Thank you Dot for bringing this to my attention. I was not aware I had not included spouses. Perry was my brother. We had the same mother but different fathers.

Dot,

I want to thank you for putting my Dad's info on the site. You did not offend anyone at all. There was a misprint in the article years ago. Thank you so much for caring.

Ervin Ovid Kelley 107470001
On the Memorial 107470001 for Ervin Ovid Kelley the following is incorrect from her granddaughter Judith Kelley Buel McElfresh.

"Ovid is the son of Roy Guy Kelley and Bessie R. Higginbotham, both born in Texas"

Bessie P Kelley maiden name was Smith. Judith is not sure why you have the name Higginbotham
Can you correct?
Thanks
I am a cousin to Judith.

There is a marker for him at Forest Hill Cemetery in Dunmore right next to Lulu...I think you have him in the wrong cemetery.

Hi Dot,

I have transferred the Mary Lindsey and Jennet Sankey memorials to you. I hated to give up Mary because her stone was one of the first stone photos I had ever taken. I have over sixty "relatives" in that cemetery and her stone is on the corner where I entered the cemetery. I am a descendent of her husband's sister, Rebecca Lindsey Andrews.

RE: John S Churchill
Wow! You are good! I didn't think to try the BYU index, since it doesn't pick up western Oregon . . . (bad assumption).

Thrasher appears to be the correct spelling for Ellen -- her parents had a DLC in Douglas county about the time that she and John were married, although they were all over the state. I found a mention of her father's death, (Willamette Farmer, Portland, Oregon, Oct. 29, 1880, Page 4, Column 5)
"Thomas Thrasher, an old citizen of Linn county, recently died in Umatilla county." In 1850 they were at Portland, spelled "Thrashers". I have been browsing through the marriage record images for Douglas county that were recently posted at FamilySearch and so far I have not been able to find the actual recording of the marriage. If it is there, it is out of chronological sequence.

Thanks again!

RE: John S Churchill
Dot,

Thank you for your assistance. The John S. Churchill that you pointed out is a first cousin once removed (I think) of the man I am seeking. "Your" John S. is the grandson of John A. Churchill, who did not come to Oregon. The John S. that I am seeking is the son of John A.'s brother Alvah. Two other brothers of John A. & Alvah also came to Oregon -- Willoughby and Lewis. They all had large families and all used similar names for their kids. And they all seem to have been in the Coles Valley area for a while, before spreading out all over the west coast. So it is a real challenge sorting them all out!

The man I am trying to find is listed in the Early Oregonian Search as # 31123, born 1832 - 1833 in Lawrence Co., Indiana. He married Ellen J. Thrasher in Umpqua County on July 22, 1854; she apparently died prior to the 1860 census, since John's two sons (Alvah & Thomas) are living with John's mother Bernetta ("Betsy"), who is listed as "Churchwell". In 1870 those two boys are living with John & his new wife Catherine. From the 1900 Census, I have calculated that John & Catherine were married about 1862, although I have not found a marriage record for them.

Thank you for the information on the Archives. I have connected with a very helpful lady who lives in Salem & works near the archives. She will "fetch" any DC's that I need and either scan them or mail me copies as needed. Unfortunately, since we haven't yet pinned down John's death, we are somewhat adrift in terms of obtaining any documentation.

Please keep me posted if you happen across any more information on this family. Thanks again, and have a wonderful week!

Lucinda (Hill) Rubell
I noticed that you had added an obit for Lucinda's memorial; there is a much more extensive obit in a later issue of the paper: http://oregonnews.uoregon.edu/lccn/sn84022679/1905-04-17/ed-1/seq-2

I came across her obit while searching for death & burial information on John S. Churchill, son of Alvah & Bernetta Churchill who are buried at Coles Valley and husband of Catherine "Kate" Churchill who is buried at Cedar Hill (Oakland). John kinda disappears from the census & newspapers sometime shortly after his wife's death -- I think 1902 was the last mention that I found. Kate's obit mentions two stepsons; I believe they were Thomas F Churchill (# 47679291) and Alvah (not yet located). I believe their mother was Ellen J. Thrasher (also not located).

Would you happen to know where else to look for John? He does not show up in the death indexes for Oregon, Washington, or California. My guess is that he most likely died before these states started enforcing death certificate requirements (1902 - ~1906). Any pointers that you might have would be greatly appreciated.
