40 years.

I've not found his wife on Find-a-Grave but think her grave must be near his. Do you have any information? Thanks.

Alice Huff Akers
Hi Georgia,
I've been photographing Sycamore Baptist Church cemetery, and noticed on Alice Huff Akers (15736828) that you made a note that she was married to Isaac Murray Akers (15736829). He actually has a wife (a different one) linked on his page.

Just hoping for a little clarification. Take care!

RE: Crewe Cemetery, VA
I know nothing of the Tanner family. I am working on the Schaubach line. Benjamin's father, Martin, is a brother to Elizabeth Margaret married to James Ferree Foster. Elizabeth is my husband's great great grandmother.

Deborah Corn-George
Sarah "Sallie" L Corn
Hi Georgia,

Do you have any contact information about her descendants? I am her great grand niece Deborah Ann Corn. My great grandfather Martin Luther Corn was Sallie's brother.

I was wondering if you knew of a bible that someone has recorded her name and the name of her husband Rufus Monroe Woods and their 7 children. I would appreciate any information you might have or know about Sallie.

It appeared that her name had been lost in the family memory and I have found evidence in census records, and a marriage license. Her age at her marriage is conflict with her birth years. I was wondering if you thought it was reasonable that she possibly lied about her age. She was born in 1880 and married Rufus Woods in 1897 which would have made 17 years at the time.

I know she lived in Lawsonville and was buried in an unmarked grave in 1911 located off of Hart Rd. It's a very short walk on the left about 300 yards from the Tucker Headstone that sits on a hill. Proceed down the path into the trees on the right about 30 yards. The ground is covered in periwinkle with some cedar trees. There is a pile of stones that is fashioned into to burial site.

There is also a story that's been passed down to members of her husbands family. It's been said that there are two of Sallie's daughters that are buried near her at the same location. I believe they were both young and never married.

It would be wonderful if there was somebody out there who had a written record of their deaths since they probably died before official death records were kept.

Sincerely,
Deborah

Concerning John Newton Schaubach and Elvira Catherine Schaubach. I do not have a record of these folks, but I do have information on John Newton Tanner and Elvira Catherine Tanner, parents of Nannie Jane Tanner married to Benjamin F. Schaubach. Is the last name of Schaubach a typo, or have I been given the wrong information. Thanks for checking.

Georgia, Thanks for your extensive research for Find a Grave. I notice the family of Wise and Zelda is very complete. I was wondering is that just that you do very complete work or do you have connections with the family? I would like to get in contact with someone in their family. I am a great nephew via Zelda.

Lula Beck at Maplewood
Georgia, I received your request to have Lula Beck's middle name changed from Mae to just M. I originally had the memorial entered with just M. which was the way it appeared on the cemetery survey that I used to create the memorial in the first place. I received an edit request to change the middle initial to Mae and add the maiden name of Jackson, which I did. I don't want to keep bouncing back and forth over this. If you can provide me with proof of relationship, I will transfer this memorial to you and you may change it as you please. However, I am sorry to tell you that I am letting the middle name stand as it appears now.

Respectfully,
Vicki Bullard
