Sorry I was late..............too many oars in the water. It has been nice here and I traded my computer time for my kayak. She needed some exercise!

RE: Lucius Hughes
I am always up late and if I get caught up in a mystery then I work it through - good thing I am wide awake...:))

I was looking at some of Lucian's siblings and I love how you did their memorials. I think you're doing a nice thing and that's awesome that you replaced that headstone.

First thing I noticed about your 2nd great grandfather is when he was born. I come from a family where there are huge gaps between the generations, so my great grandfather was born in 1829, before your 2nd great grandfather...LOL.

This has been interesting - I will have to look at that photo album link tomorrow. I just love your photos - I don't have any family photos at all so I'm a bit jealous.

RE: Martha Jane Lord
Do you mean merge Martha with M.J.? If so, then no, you can just delete M.J.'s memorial because I already moved my photos. You just need to change Martha's last name.

Hope that makes sense.

RE: Family Album
There are several different sources for this info, including Ancestry, Family Search, and a local website someone does called Thursday Night Hikes, which covers a lot of historical info of Saint Paul and the area.

What is even funnier is that had I just looked at the 1910 census, I would have seen that Martha was living with Lucius and Rosa, and that her last name was Allen. Instead, I took the long way to arrive at the same conclusion...LOL.

Here is the blurb about Lillian:

764 Lincoln Avenue: L. A. Hughes House; Built in 1907 (1902 according to Ramsey County property tax records;) Georgian Revival in style. The structure is a two story, 3562 square foot, 12 room, seven bedroom, two bathroom, two half-bathroom, frame house, with a detached garage. This structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the historic Hill District. Oakland Cemetery Association records indicate that Rosa Hughes resided at this address in 1908. Oakland Cemetery Association records indicate that Lillian Hughes Keiter (1883-1908,) the wife of Walter B. Keiter, who was born in St. Paul to parents born in the United States and who died of heart failure, resided at this address in 1908.

James Allen died during the time period of 1900 - 1910, since Martha is a widow in 1910. I have not found his death record and have no idea where he is buried.

I am going to put my photos for M.J. Allen on Martha Braley's memorial and you can delete the M. J. Allen memorial. I assume you will also fix Martha's name so that it shows she was an Allen, otherwise someone might think I am nuts posting that photo on her memorial...LOL.

If you need any death cert info on any of these folks, let me know - I can look up the info for you at the History Center.

And I'm glad you now know who the Allens really are. How are you related to Lucius?

Added by Christina on Jun 03, 2014 12:38 AM

M.J. Allen
I researched connections between the Allens and Hughes, and after reaching a dead end I decided to cross reference the Allens and Braleys.

It turns out that Mr. and Mrs. Allen (in the photo) are actually Rosa's mother and her second husband. There is a marriage for Martha J. Braley and James L. Allen on November 11, 1888 in Saint Paul. I looked them up in the 1900 census and Martha is shown as being born in 1835 in Maine.

Based on this, I pulled the death info for Martha Allen in 1919, and it says her father was William Lord.

So, Rosa's mother is buried next to Lillian. It's interesting that whomever wrote the photo referred to them as they did. I am a bit curious as to why they used initials and did not bother to put dates.

Also, that's a really cool historical photo of Indian Mounds Park.

RE: Lucius Hughes
Hi Mike:

I knew she married a Keiter, but I wanted to mention her name because you have her listed with the maiden and last name of Hughes...

I found some info on their home at 746 Lincoln Avenue (which still looks wonderful), and it mentions that Lillian died of heart failure.

I absolutely love the photos you have on their memorials.

RE: Lucius Hughes
Hi Mike:

I added a few pics to the memorials of Lucius, Rosa and Lillian. Lillian's last name on the stone is Keiter.

Also buried to the left of Lillian is M.J. Allen (is this Martha?), who does not have a memorial. I will make one for them and add photos, and then transfer it to you so that you can update it with more info.

RE: Thank You Mike
Not sure if I answered your question about James Perley Hughes' wife. Her name was Julia Mae.

Photo request for Oakland Cemetery
I would be glad to fulfill your photo request for Oakland Cemetery, however it would be helpful if you could contact them and get the plot location for Lucius Hughes and update the memorial. Because there are so many requests for this cemetery, I cannot obtain all of them. They are very helpful, and if you cannot call long distance, you can email Bob for the info.
