Thank you so much for the photos!
I read on your contributor page that you do not want your photos used. I am unclear if that is an absolute (which I certainly will respect) or if you sometimes grant permission. Therefore I thought I would ask. May I have your permission to use these 2 photos on my ancestry.com family tree? I would be pleased to give you credit.
Regards

Lillie Holland
Candie,

Thank you for the correction to Lillie's memorial. I have updated it. The info that "Cora Harshberger" was the mother came from the death certificate. I guess Hobart gave his own mother's name when asked, instead of the mother of the child.

verse transcription
Hey Candie - While conversing with you, couldn't help but notice the question about a vintage verse (or poem).

I'm a bit of a poet & also OLD (ha), that I sometimes recognize old prose.

I believe the word even is intended - my rational is that it is the same expression as "eventide", which means evening.

Also, even more closely rhymes with "heaven" and the cadence is better than the 3 syllables in "evening".

Cheers~ Shirleen

RE: Ross Cemetery
Thanks - I am looking for Agnes Vernatte Bowen, buried 24 March 1946 (died the 21st); daughter of William Vernatte and Ellen Ross. I suspect her parents; and possibly, her husband, Carl, are there also. He probably remarried, as she was 29, him, 32.

Any help appreciated...all I have is "Ross Cemetery, Salt Rock, W. VA."
Cheers~ Shirleen

Bowman Cemetery???
Is there an old cemetery documented located on Bowman Hill Road, left off 8th Street: On the right side of the road at top of hill; black iron staircase leads up side of hill to cemetery. Not marked or tended. A fellow took his dad to Huntington in the early 1990's to visit where family had lived and were buried. He listed the headstones they could read in a doc. I am particularly interested in the McComas children who each died in infancy and share a fading headstone (that was in 1990's) Here are the names he listed:
1. Jeremiah (3/10/1852 5/20/1906) and Mattie Sullivan Barbour (1/8/1855 2/20/1941) ***these are gandparents of the McComas children--Edith's parents***
2. The McComas babies: Pearl Etta, C.J, Nell, and M[?]_y_rey (stone was worn this is most probably Aubrey). ***I have birth and death dates for the children of Earnest Bing McComas and Edith Mae Barbour McComas)
3. Martha Riffle and John Simmons (C.G.s parents); there were no years on the stones.
4. William and Lizzie Snodgrass were there too likely the parents of Blanche Snodgrass Barbour, wife of Ira J Barbour.

Thank you for your time, Nina

It looks like many of the Overtons are buried along with Charles. Am looking for his mother Lina Matthews Overton, his father Stephniy and his mother H. Overton. If you send your outside email I can give you access to my family tree.

I didn't know any of this side of my family so I am eager to learn as much as possible about them.

I don't know what is going on- I do know he has a marker in Ridgelawn - if you want to move him to Ridgelawn I will delete my memorial and add photo to your memorial. I don't show his wife having a marker at Ridgelawn next to Ersle.

John McComas
Candie, there was a John McComas born in 1936 in the McComas Cemetery earlier that I had mistakenly linked to George Clymer McComas. I was wondering why his memorial was deleted. Could he be a son of John and Lucinda also?
Did Mildred Yates have any info on him? Thanks, You and your sister have been tremendous helps in linking our families and keeping everyone in the right cemetery. LOL I really appreciate you and Robin! Nina McComas Thomas

I requested additions of links to his parents on the duplicate memorial. I know Ric Blake is now deceased, but maybe his wife took over his memorials. If I don't hear back within a couple of weeks, I'll send the request to Find A Grave.

I deleted my duplicate, erroneous memorial.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Douglas Stevens
Very confusing. Douglas' death record shows his mother's maiden name as Smith. There is a marriage record for Jeffery Kent Stevens and Leanor Ann Smith married in 1951. Douglas was born in 1953.

RE: Thelma Ayers
Hi Candie. I'm sorry I took a little while to get back to you. I was contacting 2 other relatives to try to find the information you wanted about who was the man named Ayers that my aunt Thelma was married to. Unfortunately there's no one still living that knows his first name or has any information about him. I even tried looking through some of my other relatives trees on Ancestry.com but I couldn't find anything. Thelma was my aunt and I believe Mr. Ayers was her 3rd husband. Her maiden name was Legg then she was married to a Lawhon and then a Jordan. Her parents, Philip and Artie Ullom Legg and two of her sisters and two or three of her brothers are buried in Culloden Cemetery in Culloden, WV. There is a Nina Legg who lives in Charleston, WV and I believe she may have been my uncle Jack Legg's wife. I don't know anything about her but one of my cousins told me they think that's where she lives now and she may know about Mr. Ayers.
I hope this helps you some. If I come across any additional information I'll pass it on to you through this site.

Sorry, should have mentioned this in the other reply. What was the death record you found for Charley Shank? I have been searching for even a death certificate for him and have been unable to locate it (I have not been able to come to Huntington and actually search at the court house yet.) Thank you again.

location of M. Merritt Cemetery
I have recently uncovered the fact that my great grandfather (Charles Spurgeon Shank "Charley") is buried in the M. Merritt Cemetery. I would like to visit this grave, but cannot seem to fine directions to the cemetery. I have learned that the M Merritt Cemetery is a small, family cemetery (no idea how my great grandfather ended up there). Could someone give me directions to this cemetery?
