Everett Chance

I didn't realize it til recently, but a friend who was filling in for me accidentally transferred his memorial to you. Please transfer it back, and you mentioned merging it with the correct memorial. Can you please send the link to that to? Thanks so much! :)

Everett Chance

I submitted an SAC to you about Everett, no answer so far. Are you related to him? Also, I found out he is buried in a different cemetery, from a volunteer who tried to take a photo of his grave site. Do you know where he is buried?

Please respond via an SAC through any memorial that I manage.

Photo Permission
Hello. I am a writer for the Family Search Organization in the Public Relations Department. I am currently writing an article that involves a person who found his ancestors using photos of graves found on Find a Grave found at the links below. We would like to use these photos in our upcoming article.

I would like to obtain your permission and can send you a document entitled "Creative Works" that we are required to have filled out on our end in order to use images in our stories.

Could you provide me with an email address so we could discuss further?

Any information you could offer would be of great help.

Thank you for your time.

Livi Whitaker.

Moses Grunauer Hebrew Headstone translation
`Here lies my dear father Rabbi Moshe
Son of Rabbi L. Baruch Efter.
May he rest in peace.`

And that is a first translation (done by an Israeli).

Also, Diane, since my view of the Hebrew side of the Bertha Grunauer is pretty complete, there is no need to you to go to the cemetery again just for it.

When the Bertha Headstone Hebrew is also translated, it will also be provided to you in the same manner.

Thanks so much for both the graveyard work, and for the rapidity of your replies. Very kind and very helpful.

RE: Bertha Grunauer headstone.
HI Diana. I just used your set of photos for both Grunauer and Fabian to solve the headstone puzzle.

The short version is: if you look to the left of the Fabian headstone, you see a Hebrew text on the back of a Grunauer stone. That text is different that the obvious one (at Bertha Grunauer).

Ergo, that text is on the reverse of Bertha`s. And the other is Moses` Hey! I felt like Sherlock Holmes when I solved it.

I have now sent that text to my Hebrew `scholar` for translation again.

In a second note I will provide you the Moses` translation. Would you be so kind as to insert it with Moses Grunauer`s information. This by the way is a genealogical breakthrough, which is going to have wide-ranging impact in the Grunauer community.

Also doing this work with your photos has allowed me to answer my initial question: " Is Philip Fabian a `Grunauer?` The answer is `Yes, he is Bertha`s son."

RE: Bertha Grunauer headstone.
This would be great! Moses was buried in 1898. And we would love to know that the Hebrew text is from his.

Also, if I may request, might there be a Hebrew inscription on Bertha's? There is a large handful of cousins who would dearly love to know who her father was.

BTW, I am a researcher involved with the very large South American dynasty of Grunauers. To whom I believe Moses is related back in West Prussia.

Thanks so much. This is great help.

Bertha Grunauer headstone.
Hi. I am new to posting such a query.

You were so kind as to post information about the burial of Bertha Grunauer (Levinsky) who was buried in 1893 in California.

Two images were posted. Are they two different sides? Or two different stones?

I presumed that they were two opposite sides of the same headstone. However, when I had the Hebrew words translated, they were about a male: Moishe son of Baruch ...

In your notes you state that in the family site are also stones for Louis, Moses, Jenny. All of whom are Grunauers.

If it is the situation of one stone, in that period, would an older stone be re-engraved upon the more recent death? I am very ignorant of customs in California in that era. Thanks in advance, Ms. Reich.

Charles S. Lyon
Hi Diane -- thanks very much for taking the photo of the grave of Charles S. Lyon (Find A Grave Memorial# 8737012). I wonder if you could check again the death date on the stone as you transcribed June 22, 1850, and there was a great fire in San Francisco on June 22, 1851 ( I am a librarian cataloging something related to Charles Lyon's death and believe it to be 1851 based on my document. He was the brother of Robert Lyon of New York, the founder of the first English-language Jewish paper published in the U.S. (in New York).

Hi Dianne, yes, it is correct. The tombstone is not for Jennie, but Pincus the husband of Jennie - please look at your photo closely. I also matched that info with the JewishGen. The updates are in your automatic edit section. Thank you.
